I just love what you do with wood on a lathe, I would like to see you work your magic on white oak, I am having a time with the grain on oak, can you help me?
I don't buy Oak as I have an allergic reaction to it. I have turned it in the past. The lid for my three tiered lidded jewellery box. It is wood similar to pine, which I have done a series on, using my Standard Type 3 Chisel Set. The pores are very open. You can't scrape it. I am currently putting up videos, a series of videos on pine again. Check these out. If you would like to send me some White Oak, I would happily turn it for you, in a video.
Welcome to the channel. I have done a Woodpecker and Hummingbird. Here are the links. ruclips.net/video/vhm10wZSIZg/видео.html ruclips.net/video/wb8sbrk_AUY/видео.html ruclips.net/video/jHysjbLh-no/видео.html
Thank you. Welcome to the channel. Thanks for subscribing. It helps the channel to grow. I don't measure the majority of time. Most of my turnings are one off turnings. I turn off the cuff. Just check the body against the head you are turning to make sure it doesn't look too big/small for the body. Just measured it and the head including beak is 2 1/2 inches. Let us know how you got on, if you do turn one.
Great video guys. I’ll be turning a few of these later with my recently purchased carbide chisels. Sorry to have to correct you but according to wiki a group of woodpecker is called a descent. One of my favourite group names is giraffes which is a tower. Keep up the good work Toodle pip
@@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca5308 on the contrary, please do not minimise the lathe sound. It is important to listen to the sound of the lathe to understand things like the speed you are turning or vibrations or anything that helps us get a better understanding when trying to do the same as you do. Thanks for your videos, always inspiring 👍
Cheers Glen and Liza think you're videos are brilliant and never too long

Yes, great for the kids to get involved with.
Thanks for two things, 1 the information, great as always, 2, leaving the little catch in.
Everyone gets catches but I leave them in so you can see how to deal with them.
Liza did a good job with the painting.
Yes she did. Just to give you an idea of the different ways to do the birds.

But do you know the difference between a giraffe and an articulated lorry? One has hydraulics and the other has high bull...cks. Lol
Great tuning, what wood do you used?
Thank you Kenneth. Welcome to the channel. It was Ash.
You are flocking wrong it's a decent lol
Love your videos. Wish you could minimize the lathe sound. It would make your dialogue much better. Lathe overwhelms your voice.
It's because I'm wearing a powered face shield as well. I will NOT turn without one. My safety is most important.
