Never heard of them? Me neither still last year. That's cause our only classic rock station plays maybe 50 bands songs over and over and over again and won't let anybody else in. I wish the best dream I had would start a radio station and play all these L.P.'s you've sent me. I would listen all day! Great discoveries! It's been fun! What great talent in the late 60's and 70's! Thanks! Keep em coming!

Yeah, licensing is pretty expensive. For the stations it's safe to work with majors and pay stupid money for music they think people like (but don't know any other). They don't gamble or experiment. Gladly there are exceptions as well but this channel is supreme entertainment!

Radio Nova is the Classic Rock Station(CRS) here in lreland, and it's the same rigid playlist with plenty of 80s pop interspersed, actually very rare to hear songs from the 60s and 70s been played🙄! It started off OK back in 2010, but has deteriorated ever since, they have been captured by the accountants looking for a broader market(numbers) and the niche markets the advertisers are fond of, hence the music is diluted and it is quiet jarring to listen too.👂🤪Add in their constant adverts stating how cool they are and there willingness to play off track songs, which is ALL false advertising, it isn't good fot the blood pressure😳!

Think about the bands that were around. 1970-72. This lead guitarist, Rainer Baumann is smokin' EVERY geetar god of the time. Keyboardist, Jean-Jacques Kravitz does, too. They are melodic, not using any gimmicky lead playing, like fast, repitious arpeggios to wow an' fluff. They are real musicians. Carsten Bohn is a fine drummer. The rest of the band, too. The Bach riff is a wink to us with a music background.
I wonder if the well known musicians at the time were aware of these folks? As an American, I assume Europeans had regional, multi-country knowledge of bands, and muscians of muscians. We had two very different systems.
Europe kicked our asses for the number of great muscians and groups.

Frumpy,s self entitled debut was brought back from Germany for me in '72 . Loved it ." Frumpy 2 "was even better and the "live " album was the icing on the cake . Also keyboard player solo album "Kravetz "which also featured all of Frumpy was a fine album . All worth checking out for lovers of heavy rock , long tracks and extended keyboard and guitar solos . Plus the great vocals of lnga Rumpf a really underated front woman and singer .

When one thinks of great female singers who fronted bands in the late sixties to early 70s, Grace Slick and Janis Joplin immediately cone to mind. They are the obvious choices. However, the greatest talent was a mind-blowing, soulful alto with silken hair the color of the setting sun. She plied her trade in West Germany with a voice that could’ve been plucked from some backwater whiskey joint in the Mississippi Delta. Hers was the first and last name of blue-eyed soul. Inga Rumpf. Once you hear her, there’s little more to be said.

Bands such as Frumpy Eloy Birth Control Jane etc... were completely shut out of the American rock music market.... it's unfortunate because these bands were very talented & deserved to reach the American audience...

Once upon a time, DJs could pick their own damn music. Now they play to the "lowest common denominator" - the music that the largest amount of people enjoy. Anybody remember Beaker Street, KAAY AM, out of little Rock, Arkansas? Once the local stations went off the air, we could here it all the way up here in Wisconsin. First underground rock station ever. 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. and where I first learned what "deep cuts" meant. Remember hearing the Doors' "When the Musics's Over" for the first time and being totally blown away. Still my favorite Doors song.

Usually it seems the reverse is true but in the case of Frumpy they sounded better , l think , on their live albums than their studio ones. I tend to shy away from comments saying "....sounds like or ( or of the same caliber as Janis Joplin's vocals " ) ,as stated about this female vocalist. This gal Ingrid's vocal prowess stands alone, surely , unlike others who lamely try to ride Janis' coattails to glory . Bah, Humbug ! Later she went on ( along with a few other members ) from Blues/Rock to more Jazz/Prog oriented music in a group called Atlantis. Their second lp as Atlantis is much better than the first in this man's opinion.

Some time has passed from the previous comments. But as said, this has pretty much to do with the essence of performing arts. How close to the listener this band and the vocalist are with their tools, not being afraid, just coming out, bursting out that feeling on top of everything, taking risks. This you rarely hear with all the technology polishing the human factor away or cleaning it up to level that is not human anymore.

THe keyboard player masters his solos completely, a wide head. The live mix is awesome and clean , the energy is live and fresh as well. What a night!

My babe was born in 1972 in Norge, so it peaked my curiosity to find out more about a band I'd never heard of before, and I am a big classic rock fan... This is great! Yes indeed! Joplin hung everything on her growly scream. She was a one trick pony. It was like in every song she could tell they never had juice (creativity and musicianship) to make a song work. So she'd do her wail and the audience would buy it up.
Frumpy's got levels an' levels of talent and musicianship. I was 15 in 1970. Glad that 50 years later Frumpy found me. These guys are the real thang!
Ya think of all the junky albums ya bought over the years, and finding these guys almost makes up for it. The reasons for obscurity are many. It truely is sad that we didn't know the individuals in this great band. The further I get into the album, the more impressed I am. There are NO KLINKERS, none on this disc. Obscure bands usually get a " that's kinda interestin' nod". And have one exceptable tune. This is an incredible album!
