      @Phil Bert that doesn't mean shit. Pippen being the better player means more than your contention that Johnson is superior at fist-a-cuffs.

    Scottie Pippen doesn’t get mentioned enough as to what great player he was. This guy was an amazing all around basketball player. He was fun to watch.

    • @jacksonrob08
      @jacksonrob08 6 лет назад +2

      Kevin P he gets metioned too much.He was no more important to them winning as was Rodman and Grant.But Rodman was a Hofer and maybe considered the greatest offensive rebounder in the game.What was Pippen all time great at.Having fake migraines?Because he wasnt a better defender than Dennis either.Just better offensively when he wasnt afraid.

    • @kevinp7300
      @kevinp7300 6 лет назад +10

      jacksonrob08 it shows how much you know about basketball. Scottie Pippen was All NBA1st Team Defense 8X, to Rodman’s 7 x, he averaged 16.1 ppg to Dennis’s 7.3ppg. He’s a 7X NBA All Star to Rodman’s 2, he’s a 6X NBA Champion to Dennis’s 5, he’s a hall of famer as an individual and as a Dream Team member. He’s all NBA First Team 3x which Rodman never made first team. Dennis was a rebounding machine, that’s undeniable. Great defender but he’s not definitively a better defender than Pippen. Rodman was a 2x Defensive Player of the year award winner yet Pippen has more all NBA 1st team selections than Rodman. What are you talking about?

    • @jacksonrob08
      @jacksonrob08 6 лет назад

      Kevin P Scottie was better offensively but Rodman was a better defender who could defend Mike or Shaq,which I have seen him do.He is also a way better rebounder.There was a reason that Rodman started at small forward for the Pistons instead of a better offensive player.But maybe your opinion is more valid than mine but I dont see why.

    • @kevinp7300
      @kevinp7300 6 лет назад +4

      jacksonrob08 we have a difference of opinion. It doesn’t mean that yours isn’t valid. I think you’re underestimating how good of a defender Pippen was. In the rebound department, it’s not even close, Rodman was way better. Ok Rodman does have the edge on defense but not by much. I’ll give you that.

    • @jacksonrob08
      @jacksonrob08 6 лет назад +2

      Kevin P we can agree to that at least.And I wasnt saying that Pippen wasnt a great defender,just not better than Dennis.Respect!

      To elaborate on what Jack Tripper got right, he or his agent didn't bet on himself. They played it safe by signing long term deal worth crap compared to what his value became. This is why players now have incentives and shorter deals. The opposite of this was Jimmy Butler, when he was on the rise he got offered a contract that everyone thought was decent, but he said no, waited a year bet on himself and became an all star got way more money.

    Honestly, Larry Johnson was at the stage of his career when he wasn't the same player, since his Charlotte days. Hornet Larry dominated with his back to the basket and Knick Larry turned into a role player, due to his chronic back.

    • @80teg
      @80teg 6 лет назад +1

      The LJ/Oak/Ewing knicks were a terrible fit together, LJ had back issues, but he also didn't post as much because Oakley and Ewing couldn't space the floor well. Thats why even undersized teams like the Bulls destroyed them -- MJ/Pip/Grant/Rodman/Harper would collapse into the paint, then strip the ball, or force them into a fade rather than a kick out (because the Knicks bigs also couldn't pass).

      @leq6992 6 лет назад +3

      Pip, yes....LJ...he was exciting his first 2 or 3 years in the league. Then he threw out his back and was a shell of himself. His first 2 seasons with the Knicks he averaged 13 and 5 then 15 and 5...not the type of numbers that give anyone the right to call out another player, let alone a perennial all-star and one of the best two-way players of all time. LJ = bum.

    • @LovingTinha
      @LovingTinha 5 лет назад +1

      LJ got over hyped and over promoted beyond his abilities, and then couldn't deliver on all that hype, that was the problem with LJ, plus he never achieved Pippens level of game all over the court and overall greatness.

      If this happened today, they'd try to milk Scottie Pippen's divorce to be because of Larry Johnson. Back then Scottie didn't ever think about Larry Johnson until when they were about to play them. Today they'd try to make it into an everyday obsession.

      LJ could have been a better player than Scottie, had he stayed healthy and focused. When he went to the Knicks he was almost done, but still managed to lead his team to the 1999 Finals when he was given more shots and offensive room. BUT, I have to say that Scottie's career was on a whole different level. He struggled in clutch moments during the first 3-4 years, then he became a beast. Take a look at some footage from the 1992 Olympics, he was the best player on court after MJ and Chuck. I loved LJ in his UNLV and Hornets years, but if I had to choose one, it's Pip all day long

      Incorrect...Scottie led the Bulls to the conference semi finals to where they lost to the knicks in 7 games. The knicks played the pacers in the conference finals. People forget that Horace Grant actually led the Bulls in rebounding and blocks the first year Jordan was gone. He averaged 11 boards a game. He gave them many big game winning blocks to that year. The second year without him is the year that Pippen led the team in everything including rebounding and blocks. However, the second year without Horace the team really felt it. They barely stayed above 500 and squeaked into the playoff when Jordan came back. Losing Horace Grant was huge for that team, and many people forget that. Many forget that Pippen didn't lead them in everything the first year Jordan was gone, he led them in points, assists, and steals; while mentioned above Horace led them in rebounding and blocks. Everyone talks about how they won and talk about Pip, and while he was the leader, we saw how important having a team was, and how important Horace Grant was to the success as well.

