I just started baking and selling cookies in December. My husband bought me this same heat sealer and this is a great video for reference. I've been loving your videos and blog, the information provided is so amazingly helpful.
Your packing looks great. In Thailand we get street food, hot soup etc, in PE plastic bags, they have no visible seems, but are still extremely strong and heat resistant, you can boil water in them and they still hold (my own test). If you use a higher setting on your sealer, you get the no seem seal, it is super strong, even when the seem is hairline thin. I use them in a vacuum machine for ready made foods.
Thank you for posting this informative video. Right now I use curly ribbon to secure my cookies in the bag but I think that I am going to invest in a heat sealer.
You can remove the flap when your heat ceiling by pulling on it when it’s still hot after it seals. The numbers are not for level numbers are for length of time.
Thank you for sharing! Great reminder that the sealer strips, etc. do burn out and needs replacing every now and again. I also love your bags because they’re so sturdy compared to the ones I randomly got off Amazon.
This is from your page: It’s usually safe to put heat sealed cookies directly into the freezer, but unless if they have a box outside of them, I prefer to add another layer of protection but putting them in gallon freezer bags and setting in the freezer.
Your video was a nice watch. Thank you. My gf and I are looking to improve packaging for bath bombs. My first thought was a wider sealer, more like what is on the bottom of your clearbags already. Have you seen a reasonably affordable one that provides a wider seal? Or, other thoughts were towards some form of shrink wrap - heat, not vacuum. I'm searching, was just wondering if someone could make the search easier with product(s) they do (or don't) trust.
Question on checking that the seal is good....you make sure there is no air in the bag before sealing - so once it's sealed and you push down to make sure air doesn't come out - how do you know because you made sure there was no air in the bag before you sealed? I'm really trying to check my seal because my cookies don't seem to stay fresh in the bag long enough.
airtight does not mean air-less. By pushing, we're testing that air isn't going out, which is the only way to check if air is also coming in, because if there's a hole, air flows both ways. If your cookies don't stay as fresh for as long, you can try by underbaking a tad or changing up your ratios a bit ;)
Hello! What is the bag topper template called on Canva? I don't know what to call it and I can't find it. I searched stuff like "candy bag topper" and "baked goods bag topper". Thank you!
@@BorderlandsBakery It must’ve been taken off because when I search “bag topper” on Canva there’s no results found. I see them on Etsy, but I want to make them myself. Thank you for the video and reply though!
As long as both are airtight, it's up to you what you use. It depends on the purpose of what you're heat sealing for. Many people in my audience sell decorated sugar cookies and this is how I would want to give it to someone, not in tupperware. If you don't need to heat seal something for sale, gifting, and a tupperware can be used, great!
@@Eanwe Do the "press test" to see if its airtight. My goal is an airtight seal. If you're using the "folder over" type of self sealing bags, that's not airtight.

It depends on your recipe, how you bake them and how long it takes for you to ice them, which all matter when it comes to how long they stay "good" according to what they are "supposed" to be based on how you like them. About 2 weeks is safe, usually. But only way to be sure is to do a test yourself.

I just started making cookies, and tried bagging my first set of cookies and after having it in the bag for 5 min they ended up sticking. How long should I have the cookies dry before individually wrapping?
I don't know the degrees. but the settings are numbered and you have to play with the correct temp that will work with your bags. No one can tell you exactly because there is so much variance between temp settings and whatever bag you're using.

Thanks for the info on the times! I don’t prefer this method because it sometimes leaves sneaky airholes after the flap detaches.
I think the extra flap on the bottom looks nice. Thank you for making this! It was helpful.
I have been heat sealing my bags for years but I just learned some wonderful new tips--thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It depends on your recipe and climate. You might have to do a few tests. For my very dry climate, I wait at least 24 hrs.
