It's not a Ukelele guitar but its father. The name is cavaquinho or braguinha, a portuguese instrument which traveled with Portuguese emigrants from Madeira to Hawaii on the end of the XIX century. There's a lot of people who doesn't know, even in Portugal, that the Ukelele came from a Portuguese guitar.
I actually prefer this acustique version, you can listen to the actual singing better. It's clean, just her soulful voice, the supporting back vocals and the guitars.
You need to read the lyrics to understand the song. The lyrics of the song are pure poetry. Iolanda struggles with her fears. They are her ghosts and the people who did her harm. She screams (grito) and manages to overcome her ghosts and the pain she feels. The ghosts disappear. She has become powerful and is reborn to life. That's why she continues to sing after the scream. Iolanda and the ghosts are dressed in white because they emit light. Light is the hope of overcoming pain. The color black is the storm of her soul.
6:32 - Pardon, Zoe, that's not a Ukulele, it's called "Cavaquinho" and it's one of the traditional 4 string-type guitars that the portuguese who emigrated to Hawaii to work in the sugar cane fields took with them that gave origin to the Ukulele. 🙂
I think that the end is absolute perfection the way it is. A build-up doesn't always mean it has to get louder. Sometimes it just gets more intense, and I think Iolanda just nailed it. The reverb of the Panteão Nacional also added an extra layer of magic. Just finished watching the final and for me this was the song of the contest.
Absolutely agree. I love this version more than the one she sang at Eurovision (which was splendid as well), precisely because it seems she's holding her suffering, getting enfuriated inside because hell how is it true that the loudest "screams" are those kept inside our heads when we're feeling hopeless. It's really a matter of intensity and tension and she delivered this in a sublime way.
Great reaction video from Zoe for a great song from Iolanda. This song is poetry. The vocals are stunnin. The beginning a capella is beautiful. GRITO is powerful! 👏
If you love Iolanda performance, vote 14 🇵🇹 ... Portugal need your vote to go to the final ❤️ If you are in a country from the rest of the world , you can vote in ESC site now
I think you might enjoy looking up Portuguese fado. Either more traditional (Amália Rodrigues) or more recent (like Deolinda with stuff like "que parva que eu sou" - that got a standing ovation the first time it was played in public and went on to become THE músic representing the generation caught in the 2008/2009 economic crisis)
I love this song, Iolanda's voice is stunning and I hadn't seen this performance before. You should also check out her national final performance for a "fuller" version of the song, it allows her to push her vocal a little more and the staging really adds to the atmosphere: ruclips.net/video/K5wDGhcDSpQ/видео.html
As lágrimas emergem, o corpo treme alma eleva-se aos céus. Anjos de Deus. Musica celestial. São anjos do céu a cantar por Deus. Para união emocional. A alma genuína e celestial. PURA E INCOMPARÁVEL. Subscribed, as this is, no shadow of a doubt, as the best Analysis on youtube about this song. By the way, it´s not a ukelele(who is bigger than a cavaquinho and has nylon strings), but a cavaquinho (who is smaller and has metal strings). Ukelele exists, because it was introduced by portuguese from Madeira islands to Hawai.
Thank you so much ❤also everyone around the world dont forget you can vote as part of the "Rest of the World", we will need every vote possible to qualify😭from Monday to Tuesday voting will open in the eurovision website or the official eurovision app!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ this acoustic version ,hapened on Panteão of Portugal , its a special place , were the special person on Portugal historiy R.I.P like :Warriors , Poets ,etc.
Yes very special ,specially when they use him as a restaurant , to promote IT lobbys . Deves ter memoria curta....Not giving bad remarks to her poetry and voice that is shivering.
Hello, I was super happy with the comment about iolanda's song. A small correction: the song is called GRITO and no GRITTO which means scream in English. tHAK YOU
Gosh, your reactions are soooo genuine and charming, that was an immediate subscribe for me! Also this is one of my absolute favourites this year, she sang amazingly at yesterday's grand final 💗
You'be mentioned the wave...that's what it sounds indeed...the sound of the waves back and forth. We Portugese people are very connected to the sea. So yes, it's like a wave movement ❤❤
'Grito' is a song that talks about a journey inside myself, of self-discovery and self-perception. I wanted to take to the Festival a song that represented a side of me that I hadn't had the opportunity to show yet. Yolanda
The Scream I heard, I felt The body to carry We continue like this One and the other One and the other One and the other I'm free falling Let me know when you get there I surrender here Little by little Long steps stuck in the match I want to let go of what left me hurt I ask the mother star to make the day Born again I transformed every verse of me And give in to courage That still burns It still burns Hit the light on your chest and open it I am a flame that still burns It still burns It still burns Today I want to prove myself That I can be whatever I want Bring together those who love me at a table Forgive anyone who wanted to see me suffer They don't fool me! (No!) I'm every size I still remember when I was little And dreamed first Long steps stuck in the match Today I let go of what left me hurt And I ask the mother star to make the day Born again I transformed every verse of me And give in to courage That still burns It still burns Hit the light on your chest and open it I am a flame that still burns It still burns It still burns I am a flame that still burns It still burns I am a flame that still burns It still burns Burn Burn Burn I transformed every version of myself And give in to courage That still burns It still burns Hit the light on your chest and open it I am a flame that still burns It still burns It still burns
If you like this you haven't seen nothing yet . Check out Mariza (gente da minha terra- Live you will cry ) , Madredeus, Amalia Rodrigues, Dulce Pontes ( canção do Mar) and Ana Moura they are all absolutely AMAZING well known Fado singers

