      I think I'm probably getting an SB150 next year, even though I think it looks ugly as hell. Honestly if the Transition Sentinel had 150mm rear instead of 140 I'd be getting that 100% but I already have a "trail" bike and I need something I can lap Creek with every once in a while

    Just as each bike has different geometry, components and setup that effect performance, each rider has different geometry, skills, preferences, strength, riding styles and rides different terrain. Each rider should therefore choose which bike is right for him or her. I rode some of these bikes and prefer my SC Tallboy which is totally different.

    My buddy just rented a 2019 Stumpjumper @ Mammoth the first day we rode and a 2019 Trek Slash 8 the second day. He was totally gungho on SJ's up to that trip and the minute we started riding day two, he wouldn't shut up about how much more he loved the Trek. He loved the build, the head angle, the 29in wheels, and the general overall feel. He loved how much further back he felt on the bike. Climbing he loved both because they both came with 10-50 Cassettes if I am not mistaken. I loved this video though. Thank you for the comparison. That Yeti Turq is gorgeous.

      have u been able to set up ur fork to use the full travel? my lyrik seems like i cant get the full travel w/out going over 38-40% sag... or does it just ride high? thnx man.

    • @fabian12369139
      @fabian12369139 5 лет назад

      @@kinnectedmtb3209 did you figure it out? I have a 2019. Just go lower PSI, my LBS mechanic told me so, that the design will allow you to go lower psi without feeling too planted to the ground, we took out 10 psi from recommended when trail riding, and when doing big jumps or a lot of "park" stuff, went 10 up to avoid a lot of harsh bottom out.

    • @michiganstate149
      @michiganstate149 4 года назад

      Check the volume reducers you have. If you can't use full travel even with lower PSI you need to reduce the volume. It'll allow you to not ramp up the last part of the travel and run a more normal pressure and sag.

    i have been riding a specialized stumpjumper since 2010 and i just days ago bought myself a new one, a remedy. i love the feeling of it and how playful it is. and i also love the styling of it. it looks agressive af by having such girth in the tubing and it fits where i ride like a glove (northern sweden) alot of places where i really want to have that deep travel bike and the stiffness of the frame makes the bike so much more confidence inspiring. and it being good at climbing is a big plus to where i live. i don't have any lifts going up the hills so a bike that is just as competent up hill as going down is what i need.
    amazing bike and i'm shure i will be riding this one for long to come

    I think the sb150 is almost out of place in this list and maybe should have been the the next category up but I understand that you have to draw the line somewhere. Also it's a shame you didn't have the Stumpy Evo for this test, it's much more in line with the bikes you liked than the standard version, which is really a bit disappointing and not much of a step forward over the previous version IMO.

    Some of the complaints these guys have about the bikes are just a matter of setup. Yeah if the bike feels low in it's suspension, try volume spacers or higher shock PSI.... If the front end wanders, try dropping the stem.... If it feels too long, try a smaller size/adjust seat position. I've had my mountain bike for almost 2 months and I'm still moving headset spacers, changing shock pressure, etc. Bike keeps feeling better & better with each adjustment.

    Really nice comparison. Hearing about the riding tastes/trails of the three of you helps me understand which bike would be best for me. The surprises for me were the Kona, whose bikes have felt sort of leaden to me in the past, and the Remedy. But for this class I would really need to see you test the Orbea Rallon, Evil Offering, and Yeti SB130. All are up to date, and the last seems like it would better a better fit in this review group than the 150. Any chance these will be coming? Hoping Pinkbike can get over its apparent Evil shunning.

      Rallon is no where near this class, it's a full on race bike (and they did do a review on it already on their website, if I recall)

    @Pinkbike: If you would have included a Pivot Mach 5.5 in this test, how do you think it would have done? Would it have been your overall top choice? Please let me know your expert opinion of it compared to these bikes. And if anyone else reading this has extensive experience with the Mach 5.5, please let me know how you think it stacks up against the Trek, Kona, etc. Thanks.

      I mean at the end of the day it doesn't matter if they are biased. They like what they like. And even if I agree that finding a way to anonomyize it would be a theoretical improvement, it's impractical to say the least. Using these as starting points is a better idea anyway. Spend a couple days demoing bikes and figure out what you like

  • @hummer694life

    I agree that the SJ is a little bit on the conservative side for geo. Luckily they have the EVO and it's going carbon next year. It will outgun the Enduro for sure. I predict a new Enduro for 2020.

    • @user-180-mand90
      @user-180-mand90 6 лет назад +2

      It wasn't even about being 'conservative' for me (as you can shred ANY of these bikes) - the SJ just feels cramped. It felt solid, but like riding on-top and over the front end, whereas the Trek Fuel & Remedy I tested felt way more dialed-in and balanced for the size. I think Trek's new bikes are super underrated, and would win many reviews if they eliminated the KB. The Slash is just an absolute Beast.

      hummer694life I have the 27.5 version and I usually ride a medium, but I got a large and it’s about perfect just a little long but that’s how I like it. When you get those things set up good they can plow and smash through stuff and they jump really well

      That was exactly what I thought when I first saw/read about the EVO. Or even worse, discontinue to Enduro. Sure enough, a brand new totally redesigned Enduro for 2020. My new prediction; next mid cycle refresh may dump the conservative geometry of the Stumpy and go with EVO geo across the line. The current regular stumpy geo trickles down to the new “Camber”.

    Its a shame that with these videos you can't really trust them because of all the politics. Thee is no doubt these channels get kick backs from companies, it has been happening in all industries for years. They barely talked about the Stumpy and this is the first 'bad' review I have seen on it. I think people focus on trends to much, if something isn't longer and slacker than last year its deemed not progressive, this does't equate to a better bike. I enjoyed the video, I liked the way you brought up about where people ride and what bike might suit better just take these videos with a pinch of salt as I don't believe they ae as transparent as they would like you to believe.

    • @src248
      @src248 6 лет назад +1

      Did you not watch the standalone video? It wasn't a bad review at all.... and what makes you think you can truest all those other reviews then? Wouldn't you think a review with more negatives to be the more accurate review?

    • @horizonxx_1
      @horizonxx_1 6 лет назад +1

      Yes I did. I shouldn't have used the word 'bad review' but not favourable anyway thats not the point. I don't think all those other reviews are trust worthy either after all it is someones opinion. All I was getting at is that big companies often have allegiance to certain brands therefore biased. A lot of kids would watch these videos and may not know that. this is why i don't usually comment on videos because someone usually jumps down your throat for doing so. @@src248

      We don't have any alliances to brands. We got these bikes built up on day 1 of the Field Test and had never ridden them before. Did a few weeks of riding and then filmed our opinions, with no kick back or input from brands. These are our honest opinions.

    What is with all that wheel flex on the Kona at :48 and the Stumpy at :42? Seems the Bronson has none, is this because of a weak top tube? Seems scary. Anyway, comparing 27.5's to 29ers, not a real great comparison really. Why not compare the Hightower LT to the SB150 instead of the Bronson? That would be better.

    Idk whats going on with some of the 29ers. A lot of flex in the head tube/fork. Thats super weird. The sc and the yet had very little. You can see that flex sends shock waves through the riders body when the camera is slowed down. But ya that was super weird. Im 6f2 and 29ers scrape my sak. So im out on all the 29ers.
