I just saw a video of SWAT showing up to a recent barricade subject they were wearing shorts what's up with that?
I remember this day. I was in the police academy in Georgia and our instructor started playing this on our classroom TV. I remember how quiet the room was and after it was all said and done, our instructor told us that this was the job.
lol but this really ISN'T the job, at least not 99.9999999% of the time.
Wow!! What a way to begin you journey of LE. How long was you in LE?

Policing isn't even in the top 10 most dangerous jobs. You're glorified meter maids on a power trip.
This day will always be remembered. What a classic shoot out.
One of tge most epic police shhotouts in American history. It
Would make a great based on a true story action movie.
@@LordMalice6d9 there is one though is called 44minutes it’s from 2003
Saw this live. I still can't believe no one died except for the perps.
I always think that . They must have been horrible shots with the full auto AKs thankfully
@@816_ceTheir objective wasn't to kill people but to get away. I think they call it suppressive fire in the military.

Who else agrees Netflix needs to make like A 2-3 part EP documentary about the North Hollywood shooting!
There documentaries have been phenomenal lately!
I remember this like it was yesterday. I was working in a bank not far from where this took place. It was terrifying.

All banks are run by criminals , should happen to every bank everyday
Brutal and timeless incident 😱
I worked in a bank as a teller and was robbed twice. It really does change your life. I am thrilled that you started training with your fellow officers.
I wish you'd had a derringer in your sleeve and shoved it up his nose.
🧢
The bank was robbed, not you. The money is insured, your life isn't. Banks rob entire nations.
Valor at its peak. They should be proud of themselves
The should be proud, it was police doing their job as they should. 2 experienced men with automatic weapons and tons of ammo, vs cops with pistols. Just compare that to Uvalde Where there was numerous cops, armed with AR rifles, who cowered and did nothing while a single person shot children, those cops are a absolute disgrace.
@@-Zevin-this is them going above and beyond the call of duty. The average work day isn’t get in a gunfight with two heavily armed suspects who you can’t even hurt with your bullets because of their armor and continue fighting. It’s just not that. They didn’t even have patrol rifles yet.
NOT EVERYONE can do what you did so I'm sorry Sir, but you are MOST DEFINITELY a hero. Thank you.
@Coke 🤡
@Coke Really? I thought it was MY comment sherlock. GO try someone else bot.
I was there. It was truly surreal. Heard automatic weapons fire en route from more than a mile away.
A mile away is NOT being there.
@@dalehood1846 "en route" Know what that means??
I like how he says he's not a hero.
He's just doing his job.
And that's true. What was he supposed to do? Hide until it's over? He was just doing his job.
Because that's a fact. Nothing made him a hero.
@@titsmagee4469 I hate the word "hero", especially applied people who signed up for jobs they know are dangerous. They're brave for sure, but not a hero.
Way back in the day at school, I had to describe who my hero was for an assignment. I described why the word is just thrown around.

