Unboxing: Sig Sauer SP2022 - The pistol that almost got the CEO of Sig Sauer sent to prison

- In this unboxing video I show off a new gun to my collection. It is a Sig SP2022. This is not a very popular pistol in the US and one that I have negatively reviewed in the past. I simply wanted one and I thought this gun has a unique history.

I love my SP2022. For years the top of my full size polymer pistol bucket list was an H&K USP. That was until I came across a friend with an SP2022. And it was everything I loved about my P226 and P229 with a little lightness added. So after some searching I found one and picked it up. And to this day it's still my favorite full size polymer frame handgun. Granted I haven't tried any of the latest Glock clones, Canik MATE's, M&P's, etc. etc. but it's going to be difficult to de-throne my SP2022.
Yep. You get a nice balance of a modern polymer pistol with the mechanics of a classic one.
Had a 2022, a 2340 and 229 and they are just high quality guns in every way@@thetexasgunvault Sig, Beretta and H&K are the way to go for top quality, then S&W, FN, Glock, Walther and Ruger.
@thetexasgunvault I just bought one today, it was on clearance at mills fleet farm, 499.00 100+ dollars off! Can't wait.
You could try Beretta PX4 rotating barrel
@@yenihesap4090i am..eventually. & not because of the push from the Langdon crew. I have liked those guns since I first saw them. For a automatic pistol,it’s got more of a rounded off shape .& that makes a lot of difference in a M/H OWB strong side holster under a normal t shirt or whatever. If anyone is paying attention, looks like just another lumpy body bulge.Same with round but revolvers. Looking forward to trying the rotation out too. Not buying right now,but after November comes & goes, I will probably start shopping. Like the big ol GP X Caliber too. On the fence about which one to get. Probably going with the Mk 12. Like the fluted bull barrel and all. Don’t shoot competitions & planing on putting that big sucka in one of those Falco Roto shoulder holsters. Be a camping & around the house gun with a big light /laser probably. Enjoy your Beretta.
Don't buy it! The biggest mistake I've ever made was purchasing this handgun. It was my first Sig Sauer firearm. Now I own seven of them and still in love with my SP2022. You've been warned!
Sigs will do that too you! LOL
Me too, brother. Me too. Addiction!
I fell victim the EXACT same way.
*queue "In The Arms of An Angel"*
Hahah me too. My first pistol was one of these in .40 S&W in 2009. I have a few Sigs now.
I love this gun. So underrated. Thank you for the video.
You are very welcome!
I was planning on buying one... I am safe to buy this one or a P226?
I am a `1911`` guy and just got one of these Sigs in 9m/m. What a fun gun to shoot. Ammo is plentiful love my 1911 but am growing fond of thia 2022.
I think it is fundamentally a nice pistol.
SP2022 9mm
My daily carry for 4 years now.
Critical Duty ammo. Underrated Sig pistol.
Great ergos.. Factory night sights.
Yes it is very underrated.
What holster are you using for CCW?
It’s the gun Jason Borne keeps in his Swiss bank vault box in the first Borne Identity movie.
Yes it is and that is cool too!
Ahhh, now I have to watch it again...
Jesus Christ now I really do have to watch that movie again thanks butthole lol 😂
Best gun you can buy for under $400.00!
Picked mine up unfired for 325 bucks…
I have others as well 210, 226,228 etc. but any person who is into Sig will understand.
To me this is one of Sigs best kept secrets
I agree! It is a great value!
Put pressure on the opposite side of the take down pin and rack the slide. Fast a.d efficient
Thanks for the advice.
I've got the 40 Cal version of this gun, model 2340. It's an excellent weapon and does a good job taming that snappy 40 caliber round. I got mine in the late 1990s, and it's a shame that it was never a commercial success.
Did you get the.357 Sig barrel for it?
Have two, a black and a FDE model. Love mine, both are good shooters that have been 100% reliable. I think it's the most underrated Sig pistol made.
I think you are right. Especially when it comes to the new ones.
Bought one in 40SW as an archery hunting sidearm. Despite it getting grit and pine needles in it over the course of a hunt it has never had a malfunction, but Ive only had to ALMOST use it once in the woods. Added a Hogue rubber grip and it feels great to shoot. A little too big to comfortably CC for me, but I suppose bigger guys might be able to tuck it away.
Wow, I am sorry you almost had to use it. I am glad that you are ok.
I have had one of these pistols for quite a few years and it is one of my favorites in my collection... Basically a hammer fire double action Glock 19 or a polymer P229. 👍👍
I agree. It does fill that role.
the fact that it is hammer-fired makes it significantly different than any glock. Comparable to a Sig P250 or an HK-P30 P2000 or USP, all polymer and hammer-fired. Striker fired pistols are just completely different, like comparing PC to mac.
