  • In this first video (of 3), I will install a 10.1 inch touch screen stereo, and show you how to do it (on a 2008 Honda Pilot). Then in part 2, I will install the back up camera that came with this stereo. And in part 3, I correct an issue that one of my viewers brought to light:-)

      @@hurstysgarageI have a RL 07, and I purchased the same Stereo and Harness that you link up. Soldered all Wire properly, dash was very trick to make work but: turned on the key power came on at stereo. Radio play for about 10 minutes and stop to play. Stereo keeping turn on and off. The equipment never found my wifi and Bluetooth. Two days trying to figure it out. I done, gonna return it. Thanks for the video.

    Ohhhh man.. thats incredible how i was looking into this unit and found your videos, and I have a RL as well. And after replacing my transmission 3 weeks ago I found your videos about the leek you had. The only thing you are missing for me is the rotted rocker panel, can you make videos on redoing rocker panel? 😂😂 I also like the painting on your RL very nice. All around thanks for your videos,very helpful. God bless!

      Hey Ricardo...glad you decided to bring your RL back to life with a new tranny (should be good for another 300k now)! Yeah, those rocker panels can be a real bear if you live in a place with salt and moisture. Luckily, before I painted my truck, I got rid of my rust there with sanding (did not penetrate all the way through...but sounds like you didn't get same luck. Thanks for the vid got it on my 2013 ridgeline only wish you would show putting the trim back over the mount it's a pain, also more into clam with aftermarket was not easy I will have to go over but I love the stereo have you done anything kool with it? What can it do?

    • @hurstysgarage
      @hurstysgarage  3 года назад +1

      Hey Francisco...thanks buddy:-) Yeah, sorry, that was kind of a pain...just make sure you leave enough space between radio and mount so you can fit trim over. And try starting on the right (after going over shifter) with trim on radios right, then slide left a bit, then should slip over, but don't forget to connect air control harnesses. And, I've been basically using it for Netflix and just the radio so far, and a few games that I downloaded prepared. But if you get yours up and running let me know and let me know what you've done... Thanks again for coming and hope it works out for you:-)

    • @hurstysgarage
      @hurstysgarage  3 года назад +1

      Uptown, that is the HARDEST part to accomplish! I had to leave a 1/2 to 1" gap to ba able to fit our trim over stereo faceplate. Its a real pain to get the spacing right and still let trim go over but it can be done...just cover stereo screen with something so you don't scratch if when trying to do this. And I started from steering wheel and shifter to get that over, then around stereo...hooking wires near there as needed, then worked my way left towards door to clip in.

    I still didn't see how you got the dashboard around a wider screen. I want to have a plan before I install and I'm replacing a non working Honda Ridgeline 2007 factory with Navi. A little more complicated because it takes up 3 slots on the stock. I have a kit for it but now trying to figure out how my screen which is bigger than the hole will go in , it's not like the old slip in after sleeve

    • @hurstysgarage
      @hurstysgarage  2 года назад

      Hey Jason...it was definitely tough and not fun...but if you play with it a bit it eventually slips over on an angle...just make sure you put trim over shift knob first, then start at top corner of faceplate and use gap between top of screen and back of unit as buffer to maneuver rest of trim over faceplate. It took me a few swear words and some tries to finally get it, but it will work:-) Sorry, I don't have any pics of that. Let me know how it goes...crossing fingers!!!!

      Hey James, awesome question! And don't take my advice, but here is an article written by a well known company...
      In most cases, you can mount the GPS antenna near the top of the underside of your dash (behind or above the receiver). Satellite signals are so strong and reliable these days that this should be sufficient to maintain reliable reception. It also serves to keep the antenna out of sight.

    • @hurstysgarage
      @hurstysgarage  3 года назад +1

      Hello Grimesh...that was the fun part! Sorry, I did not put that in video...it was a real pain to maneuver dash faceplate. What you want to do is allow for about an 3/4" to 1 1/2" gap between mounting faceplate and headunit to start...then when installing dash trim plate, make sure vehicle lever is still in D2, slide trim over shifter, then over and around stereo faceplate (this is hardest part, and make sure to try not to scratch front glass by keeping original protector plastic on screen), it will fit cause trim faceplate does bend and stretch ever so slightly. Then you are home free to pop on therside by window. The key is to leave enough space between stereo head unit screen face (apprx. 1") and mounting hardware face so you have enough room to work around mounting trim nd allowing also for trim face width:-)

      Cesar...that's why I leave a 1/2" to 3/4" gap between stereo faceplate and mounting faceplate, so you can slide vehicle trim around stereo and then work it around and snap in...you will have a gap in the end depending on how close you were able to get it, that you can fill with black foam or other appropriate material to fill...but I was able to get it really tight.