I remember that day. At the time I lived not to far from the incident. I was so scared. That goodness I was at work at that time. Thank you for your service and protection.
I was a teenager when this robbery took place living about 20min from where this took place I remember this changed so many things for LAPD. One deadly Friday for LAPD and the great people of Los Angeles.
I thought for a sec that this guy was the actual RoboCop based on the thumbnail and title!
It's disgusting how the media tries to paint these warriors as bad people.
I presume you are talking about the cops, but then who exactly portrayed the cops involved in this shootout as bad people?
But warriors are at war, not "protecting and serving". Yet they use MRAPs and treat everyone as a hostile enemy, wear the military gear etc.
Cops today are acting like operators. Treating everyone like an enemy. This ain’t Afghanistan or Yemen. lol
I live in San diego but this day I was working in LA I was about 4 blocks away at a liquor store and I seen the helicopter and it was on the TV at the store very scary 🙏
I remember that day. So much going on. Everyone was worried about the people in the bank and the officers. The officers had to go down the street to borrow guns as the ones they had were ineffective. Today LAPD has so many more resources such as robots, drones and shields to help them without putting officers in arms way. Additionally, working for the bank for 30 years, banks don't keep thousands and thousands of dollars at the bank. Most transactions are via ATM, credit cards or online (PayPal or vermo).
Ya. The police using robots to blow people up should scare you, not be applauded.
The only thing the LAPD Needs to change that will upgrade and help their Department are shoulder-mics. LAPD needs to throw away those handheld radios!
@@Texial I agree, but sadly, they most likely will never do that
Did you just find a random image of a machine gun on the Internet? The HK MG4 wasn't even seen publicly until 2001....
MW2 MG4 explosive rounds
The officer is so humble and faced a perilous situation that day head on. I was only 10 yo, but I remember this on KTLA nightly news. He reminds me of my dad. I’m sure he has kids.
Thank you for your service officer!
This is some real GTA stuff
I remember that day. Even though I lived in Northern California at the time I was glued to the television set. God Bless the Heroes of that day 🙏🙏🙏
I remember watching this live
Wow! Scary stuff.
I remember watching this on live TV while sitting on a recliner at my cousins house in Baton Rouge. I was trying to figure out what to do with my life at the time. Lol
What did you do with your life if i may ask? Any career you recommend for a 23yr old tired of concrete work
Respect feels even better.
Police officers had to go to a local gunshop to get rifles cus they didnt have that fire power back then
This incident, Columbine, and 9/11 militarized local PD’s nationwide in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. Cops were used to revolvers and a 12 gauge before those incidents.
“We don’t choose to be heroes, it just happens sometimes”
I wonder what the ‘Defund the Police’ crowd would say about this?
💪TBL💪
I remember when this happened. I was serving a subpoena a block away and had no idea what was going on. I kept thinking it was going to end soon but it continued for way longer than I anticipated. The LAPD had to go to a local gun store for ammo and weapons. That event is what made the LAPD think twice about their choice of 9mm firearms and shotguns being the only weapons they carried. They are now armed much better and would probably destroy those two individuals much quicker and with less injured personnel.
You, Officer Massa, may not accept that you’re a hero but you are. And all the other officers that put their OWN lives on the line to protect civilians, are hero’s too. ❤️
And they say we don't need high capacity mags 😂
This more than anything made LAPD and LASD realize truly that if Los Angeles wants to chew them up and spit them out, the city can in a heartbeat and there will be little other than the air national guard that would save em.
I will watch the North Hollywood Shootout again tonight for the 20th time.
Love the original LAPD SWAT.
I was just saying Netflix needs to make a documentary on the North Hollywood shoot out robbery
We just were stationed In Seal Beach Weapon station; when I watched this Live.. saw everything. As a girl from Albuquerque NM I had never seen anything like it. Saw what 😳 that Larry guy did when he was cornerd. Yes it was loco big time. Thank the Lord it wasn't worst as these guys were going to fight to the end you could see it! Never forget that day.
I remember it well. It was shocking! 😟

He was a badass in his younger days. Much respect to this officer Massa.
I didnt know that cow could still be milked! -Amazing
This shootout single handly changed the way police are armed and are more prepared
i remember uniformed officers made a move to the local gun shop to acquire heavier firepower
No you’re hero even though you don’t accept it. Thanks for your service.
I remember watching that the cop's where so brave even though they were so out gunned respect to all on that day..🙏
Thank-you sir for the years of service and for offering your knowledge to help others!!

Now all cops look like they just got off or are going to the battlefield.
My neighbors brother was the cop who showed up in his underwear 😂
I remember. I worked one block away. B of A was my branch. We had to shut down and shelter. Horrible. 😢
Oh no you had to stop work early 😮😢
This was terrifying to watch unfold live on TV ,the fire power these guy’s had was incredible and compared to the police all I thought was my god they’re going to kill all of them ! It’s true the cops never gave up kept after them until they were ☠️.
“44 Minutes” by Megadeth
Leaving out the fact that a local gun store gave lapd officers high power scoped hunting rifles.
HEROES, plain and simple.
Eleven years after the Miami FBI shootout, it seems law enforcement still didn’t understand the situation regarding being outgunned in a firefight. Long live the memories of special agents Dove and Grogan.
Back in the day when people supported our cops and there was actually some law enforcement here in Los Angeles. Now it’s lawlessness and chaos.
The crime rate was much higher back then lol
@@slickrick2420 well yes when you make illegal things legal crime drops weird

The nameless patrol officers are the heroes of that day. They wrecked the robbers plans. Put pressure on them which led to their demise.
I wasn’t even alive then but heard about this
Watched it live on fold on TV it was almost like a TV movie
Guy looks like Lt. Murphy from the original Robocop when he was younger
One would think after such an event that police officers across the country would not want just anyone to have access to those weapons.
I think this event is what started the conversations about making some weapons unavailable to regular citizens. Nothing ever changed in that regard but it did start a conversation.
Watching this on 9/12. The day after 9/11. That's crazy
A sad story may the victims rest in peace
No one died except for the robbers....
@@unrealdream88 that was incredible. I think 1,200 rounds were fired, yet only the bad guys died!

