Piston slap here is due to design of these (for 1l pretty efficient) engines. They come by default with slim pistons (less friction) which in connection with VVT & constantly changing of ignition timing gives that ticking noise - nothing bad with this. Drawback is typically you burn/loose lot of oil (use 5W-30 in my for 6 month pretty cold country and need at least 1l extra oil for ~10k km) from passing by the pistons, so definitely not a city car for small distances.
Its normal for them to be noisy yes.. This one is extreme... the metal on metal sound is pretty horrible for the first 10 min of driving... then its not that bad... :) It uses around a liter pr 1000km... Yea consideren other engines the 68 horses from a 1.0 is pretty healthy.... On the other hand, my 1050 Fiat abarth engine is producing 70 horsepower from a old school pushrod engine!! Not that economically though.. ;)

Yes they are known to make a ticking sound... But mine is really loud and I believe something more sinister is wrong with it... This is not my first C1 but my previous was way more silent ... and did not use as much oil... :)
@@departe5672 I use 10W40. With this oil it's very silent. I found very cheap one for around $4 for 1L. And oil filter for only 3$ 😃 So one oil changing with oil filter costs me only $15 😃👍
We have a 2014 c1, bought with 90.000 km. Ticking......now 190.000 km on odo. Still ticking😅 Doesnt matter what oil you put in,nothing helps! But it consumes a lot of oil! 1 liter per 1000 km. We keep it till it dies😊 👍
I had that problem check cleaning pcv on here a few vids. Totally eliminated oil consumption easy 10 min job. May be broken when take it out shake it if dont rattle replace £15. I used vid by cyclone Sid on u tube. If it can’t breathe it burns oil
Its still running and sounding the same.... Oil usage has actually gone down a bit... But I wont do anything before it grenades' itself... ;) Many has confirmed that the noise is worse then normal c1s but apparently its not a huge deal.... I think at least 40.000km has been driven since this video :)
I thought that my C1 had the same issue. With some 240.000 km on the clock, it had that sound, and I started looking for replacement engines. But then it struck me, that I had recently changed the drive belt, and that there was some sound issues with that. And after giving the belt a good load of talc and silicone oil, the slapping sound vanished.
my peugeot 107 shakes a whole lot since changing all motor mounts. one was bad so I went ahead and changed them all. All Febi parts. Cant for the life of me figure it out. it seems less after driving for a couple weeks, but its still there. its there when idling with clutch pushed in and not pushed in so its not driveline related. it shakes mostly between 1800 and 2500 RPM
These engines just seem to tick like that, if you just look after it they are bomb proof. 5w30 oil is supposed to be the best for them. My wife has used hers daily for 6 or so years with only wear and tear parts needed. I got one around 2 years ago and its been superly reliable driven in anger daily 😂
i messured my c1 to 0,45dl pr mile with mixed driving..PRETTY impressive actualy..i have the wery same ticking noise but found it to get a bit better when it is warm..All c1 is ticking in some degree.
Mine makes the sound, but when I accelerate a high pitch tone is also heard and I drive a automatic when it shifts from 1 to 2 it’s like the engine is going to fly out of the car... think mine is slowly dying, but it drove me around for 6 years now.
just a mention...mine was on 5/30 and id say it was pretty embarrassing /obvious knock /tick when accelerating , ive changed to 10/40 and its 90% gone , maybe worth a try ? i think you can go thicker still and still be in the reccomended range ...sounds much nicer imo
The newest 1K-RFE motors the VTI 72 Toyota recommend 0W-20 I don't know what they changed internally what I do know is that the older Daihatsu Cuore '90 models ran on 10W-40 I think 15W is too thick for cold temperatures?

Having watched a few YT Vids on these the problem seems to be caused by worn big end bearings or possibly overfilled with oil or even water ingestion going through a flood causing the con rod in cylinder number 1 to become bent

@Minimalism the rear silencer is new and all the mountings are secure I just see the vibration from the engine follow down the mid pipe and make its way to the silencer but only on idle otherwise its OK, joys of cars hey
Jeg har en Aygo der har gået 112000 miles (180.000km). Den tikker også og bruger en del olie. Lyden går væk når den bliver varm. Får også jævnligt samme advarsel for catalytic system. Hvad er seneste status på din motor? jeg overvejede om det kunne være plejlstangslejet der er slidt?
Det bliver værre og værre... Lyden er meget plejlstangs agtigt... Hvis den står af tænker jeg bestemt at åbne motoren og finde fejlen... Der er vist mange der bøvler med det .. Den ryger også.. så der må jo næsten også være noget med ringene... Lyden går næsten væk når den er varm..

Greetings from Portugal. My wife's Aygo had that exact noise and it was a stretched timing chain. The car has 180.000km. I think those 15.000km oil change intervals recommended by Toyota , probably were a bit too much... Anyway, I've installed a good quality timing chain kit, and problem solved.
@@SeasideGarage well, I also replaced the valve stem seals. Because it was consuming about 1litre of oil every 1.000km. I did a compression test, and a leak down test, all perfect. And the cross hatch on cylinders were also perfect. So my bet was valve seals. And since I had to disassemble the engine I replaced the timing chain kit. It wasn't a fun job,but, the little Aygo now runs like new.

And I've seen a Peugeot 107 with 280.000 km and a Citroen c1 with almost 350.000km... Witch I find amazing for such a small engine. So, I think it's worth the expense. As I said, I hope it helps. 👍

Hej igen. Prøv lige med Shell V Power oktan 100 og noget brændstofrens (Lindemann) I tanken. Min 107 er helt holdt op med at tikke, selv når den er kold.

It could... I am pretty sure its either piston slap or the tappet that makes the bore oval and therefore rattles... If I swap the engine, i will make a video about finding the fault as it seems to be a very common issue.. :)

Yes they are quite noisy in general... some say that its often the waterpump being noisy actually! But yes, I do think that mine suffers from something more severe.... it runs great tho ! :)
i have to stop watching these videos. I see a lot of faults with the 1.0 3cil engines lol. My dad has one but still fine, not burning oil, no sludge, no ticking and pretty silent. Hope it will be good forever and not having these issues

I suspect either piston slap og worn out cam follower (the bore becomes oval) I think Im going to put another engine in it in the future, and try do find the error on the old. Its common for these engines to sound rough and tappy, and they can drive like that for many many miles... but mine is also using alot of oil! thats not good... If its not using oil, i would not worry about this sound... on this engine!.

Use 10W40 and im telling you that no extra oil will ve needed.
Check cyclone Sid clean pcv valve. Mine was using oil and did this I had to replace not clean and zero oil consumption at 110 k miles

I change oil every 3000km And i will change it every 2000km. 3 liters of oil is only 15 USD.
Lots of low mileage 1krfe engines for sale due to body write offs too. Around £300 will go forever zero rot
