    3rd time's the charm i guess:
    Judging from the bacon tracks, the pioneer tools, the molded headlight guards and that long rear armor plate on the upper hull, (and the fact that they're relatively inexpensive and everywhere), I'm willing to bet what you have there is the Tamiya 1/35th scale M3 Lee, first released in 1974, Stock No. 35039.

      I was thinking/thunking it to be around 1;32nd to 1;36th, and I know next to schaff-hausen information technology (think about it, ..) about model brands; apart from some older ones are best left alone.
      For some reason I had a thought, if not a Tamiya kit, it being a Dragon or a Revell was bubbling around the top of my brain/gut.

      Well, rather the TOG than the Baneblade :/
      Because a TOG II model is quite cheap depending on the scaling. A Baneblade Uhhhh.....
      Quite expensive :/ The Imperium of Man doesn't sell their toys of war cheaply. If they do at all.
      So mistakes on the TOG? Cheap to solve or even the replacement of the entire model can be done with no financial effort. The Baneblade.... Entirely different story :/ If you paint the Baneblade wrong the Emperor clutches your nuts into his hawk clawed, powered hands and ever so gently squeezes them tight.

      May I recommend 1/700 HMS Hood.
      Tamiya and Trumpeter make really good kits of it. The Tamiya one is an easier build and comes with an extra kit (E-class Destroyer, decals for HMS Electra), but gives you less detail.
      Trumpeter's kit has some photoetch details included for those super-fine details.

    This was awesome and watch and was a great explanation of the processes and core principles of painting! This makes me really wanna try a first model now.
    If any other seasoned model builders have VERY BEGINNER tips, I'd love to hear them as well!

    • @matthewjohnson9386

      it depends on what your planning to build, tanks and aircraft? look for revell and airfix they are good basic kits with not too much detail. get some good cement like Tamiya Cement its really thin and easy to apply and leaves minimal mess as for paints, look for acrylic paints (MiG paints are some of my favourite) enamel paints are good and have their place but can be tricky to work with.
      and if you want to do a super easy camo pattern get some putty like playdouh or plasticine roll it up into strips and lay it on the model in you desired pattern then paint between the lines this was a game changer for me and is my go to method replicating camo

    • @jundef746
      @jundef746 4 года назад

      @@matthewjohnson9386 Thank you! I'm particularly interested in ships, but they seem harder, so I might start with a tank or plane first instead. I live in a small apartment, are enamel paints safe to use without ventilation? Also, you took that right out of my mind - I was wondering how on earth people painted camo patterns on ship hulls.

    • @matthewjohnson9386
      @matthewjohnson9386 4 года назад +1

      @@jundef746 yea both enamel and acrylic are safe to use indoors just crack a window if the smell is too much and yea ships can be difficult and quite big you could always try a u-boat
      Most tanks are 1:35 scale and they are not too big, planes vary in scale I'd stay away from 1:48 best thing to do their is go to a local model shop find what you like size and model etc

    Jingles, you don't need a pricey airbrush. Just go to Amazon and get this-Master Airbrush Master Performance G233 Pro Set with 3 Nozzle Sets. About $30 U.S. and works as good, if not better than any of the expensive ones. And don't waste money on a airbrush compressor, they cost way to much for something that can only be used for an airbrush. Get a regular small air compressor and you can use it for more than airbrushing if needed.

    US Army Pioneer Tools (shovels, axes, etc.) were painted in OD to protect the metal from rust and to seal the wooden parts. The tanker bar, bolt cutters, etc. would also have been originally painted OD, and some of that paint would still survive even after heavy use.

    I recently saw some film about the Guards Armoured Division (during WW2) and the squaddies were repainting their tanks for the dessert, then for D-Day, with pint brushes, by hand. So a brushed and non-professional finish would be true to fact.

    If you get into more minis, bolt Action and Flames of War are WWII minis games that have a wide plethora of cool things to paint!

    I know I am massively late to this, but the best way to do decals is to put clear gloss where the decals will go, apply the decals once the gloss dries, put another coat of gloss over the decals once the decals dry (24hrs minimum!), and then a coat of clear flat over the top of everything.
    For what it's worth if you don't have a crap brush to abuse, do buy the GW drybrushes. The ones I own have lasted more than 10 years of pretty heavy use. And that well worth the money they cost. I can't say that about the rest of the GW brushes, they don't last very long if you're painting an entire army, maybe 6 months.

    Sir Jingles, O great and holy gnome lord of the salt mines, I know you won't see this but I love your videos. To be honest you're one of only a few things that have been constant in my life for the last seven+ years. I can only hope that someday I would have the privilege to meet you in person and maybe even buy you a beer (I live in the US so that's not likely). I hope you keep doing this for years to come. Sincerely, Aloya L. Minion
