im going to say thank you on behalf of all DIY Terrainist out there. You are the FIRST youtube channel that actually tells the user what video to refer to for previous things you have done, instead of just "this is in a previous video" and be done with it.
Thx! In truth I'd prefer to give all the steps, but techniques get re-used so often that every episode would become overly long and repetitive. Appreciate your viewership.
A great secondary use of that fantasy/historical trench design a friend of mine had was to use the ones he’d built as a set of rural roads, with the “walls” being flocked on both sides to make hedgerows! It’s wide enough on the inside to fit the small wagons we’ve made for the minis of our DnD party, and they look fantastic - a great design wyloch!
I really like the look of those metal ones....and the ratio of easy to do vs results is perfect. I need to find a way to alter them to make them usable in my fantasy game
Yeah the slopes of the grass version are pretty steep. Could just do vertical craft sticks, many short ones, to make a sort of fence...Pikes every inch (kebab skewers)?
Great looking trenches. Was thinking of creating a bridge over the trenches for a dried up moat at an abandoned castle keep, or maybe a battlefield swirling in mud and blood as combatants slay each other to gain victory.
I really like these modular trenches. The sci-fi one has a really good industrial look to it and the ground trench one looks very real indeed! The overall look of them is great. Thanks for sharing this and the new site is really helpful with the notes on the lower screen.
This just helped me figure out how I want to handle my starship tile set. My thanks good sir. Should only take me about a hundred years to get the ball rolling (my laziness know no bounds).
The granny grating...I think I am going to try and use that stuff to craft some crude dungeon cells in a goblin cave for my 5e campain. Never thought about using that stuff
I love how simple your process is, I love how good they look with even minimal focus. This is a great video and excellent tutorial, but I'd still offer one critique. In the fantasy variant, with the dirt floor, I would avoid placing the small pebbles inside the trench itself. Historically, these would pose as major tripping hazards for the soldiers, and they would have moved them out of the way themselves very shortly if they weren't already ordered to do so after digging it out. I would consider placing smaller piles against the back edge to simulate this myself.
Wyloch, you're killing me with how good just a few small drops of paint can look when using an airbrush... oh, speaking of which, have you played with templates, and or "masking" from your 3d printer... I too have the mp maker select v2, and some of the raft materials from the latest version of cura look like they would make excellent airbrush templates for creating interesting patterns and such... (need to add airbrush, and compressor to my letter to Santa this year).
Air dry clay seems a bit overkill. A piece of card glued on at a 45* angle would work just a well, [maybe distress the card before attaching it] coated with mod-podge or similar, textured with pebbles and flocked as per video. Or just use a thinner layer of clay over card. Your home made terrain alternatives are great. The cost of such accessories from GW etc are prohibitive, asp if you want to invest in more figures instead. You provide a real service to gamers and I admire all you terrain builders immensely, originality and creativity add to the playing experience. Well done.
Some triangular balsa stock would probably do more to add rigidity to the piece. I think some spackle would be cheaper than air drying clay as well. That's how I would approach this imo.
I love how easy you make this look, makes me feel like I can do it myself! My only question is the chipboard. I'm in the UK and what we call chipboard is particle board/LDF. This looks like MDF or hardboard/HDF? Could you help translate into English (Traditional) for me?
Just curious about your preference; do you prefer wargaming to more RPy ttrpgs now? Not that it's an issue, I'm a high fantasy kind of guy, so the more modern wargame terrain actually works great (setting I'm writing has magical mechs too, so, all your stuff is useful), I'm just curious since a lot of your vids tend to highlight a more wargaming bend (not that it can't easily apply to fantasy as well with some light reskinning; chemical spill could easily be sewer sludge or blood from some necromancer cult's laboratories, etc.). Absolutely love the videos man!
Thanks! Yes at this time in my life wargaming is much easier and I haven't run a D&D session in about a year. I'll be doing an Editorial very soon on why wargaming is so great, and why people who haven't tried it should give it a shot.
It is bugging the mess outta me but how did you get your corners to be angled? Just make the inside pieces of chipboard shorter? Needing some help thanks!