      A: Hi. To check if it fits your car, please measure the installation size and confirm the harness.
      Main Screen Size: 250(W)*145(H)mm. With metal sheet fixed on, installation size: 180(W)*75(H)*70(D)mm.
      It comes with a harness with naked wires, without connector.
      Some cars need to buy a dash kit and dedicated harness/adapter if you want perfectly fitted.
      I bought the aftermarket dash kit because their metal frame is not exact fit, and although I had to do some slight modification, it fits really well in the end. But yes, be advised, it is not an exact fitment (again, I had to modify their brackets by bending them straight a bit to fit with aftermarket kit), but wires and all electronics are not the issue.
      Hope that answers your question:-)

    I have a Honda Ridgeline 2006. I bought the 10.1 Hikity car stereo too. Please could you HELP me telling me the cables connection and where your connect it (in case):
    1)The Yellow B+ go straight to car battery or to Yellow that say battery/constant 12v my harness is Harmony HA-701721
    2)The Red ACC go to the Red ignition/switch from harness
    3)The Black ground to the to the harness Black cable? or I have to take to the chassis?
    4)The Brown cables (Key-1 and Key-2) some people say is for wheel steering bottoms.
    Also, did you connect and where your connect (in case) the yellow cable (Memory) from harness.
    I understand I don't have to connect the pink/white (Dimmer) cable. Please could you let me know. THANKS. You have a great video!

      Hey Luis... hey partner, I answered number 4 question in your previous comment:-) and as far as number one and number three... I would use the harness to connect the wire to, instead of going to the battery for both those oh, but you can do that if you want it just means you have to run extra wire all the way over there, and it is not necessary so just connect those to the aftermarket harness wire with a corresponding yellow and red to red and black to Black... The other ways going straight to the battery creates a whole heck of a lot more work or connecting the ground to the chassis which is not necessary because the Aftermarket Wiring Harness goes into your factory harness which is connected to all the necessary spots:-) let me know how it goes but you are definitely on the right track and are doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing!

    glad to see your enjoying the Ridge.... :) Curious to know if your ridge came with a stock sub woofer(could not tell by your video)? because if it did you can actually hook it up to the your unit or any head aftermarket unit by connecting a small amp right in behind the radio space where the stock wires/harness is..... 😊
    I also noticed you didn't setup a Bluetooth MIC for handsfree calling? is there not this option to connect a microphone on the back of these units? 🤷

    • @hurstysgarage
      @hurstysgarage  3 года назад

      It might have, but the previous owner went through this thing and took out a bunch of things and added a ton (it was used as a private security vehicle and they stripped it and put light bars and a bunch of cbs and extra radios), so when I got it, I pieced it back together with the original head I got from ebay before deciding to switch to the new one. I plan on in the future adding one in (sub), but this is my second vehicle...I use a little toyota Corolla for daily driver most of time during week for gas mileage and when I dont need to transport my family in comfort (toyotas pretty rough)!

    • @hurstysgarage
      @hurstysgarage  3 года назад +1

      The head unit has a built in mic so you don't have to mess with that...its all integrated internally...hands free calling with ease, so the Hikity gets an A+ for that option:-)

    Having a lot of issues. Metal bracket on the radio doesn't match the black bracket from the installation kit. Someone please help

    • @hurstysgarage
      @hurstysgarage  3 года назад +1

      Hey Jeremy, don't threat, it will work...the 2 metal brackets in the dash kit are angled and you want them to be straight (so you will have to bend them)...then you can align holes with stereo and bracket easier and slide a couple of small nuts and bolts (which I think I used the bolts out of the original metal dash kit and some nuts I had from other projects, its been a little while though), and that should allow attachment to fstereo and faceplate bracket and allow you to position the right distance you want (1/2 to1") for ease of installing truck dash over stereo faceplate.
