- What makes a film an 'Ealing' film? Why should we cry at 'Mandy'? What has 'The Man in the White Suit' got to do with the atomic bomb? And what might Ealing films teach us about the world today? In this short video find out why Ealing Studios are so important in the history of filmmaking with broadcaster Matthew Sweet and BFI curator Mark Duguid.

What a loving docu of this magical era. Superb. Man in the White Suit remains one of my all-time favorites.
If you go there now, you'd never imagine the fields, cottages, forests, etc. that were there at the time this studio was making movies. It's nearly impossible to imagine.
My late wonderful and favourite uncle - Uncle Harry- Harry Kraatz was Assistant Director on Whisky Galore and The Blue Lamp. Dearest Harry we send you all our love. Neil xxxx
Whisky Galore. An old favorite.
I grew up on these films! They were staples on PBS in the '70s and early '80's
My Dad used to work in a factory next door to the Ealing Studios called Daley's. They dealt in Transistors in the 60's before moving the whole company to Weymouth in the 70's
My teacher at Cal Arts was Alexander Mackendrick.
A very interesting video! Well done, informative ... and I like the extracts chosen !
We really need an updated film about the studios, especially because this is the 120th anniversary
Michael Balcon was Daniel Day-Lewis's grandfather.
Fantastic - Matthew Sweet is great as always
I can remember the sound effect from the lab in the Man in the White Suit film making it onto radio and making the charts.
was just thinking it'd make a great sample!
@@MayaJagger great idea! it's overdue a re-release. If Popcorn can make it to the charts also, that sound effect track can can also make it
great piece..gotta love ealing.
Thank you!
Excellent....well done
This is my second favorite to 'Making a Compost Heap (1941)'.
brilliant
Fragile Film producers Barnaby Thompson and Uri Fruchtmann (Annie Lennox's ex-husband) purchased Ealing Studio's late 90's
So uh.
What's to become of the indie film industry now?
I pass this place often. Shame it is not the same
ooh lets
I went to school at met film school inside the ealing studios
What are you up to now?
@@nathanking9630 lol
I’m going there in April for part time writing course can’t wait
@@heronbird81 you'll love it !
Its so difficult to get these movies on Netflix, Prime, etc... I've really fallen in love with the classics as the modern film industry is producing cold, political messaging, virtue signalling forgettable pictures that are as deposable as bubble gum. Anyone able to recommend streaming services in the UK for these movies?