      He did have that one regreattble moment where he checked himself out in 94 playoffs vs the Knicks when he wasn't getting the last shot but most players who played on those bulls championship teams will tell you that pippen was probably the best teammate you could possibly have. Jordan was the best player on those bulls teams but he could be really hard on the rest of the guys at times while pippen had the more gentle touch.

      Pippen was a great player, no one can argue that. LJ had the potential to be great coming out of UNLV. At best he was a very good player. In my opinion, I thought LJ was a bit too massive as a small forward. Don't get me wrong, he could play. But the guy weighed I think 260 lbs. in his prime at small forward. And he was a massive guy. That's a lot of weight to move around for up to 82 regular season games. Especially at small forward. So much is asked at that position.

Charles Oakley played the PF for the Knicks until he got traded when they were teammates. I believe during this video beef between LJ and Scottie Pippen, Scottie had too much of an advantage because of Scottie's overall dynamic skill at the position. I highly respect LJ. As you mentioned LJ originally was indeed a PF, it was definitely hard for LJ to make the adjustment from PF to SM late during his career. Overall, LJ was a good solid pro. And Scottie was great.

      Horace Grant led them in rebounds and blocks the first year, the second year Pippen led them in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. Also, the team made it to the second round of the playoffs the first year, but the second year when Grant left the team struggled to stay at 500. Horace Grant did a lot for that team to, and when he was gone the team wasn't the same.

      @@josephdelledonne2098 Horace Grant should've stayed with the Bulls for the second three-peat, even with Dennis Rodman around. Honestly, I think Horace would've had to take a backup PF role behind Rodman as although Rodman (in his mid-to-late 30s) was older than Horace Grant going on 30 by 1996, Rodman was a valuable rebound king and Horace was never great at one moment outside of the first three-peat and his early days with the Orlando Magic before Horace hit the wall with an overpaid five-year contract as a desperate attempt to fill the void that Shaq left when he joined the Lakers.
      Horace would've been relegated to backup PF had he stayed in Chicago through 1998.

    Hold up. The level of disrespect here towards Larry Johnson is absurd. LJ was on the rise of becoming the best power forward in the NBA. He had a phenomenal rookie season. 20 & 10, and a sensational sophomore season where he averaged 23 & 10. Larry Johnson was a beast before he injured his back. I guarantee if it wasn’t for that back injury, the conversation on who’s the greatest power forward ever would be altered. People seem to forget how amazing Larry Johnson was. He lived up to his potential and exceeded all expectations. That back injury was a crucial moment in his NBA career. He lost all his explosiveness and power. He relied on those attributes in his career. No one was stronger, tougher, nastier, or tenacious than LJ. He had the complete game. He could shoot, post up, had amazing handles and court awareness, he had a variety of moves to use to score, and he was more dominant and so powerful to guard.

    I'm from Vegas born and raised, and I loved the UNLV teams that LJ played on; the teams that one a title one year and was undefeated the next before losing to Duke in and upset during the Final Four. It was cool that Larry was picked first, and won rookie of the year. I was so happy that he became a dominant player averaging 22 10.5. They got Mourning, but LJ had a little bit better numbers and was the leader of that Hornets team. He signs a big contract, and like with so many others, after doing that he gets hurt. He was never the same, even during his last few years with the Hornets. He had a few 19 and 20 ppg seasons, but the rebounding dropped to 8 a game. He wasn't franchise level, anymore and I'm sure the Hornets were hurt to get rid of him, and I know deep down it bugged Larry; however, what can you do? Sad because that second season when Larry averaged 22 and 10 he was an all star and actually beat out Scottie Pippen making the All NBA Second Team, while Pippen was on the Third Team. After that, as I mentioned, Larry was never the same and became a role player in New York once Charlotte traded him. Even I say it, and I hate to say it, because I think Pip is a little overrated sometimes himself; also, as stated above I'm from Vegas, but Pippen had a much better career than LJ. I was upset for many years as a person from Vegas because of his decline, but it is what it is.

    People forget that when Jordan retired the first time, a Pippen led Bulls team won 55 games and were a game away from beating the Knicks who went to the NBA Finals that year, who then lost to the Rockets who won back to back titles. Then the the Rockets added Barkley (better on paper) but lost to the Jazz who peaked too late when Jordan came back to the league. That is parity and a competitive kind of playoff war that we don't have now. Think about it. The Jazz could have won two straight and beat the Rockets who did win two straight Titles. Yet Jordan still dominated a league full of legit championship contenders. Don't forget about the Pacers who took the Bulls to 7 games in the East but were never able to make the Finals. Go back and look at that roster. Then you have the Knicks, like Johnson or not, that roster was stacked. They did make the Finals when Jordan was out playing baseball, but it took craziness to get past the Pacers that year as well. Again they lost to the Rockets.
    Think about that era and all the GREAT players that didn't win Titles because of Jordan. The list is full of greats; Reggie Miller, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, John Stockton and Gary Payton. Funny thing is Stockton was a way better player when he was younger despite his durability. The Jazz never had the payroll or supporting cast back in the late 80s when Stockton was averaging 17 points, 14 assists and pools full of steals. Remember when Wilt Chamberlain said he would start a team with Stockton over Magic? Now, I don't agree but people forget about how damn good these ole' skool dudes were. Barkley went to the Finals in Phoenix and lost to the Bulls. Stockton and Malone lost twice to the Bulls. Ewing made the Finals when Jordan was gone but lost to the Rockets. Gary Payton (the most underrated player ever) got to the Finals with the Sonics and lost to Bulls/Jordan.
    Also there were rivalries (legit ones) back in the day when players would stay with their teams. Think about today. Kevin Durrant is a GREAT player but would he have won a Title if he stayed in OKC and not bolted to a 73 win dynasty?
