There were more herrings caught in the previous video than this time. But the average size of the herrings is bigger this time. Thank you for your great video, and looking forward to the incoming one, the halibut fishing!
Here is a small tip for the tip jar for a music/tune request... From the episode entitled, " Setting Some Gear-Fall Halibut Season... It begins at 49:47... Y'all are all on the back of the Fishtale. Love you EIS Family... Tip incoming. Lol
The amazing content, fishery variety, family interactions and involvement. Love T and Mom. The drone footage, watching Dad's mind bring creations, Matt's hands. All of that is the body. The insides. The makeup. The skin is the moments when y'all anchor the camera in a cool spot and show us the beans 'n soup while playing neat tunes. My favorite moments. Hope y'all keep doing that. Y'all already do so much and we really appreciate it.
I bet it’s a better investment and do it yourself to catch your own bait!! Better yet… we get to go along with you 😊thank you guys for all you do and love your fish… we can’t wait, every time is another adventure!
Thanks a bunch, Jj! It's honestly such a privilege to bring y'all content. We're always so happy to read the great comments and feedback. I looked up the tune, we'll try to get it into the next video for sure! Have a great day!
The Emerald Isle house is a bit narrow kickstart it to the width of the boat. I've been watching four or five videos daily recently. Just seen where yall had a Kickstart campaign with an incredible result. People can see your familys humility, and hard working honest people. Choosing to help is a easy decision knowing it's direct from the fishermen. Don't know if yall mentioned the stability test results be interested in knowing.
That's what I normally do for the hearing I use for fishing and then also when I catch salmon the carcasses I stick them in salt and that usually makes it kind of leather top product and sometimes you can use the stuff over and over again and especially with herring it makes it a lot tougher for the hook to come out but that's nice looking caring anyway a little bit bigger you could use it for making marinated herring I like to really big ones they're easier to clean
Looks like about the same amount of production on the 3 hour soak as on the half hour soak? That get you enough bait or have to purchase some as well? That's a gorgeous vessel at the beginning of the harbor. It's got my name on it! LOL That F/V after the Hawk sailboat, looks like it's got wave walls all around the stern, looks like they probably have an on vessel processing station perhaps?
So glad to see you guys back on the water. Hope you caught enough hearing for your baiting needs.Matt, did you retire your yellow rain gear top? God bless. Louie Louie.
Nice little bait making session. Could you guys do the herring row fishery or is it in a different location? Love the guitar 🎸 riff on the net picking. Can’t wait to see the new boat fish!
When you have time to talk it makes Kodiak seem more real. We know when you are seriously fishing gabbing takes a back seat, but it is what separates you from others. Plus no unnessary foul talk, thank you:
Absolutely! You're right about that, we get into "fishing mode" and sometimes just forget the camera is rolling, lol. But I do enjoy sharing Kodiak, we'll definitely get out and about more once we have time for it.
Looks like some of those boats in dog bay haven't moved in quite a while, and some need repairs as much as the docks. I also noticed when I was in Kodiak jigging, a lot of the boats have sienning equipment on them. Are there that many guys still sienning in that area? Looks like you need more bait.😊 I hope I spelled sienning correctly.😮
Yeah, always a bit sad to see boats in that state. Seining is going on as we speak. There are quite a few guys that aren't going this year, however. Price is low, and "even" years ('22, '24, etc.) are lower run count for pink salmon which accounts for quite a large portion of the profit for most seine operations.
@@EISAlaska on a side note, when I was in Alaska as a deck hand I needed a fishing license for a commercial fishery there. Back then it was $20 what would a fisher person (politically correct) 😂 LOL have to pay now?
Probably a couple hours of time invested, fuel wasn't much more than a few gallons over 3 picks. But even if it's pretty break-even, its really fun, and we love bringing the different content to you guys. We ended up with about #150 for 3 different hauls, not the best netting around town. But we'll certainly take the net along on our trips and drop it in on better looking schools.
Herring from the plant is 95 cents a pound plus sales tax (7%). Plus time to run over in the boat and wait around while they pull it from the freezer. So all said we came out ahead.
We'll certainly save some for eating once we get a bit father away from town. Pickling is also on the list! Maybe we'll do a CCC (catch clean & cook!).
True, Bad Horsie would be handy in this case. It would be just a quick zip over as well. She's parked at home on the trailer though, and the truck is having some issues.
Thank you. We try not to add music under most circumstances, usually only timelapse or times when the audio is unusable due to windy conditions or copyrighted music in the background.
We caught these right outside of the harbor. I would not feel comfortable eating these. We will get some further away from town and pickle some up. Think we will do a light smoke and can some too!
@@EISAlaska thanks for your reply. I forgot that the harbour and surrounding waters must be polluted given the maritime traffic. Thanks also for your detailed explanation of the fishing industry
Getting ready for halibut. Can't wait. I'm catching up on the videos.

Boy, would ya look at that gorgeous boat y'all pulled up next to there?!?!
I miss the smell of the bait box on my old lobster boat in the middle of the summer.
When I go out fishing,i generally catch my own bait for kingfish and snapper. fresh and free

Louie.
We'll need quite a bit more, yet, but this gets us started at least! Nothing beats nice fresh bait.

Have you seen the video of the whale following the bait ball up and hitting and capsizing the boat on the northeast coast?
I just saw it. That's crazy! Glad everyone was ok.
@@EISAlaska So lucky there were so many boats around close enough to help!
What do you estimate the cost of the bait you caught as opposed to buying? Everything comes with a price fuel, time etc.

Oh yes! Rollmops with sweet pickled onions. Delicious.

A catch, clean and cook would be a lot of fun.
Pulling up that net would have been best done with your small small boat with the outboard.
True, Bad Horsie would be handy in this case. It would be just a quick zip over as well. She's parked at home on the trailer though, and the truck is having some issues.
A not the rolling not is good and fast for that lol
what size mesh do you guys use for herring?
Did you have some for your supper
Nah, we didn’t likely the proximity to the harbor for this school. Once we get out away from town, we’ll have to cook some up.
How many Herring do you think you’ll use for the fishing season?
Likely 1500-2000 pounds. It really depends on the catch rate and hopefully that is on the high end.
😅
Hey guys, your videos are very good. Please don’t add music to it. Thanks.

A shame to use them for bait. Keep them for eating and buy bait 😂