Dig it
one great way to make a ship or a space station interior with the sci fi ones.

Sure! Make sure you also consider these: ruclips.net/video/6PEPI3ENTl4/видео.html
You could use the second trechnique to create modular rivers as well.
Thanks for the community showcase!
Hopped right to the end eh? :-) Awesome work btw
I looked at the techniques you were using for the tiles. Very cool stuff!! I like the idea of the plastic mesh for metal ground :)
The granny grating...I think I am going to try and use that stuff to craft some crude dungeon cells in a goblin cave for my 5e campain. Never thought about using that stuff
It's awesome but you need a few coats of paint because it is slick plastic. Prime it with a matte acrylic or better yet some cheap spray paint.

Those trenches would be great for a Space Hulk game. Nids vs. Space Marines...
Would love to see how you would make some imperial fortress walls
Great looking trenches, lovely details, have to try it!
Really looks amazing Wyloch
Thx
Thanks for posting this video. I used your ideas to come up with a 3d printed trench system, compatible with Star Wars Legion.
Rockin
Good stuff. Been thinking about trying the modelling clay myself.
omg i need to make these now. I've been waiting for this for soooo long it seems haha. Thanks wyloch!
Rockin
Wyloch, you do some excellent work!
Thx!
well done! a tut on that flock would be awesome!

Hmm not sure if I need trench terrain, but guess I gotta make some now haha
Another fantastic idea & video! Thanks!

You mean like a stencil?
Yes, thinking that may be useful for some of the sci-fi army or even camo for similar, could be a team/affiliation, or just random pattern
With how fast these print, you don't want or need much more than 1mm thick, so could be a great way to try out different shapes, etc
I have used tinkercad to model a few basic things, and it's pretty easy...
can you perhaps do a river section =) you're awesome by the way:)
beautiful paintjob
Thanks!
Wow. These are awesome.
Thanks!

Legend! Thank you
Awesome as usual! I did have a question though can you do a river/stream section? If you have I've missed the video :(
Thanks!
So I watched this after watching your industrial walkways video and I want to combine the two so I have a 2 inch locking tab for each piece
Awesome stuff!
Really helpful, turned out great!
Ya Boyzzz rockin
Thanks man, the look great with my tau
Could you use this technique to build a starship corridors and rooms?
Yes but he also has a vid on just corridors and rooms
Just curious about your preference; do you prefer wargaming to more RPy ttrpgs now?

Veru good and simple.
Thanks!
Nice work!!
This is so awesome!!!
Could you do a how to on modular bunkers
Oh snap, this is masterpiece.
Lol not. What games are you into? 40k? If so, you might enjoy this one: ruclips.net/video/nCP6tGBmCNo/видео.html
Wyloch's Crafting Vids Necromunda
Nice tutorial! These trenches look great! Where did you buy the sand and pebbles?
Thx! Michaels. But you could (and should) just buy some construction sand from the home improvment store. $4 for a lifetime supply.
Do you have a video on how to make your own flocking?
Check out time 0:20 on this one:
ruclips.net/video/X-EFc-2hdtk/видео.html
Wyloch's Crafting Vids you are a scholar and a gentleman
you could use the trenches tecnique to make rivers
It is bugging the mess outta me but how did you get your corners to be angled? Just make the inside pieces of chipboard shorter? Needing some help thanks!
Yes, where two walls meet at an angle, you just make the inside chipboard a little shorter.
You may be protractor, but I’m launching a campaign against tractors!
Episode 69 is missing too.
What are the scraps for the fantasy trenches?
Just chipboard.
All hail the You Tube algorithm gods!
Great!
Thanks!
What thickness/type of chipboard do you use?
ruclips.net/video/DyciW6LbUis/видео.html
Thanks!
Great vids but god you paint bill must be huggee