Hi Zoe. This is FADO - portuguese unique type of song - technical singing. Try listening to Dulce Pontes!
A word of knowledge. It is not an ukelele it's called cavaquinho and is the father of the ukelele. Yes, it was the portuguese navigators in the XVI century who brought the cavaquinho to Hawai and later on was renamed ukelele by the locals!!!
Maybe if you follow this link you will understand better the dance and the way the song ends: ruclips.net/video/7m2DhDhJ4-8/видео.htmlsi=guhmaqw4hrYpTHV0 Even if the name of the song is "Grito" (shout), the lyrics never mention that word. The highest part of the song is her shout (grito) when she frees herself from whatever is trying to slow her down because her fire still burns ("ainda arde"). It is a very emotional, griping song and Iolanda performs and sings it to perfection!
If you translate the lyrics from Portuguese you would understand it even better. Music and lyrics make the song. You can hear fado without translating it into english but i guess you only really feel it if you understand the lyrics meaning. This is the case of " O grito". Showing respect for the portuguese language would take your comments to another level. The final version is a poetic masterpiece.
É essa emoção que provoca nas pessoas que não compreende ou fala português a música e universal não importa em que idioma é cantada .A letra fala de nus libertar de uma dor seija ela física mental ou amorosa .Portugual esta de parabéns letra muisica e voz soberbos.
Even though I'm not a festival fanatic, it was good and gave a signal that many didn't understand, but those who voted understood - No to wars! Free and Independent Palestine! People are intelligent, but we also know that there are hypocrites

Verdade….!!! 👍
Eu sei.!!
wish everybody learn that
Acho que em Portugal todos sabem (pelo menos os atentos a alguma cultura), no estrangeiro é que é preciso dar mais os créditos a Portugal.
iolanda is sing about her past depression and how she managed to continue even when she didnt want to
Best vocals of eurovision 2024
Anyone who says otherwise is a fool 😂
Food for the soul ❤
She can't sing, she's always out of tune, her vocal technique is inexistent. She can't tell the difference between an A and an A flat 🤣😂😂
You should see her final performance. This is an acustique version
I actually prefer this acustique version, you can listen to the actual singing better. It's clean, just her soulful voice, the supporting back vocals and the guitars.

You're right about "it still burns" - ainda arde
She was one of my favourites in the Grand Final - such a wonderful song with beautiful lyrics about the flame still burning inside you
Portugal desde que ganó eurovision ha viniendo creciendo, que continuan así.
Fuerza portugal y mucha suerte. 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹

The ukelele is a son of Cavaquinho that the portuguese delivered out in the Pacific islands. Cavaquinho it´s the one they are using

"Breathy"- Fado - It's our culture and it's beautiful indeed.
Hello Zoe. This is the acoustic version, not the one she brings to eurovision.
I love this song, Iolanda's voice is stunning and I hadn't seen this performance before. I agree, this was a more intimate version and she was holding back a lot on some parts to avoid overpowering the instruments and the room's acoustics.
Beautiful ❤🇵🇹🎵
It really is!
She's amazing ❤

The Scream
I heard, I felt
The body to carry
We continue like this
One and the other
One and the other
One and the other
I'm free falling
Let me know when you get there
I surrender here
Little by little
Long steps stuck in the match
I want to let go of what left me hurt
I ask the mother star to make the day
Born again
I transformed every verse of me
And give in to courage
That still burns
It still burns
Hit the light on your chest and open it
I am a flame that still burns
It still burns
It still burns
Today I want to prove myself
That I can be whatever I want
Bring together those who love me at a table
Forgive anyone who wanted to see me suffer
They don't fool me! (No!)
I'm every size
I still remember when I was little
And dreamed first
Long steps stuck in the match
Today I let go of what left me hurt
And I ask the mother star to make the day
Born again
I transformed every verse of me
And give in to courage
That still burns
It still burns
Hit the light on your chest and open it
I am a flame that still burns
It still burns
It still burns
I am a flame that still burns
It still burns
I am a flame that still burns
It still burns
Burn
Burn
Burn
I transformed every version of myself
And give in to courage
That still burns
It still burns
Hit the light on your chest and open it
I am a flame that still burns
It still burns
It still burns

Welcome
the time of the songs in the Eurovision is limited... so the song must end! 😀
Why do they want to silence us? Portugal's song was not released on Eurovision social media, why? Long live freedom, mouth peace.
This is an acoustic version. The official version sounds a bit different. Check the other version, please.
9:12 that is Eurovision rules, the songs must at máx. 3min long