This was the bank robbery that was the inspiration for the movie Heat with De Niro and Pacino..
Heat was filmed 3 years before this happened.
Maybe that movie inspired these guys to rob banks
@@Hyp3blox movies are shot a year or 2 before they are released. The delay is because of post production (editing etc)

2 guys never figured in getting shot in the ankles

They were not trained
They were under influence of drugs

Remember well. I thought officers did not have AR’s until the end when SWAT arrived but I see an officer with an AR in the clip where someone is being treated at the 3 min mark of this video, unless this is not actual footage of incident. Don’t remember seeing any previously & I’ve watched all this footage many times.
L.A swat team the best in the nation, and one of the best world wide.
so true
I saw this live when it happened recorded it on VHS, Sadly my sister recorded over it 😢
My mother was here i would have been three years old and still live near this area.
TRIVIA : Many people believed including the police that the Robbers were amped up on uppers meth/speed when in fact they were on downers sedated with Phenobarbital ! And Incidentally the Family of one of the Robbers Sued the L.A.P. D. For letting one of them Bleed out in the back of the Ambulance by delaying him treatment ! .
He bled out + suffered where he fell over a period of 70 minutes. Cops allowed this to happen by creating the lie that there may be a 3rd suspect although there was no evidence for this.
I remember that case
La Paz Reina!
2A infringements did jack squat to make things safer and prevent this from happening.
None the less, as a nephew of a late LAPD officer, I respect the determination of the brave men of the Los Angels Police Department who, despite being out gunned, demonstrated unwavering determination to neutralize the suspects.
Your precious 2A rights have NEVER been infringed upon. Unless you count the states that don't require a gun owner to have the training that the 2A explicitly states you must have.
whats hilarious is the only deaths were the 2 bank robbers
C’était une sacré fusillade a l’époque
The last thing he wanted was to see him in court. They watched him bleed out for twenty minutes. Good riddance.
It was 70 minutes!
So you believe that cops have the right to beat up suspects + let them die?
Playing cops and robbers is adrenaline filled but not fun.
And today LA is still a dump
But it’s bidens fault right?
I am so glad the good guys go home and the bad guys are gone.
Did the officer recover though?
Yes, he did.
How can you forget this those bank robbers was ready for war
the movie swat use this at the opening
Woah what an incredible story. I didnt the gta mission was real 😳
that shoot out changed many lives, I remember it like it was yesterday.
how they armored up, had some armor Piercing rounds, a ton of ammo, AK-47's and hand guns, body armor, and a false sense of entitlement
these guys were crazy, they planned this out for a long time. they injured a ton of people officers and civilians alike
if the officers didn't get weapons that were better caliber than what they had at the moment more people would surely have died as a result of this insane situation.
it was if I remember correctly gun stores that were giving officers weapons of a higher caliber . because they were clearly out gunned
but not out numbered
Better caliber? 7.62x39 is without a doubt one of the best calibers for the range they were engaging at. Melts through a car like a hot knife through butter and soft body armor has no chance.
Texas L.E.O. take a lesson on Courage.
I remember this day. I was on break. Me and my trainee got on scene, fired 4 shots each and the gun fight ended soon after. We didn’t get much action we were too busy eating donuts
prehistoric case
I remember this day. Watched this live with a group of strangers huddled around a tv in a gas station. Ppl were screaming f the police lol its a crazy world
Matt Serra brought me here
Wasn't the first SWAT team created in the mid-60s? And the first LAPD SWAT in the late 60s?
This Comment has been taken down several times and I'm taking video of it being taken.
Police actually let him bleed to death and prevented ambulance to help the shooter !
