This is unmistakably Rob Hubbard, I’ve always loved this soundtrack, he used some unique FM patches for his soundtracks which are definitely an acquired taste but i love his gritty sound that fit perfectly with Road Rash’s gritty atmosphere and combative gameplay.
Every single time i see a review or someone talking about this game they usually mention of twangy metallic and rough the music of this game sounds, i usually agree, just from memory alone, because i remember the game sounding a little bit too rough... But when i actually sit down and listen to it, holy hell! This ost is metal as hell! From now on i'm not letting anyone else remember stuff for me, they probably will remember it wrong and misinform my own opinion. THIS OST AND GAME ROCKS!!!
RR is one of those hard GEMS soundtracks like Chakan and Comix Zone that you HAVE to hear on an actual console. Emulated versions sound much harsher than intended, which keeps feeding into the "HURR GENESIS MUZAX SUX" misconception.
@@NucleaRaptorRoad Rash does not use GEMS, it uses the custom driver programmed by Rob Hubbard, no game developed internally by Electronic Arts uses GEMS (Remember that EA used its own development kits), all of them use custom drivers depending on the sound programmer of each game.
This soundtrack is definitely an acquired taste but o absolutely love it and it sounding “rough” is one of its endearing qualities as it fits in the rough n ready and violent racing.
And not only that, this was recorded on a model 1 Genesis that sounds better than even Dustin’s upload as this game was the designed for a model 1 Genesis or Mega Drive.
Your Genesis 1 is an VA0, VA1, VA2, VA3, VA4, VA5, VA6 or VA7 revision? The VA0, VA1 and VA2 have a more distorted audio, the VA3 and VA4 are the cleanest, VA5 and VA6 have a little low-pass and VA7 is extremely muffled. From what I can hear, this sounds like an VA3 or VA4 revision. Am I right?

Love this game. I had the pleasure of playing it on my PC back when I was 10 or 11 years old.
finally is it, hardware road rash, so tired of emulated sound version of this series on other channels