@@MJA5 I meant it has the same Barrel length and magazine capacity as the Glock 19...
It's like a polymer version of the sig 229
@@propdoctor21564 in that sense, it’s similar to about 50 other handguns, from Caniks to Taurus and all the letters in between. Honestly it has very few compeitors that aren’t made in Europe.
Its crazy. This sig was my first pistol. I didn't choose it because of the name, i chose the sp2022 because of all that I tried in the $500 range it felt great in my hand and felt well balanced. Unfortunately i have yet to go to a range and do some target practice.
I hope it is a great pistol for you!
I had a 2022 as my first gun chambered in 9mm and I loved it. Also, got a SigPro 2340 chambered in .40 S&W and a P229R E2 grips with both a .40 and .357 Sig with 3-12rd mags. Just like my H&K VP40 tactical with the threaded barrel and 4 mags, 2-13rd and 2-10 rd and my Beretta 92FS 9m. These are hands down 5 of the best handguns ever made.
I am glad you like them. They are all really good.
I bought mine in 2007. Highly underrated. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean its low quality.
Very good point.
I just ordered one for the same reason. Unfortunately I live in one of those blue states so I'm stuck with 10 round magazines...
I am so sorry. I hope you can escape there one day.
I bought one to CA
Damned fine pistol. The French National Police bought 250,000 of them! The contract with Sig was until 2022, hence the 2022 model number.
That is what I hear. I guess they are still in service. I wonder what they will replace them with.
I love this gun. Bought it a few years back and got a version without the LCI and I'm in California. Mine also has the internal extractor.
They are underrated.
I just got one for my sig collection outstanding weapon
Congratulations!
Hi Jason, UK subscriber here. I've been looking for an old video of yours regarding your Colt Python (which I believe you no longer have). Is the video available to watch again anywhere please?
I wish I could say that there was. I lost a lot of my older videos that were not backed up when RUclips took down my original channel. That was one that was lost.
Good morning, Jason, I am slipping to the dark side and considering a Sig purchase. I have just purchased a 2011 9mm, as it my birthday next week. Cheers
I do not think you will be disappointed.
I found them online for $399 with no sales tax and free shipping. I might have to buy one.
That is a good price!
Where at?!
@@GentlemanEDC Don't cha love when they don't reply...😒
@@cumshot247 for that price I would def snag one
What is the difference between this pistol and the sig SP2022 SO??
The SO is single action only. This one is DA/SA.
I love my SP2022! I wouldn't say it isn't popular, as threaded barrel options sell out within a day. I've waited years for a threaded barrel, only to be thwarted by quicker buyers.
I would like a threaded barrel for mine too.
I had one about a decade ago. Totally reliable, I liked the single action trigger pull, but the bore axis sucked and I would tend to shoot low with it.
That is because the sighting of Sig is meant to be different. You have to aim the high. They refer to them as a "combat" sighting.
@@thetexasgunvault can you explain that further? I’m having the same issue the guy above mentioned about shooting low. I’m a lefty and each one is going slightly down and slightly to the right a smidgen, consistently.
@@kickingworld That is a problem with your grip, lefty holding too tight shoots low/right. Right handers will shoot low/left.
"Combat sighting" is where you cover the point of impact with the front sight dot.
@@alm4132 was also anticipating the shot and have learned since then how to properly press the trigger and not “pull”. Plus was doing alignment to the top of the sights instead of combat with the middle of the dot. Have been doing great since.
@@kickingworld Excellent!
Good presentation. My experience with the FNP-40 showed me how unruly .40 could be on a polymer frame, so my next poly was the SP2022 in 9mm. It already has its SIG Pro predecessors, but it'd nice to have a piece of firearm history even if it's discontinued.
the USA has similar restrictions referred to as ITARS
Yes, but they do not seem as strict.
@@thetexasgunvaultthey cover the necessary military items that you would not want to give the enemy , holographic sights, nightvision, weapon technologies also hopefully cutting down on copying the gear
I won this sp2022 in the FDE version with night sight for it for $ 25.⁰⁰. It's a great gun, great trigger. Love it...
That is an incredible deal! Congratulations!
It's also extremely upgradable so if you don't like the trigger you can upgrade that quite easily, holsters are a plenty and with the SRT installed and an optic cut slide, I think this guy is changed from a pretty basic polymer 229 to a very effective all around do it all 9mm pistol.
Great information. Thank you for adding it.
@@thetexasgunvault Thanks for your content brother, appreciate you doing your part for the 2A by educating folks and making them aware of why we love guns so much. We don't want to hurt folks and most of us pray we'll never ever have to fire a round at a person but it's important to understand there is evil in this world and that it's important to have a shield when that evil comes for you or your loved ones. What you guys do here on RUclips grows the community and that's an important service my friend, thank you!
