Floret Farm Tour: Hydrangeas

  • I wanted to share this little tour of my favorite hydrangeas growing here on the farm. We primarily grow the Peegee types and I love them because they are incredibly easy to grow, bloom abundantly on new wood (so you can’t prune them wrong!), and are very hardy, so even if you have cold winters they will reliably bloom the next season.
My favorite varieties are pretty much all ‪@ProvenWinnersRUclips‬ introductions and include Bobo, Fire Light, Limelight, Little Lamb, Pinky Winky, Quick Fire, and Mega Mindy.

Awesome video. One small piece of advice... The audio volume changes rapidly depending on where Erin is relative to the camera, so i feel like I'm constantly adjusting the volume. I'd suggest getting a lapel mic or using a compressor on the audio to even out the volume.

Thanks for showing each plant, and then each flower head for comparison! So helpful when deciding which to grow ❤.

Hydrangea are magnificent. The way they evolve, and change is magical.

I just LOVE LOVE your channel! Your husband's filming! Wow! Your farm is just so beautiful! I learn every time I watch. I get so excited when I see you all have posted. I've bought both your books! By the way, proven winners recommend planting perennials now in the fall. And you can get all those online on sale now! I'm a PW girl all the way! Lol

Loving First Editions plants even more than Proven Winners myself. I have a Berry White planted in my yard that is attracting more attention than any Proven Winners.

Best video on basics of hydrangeas I have seen, and I have seen many…
I love hydrangeas as well and have learned a lot from trial and error. Thank you!

This video turned my knowledge of hydrangeas on its head. Limelight and pinky winky known as peegee and the Bobo so large and intense like firelight 😮 I thought they were all panicle hydrangea hydrangeas

Fun fact: maga mindy is a superhero from Belgium. She always wears a pink cape so i gues thats the reason why its called mega mindy.

Beautiful! love Panicle Hydrangeas, and have 5 or so varieties in my new garden. I´ll definitely add more varieties, and hopefully I´ll be able to grow a few hundred plants in the future! 🙂

This was so helpful and I really appreciate the comparison. I pruned a few wonky branches from a pee gee hydrangea that I planted last fall and I’m relieved to know that it’ll okay 😅 it’s so beautiful!

Love seeing you feature hydrangeas! Any plans to add more to your garden and do a comprehensive comparison a la what you've shared recently re: crabapples? Would love to hear your take on other varieties of panicles and especially oakleaf. PS Highly recommend snagging a few Vanilla Strawberry/Strawberry Sundae at Christiansons next Spring. I bought one on a whim and it put out a dozen flowers its first year and has settled in beautifully. 🙂

Those Little Lamb hydrangeas are stunning! I'm seeing Proven Winners has discontinued offering them. Do you know if there are still some available in the market or have they been replaced by newer genetics and naming? This video was very helpful and made more so by the visualization you offered at the end of the video with the side by side comparison.

LOVE these short little videos you’ve been making for RUclips. The hydrangeas are gorgeous. I went looking for little lamb, but looks like it’s been discontinued by PW. :(

Hi, @gdem1627! We’ve planted all different sizes of hydrangeas here at the farm, but most were in 2-3 gallon pots.

Too funny...."there's a company by the name of Proven Winners." I mean who doesn't know about Proven Winners? As soon as you mentioned some of their names, I knew they were Proven Winners. Great explanation though. Thank you.