How is it shooting/handling for wrong handed people?
I am right handed so I can't say for sure, but I do not hear it is an issue.
Mine didn’t come with a round in the chamber indicator :0
Is yours and early one?
@@thetexasgunvault no I just recently bought it about a week ago no loaded indicator or safety :0
@@Josh-sr5ib There is no manual safety and the Cali guns have the loaded chamber indicator.
@@alm4132hey bro mine doesn’t have either of those it’s trippy I can send you pictures so you can see
@@Josh-sr5ib I have one with the LCI and one without. Calif. requires the LCI.
I love this pistol man.. I’m so glad i got it when i did especially living is the shit hole i live at ..
Glas to hear it works well for you. Where so you live?
@@thetexasgunvault Southern California my brother 🥹
@@West_sideKnecht4 It's not all bad... depends which area you're in. I grew up in South Central LA so the other areas seem better. 😂
The sp2022 is definitely the most underrated sig. but still miles ahead of most other brand pistols. The French foreign legion this is there service pistol. Also many other military’s
I can see why too. I think people may not like it because it is polymer.
It's not the French Foreign Legion pistol, they used the PAMAS G1 and are switching to the Glock Gen 5. However, the SP2022 is the service pistol of the French Police and GENDARMERIE.
@@Nivelle_le_Gris thank you for that. Not sure how I messed that up but now I know
I have one that I acquired to be a beater, something to have around to take abuse that I woud not want to subject my Cajunized CZ 85 or Sig M11A1 (229 clone disguised as a 228), like taking along on a saltwater fishing trip. And it still is a Sig after all.
I think that is a good role for it.
@@thetexasgunvault Yes also got a good deal on a spare parts kit from Sig thaat has lots of extras to keep it running, like a Firing pin, some springs and slide stop among other small items. I also upgraded the recoil spring guide rod from plastic to metal.
Thank you for the history on this firearm.
You are very welcome. I love to learn about the history of guns.
Anyone have any idea what parts are interchangeable for the sp2022
Many SO2022 parts are only for this model.
Nice presentation!
Best to ya',,,,!
Thank you very much
You never mentioned that the 40 cal barrel can be swapped out for a 357 magnum barrel
I thought that was common knowledge.
@@thetexasgunvault I bought mine 5 years ago and talk to people and they know the gun but didn't know it would take a barrel swap,
@@clintmoore3863 357Sig, not Magnum.
I daily carry mine ,mine is in 40sw
It is a quality CCW pistol.
The trigger in mine is awesome.
I am glad to hear that.
@@thetexasgunvault It is the first gun I bought. I got mine in 2009. It’s a .40 cal. I couldn’t afford a P229 as it was about $350+ more than the SP2022. It is an awesome shooter. Never had a malfunction. It’s my go to gun for home defense when things go bump in the night.
Did your 2022 come with xtra back straps?
I've never been a real Sig fan. They are solid running firearms. But, I like your presentations so I watch.
The one most underrated firearms made was the FN FNS 9. Never much said about it. Do you have any experience with it, sorry for going waayyyy off-topic?
Best to ya',,,,!
I have not reviewed a FNS9, but I did review the FNP9 and did like it.
I have both the Sig 2022 & the FNS 9, love them both. The 2022 is really easy to rack since the slide has a lot of height to it. I like the FNS because I am left-handed & it has an ambidextrous mag release. They are not good conceal carry guns for me do to their size, so I carry a S&W Shield 9mm.
Still love my SP2022.
I am so glad to hear that.
Just picked up a SP2022 used for $369.99 black. Two magazines, original box, holster and laser. Will report back after the gun range.
espero informe
It sounds like you got it for a good deal.
2nd time at the range with SP2022 9mm and I hit 3 consecutive targets from 5 yards. Shoot 150 rounds per visit. Will report back after I take my ccw this month.

@@thetexasgunvault you’re welcome!
Mine has been just as reliable as my P229
I am so glad to hear that.
Wish i wouldn't have sold mine
They are still being made.
@@thetexasgunvault oh nice! I thought they stopped making them. I still have a bunch of mags lol
I just bought one and it has by far the worst trigger I've ever felt.
This one is better than the older one I reviewed.
I own 2 of them
Sounds like you like it a lot! I do not blame you.
I have quite a sig collection
You better join the nra
LOL, why is that?
Strange pistol. A full size gun with tiny compact or subcompact grips and to make it worst for your wrist, a high bore axis. Not a good formula to handle recoil.
I totally see that.
😊😊👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you!
