- Agar is quite simple when dealing with non-selective media. Standard 2% gelling and nutrient strength are all that are required to produce healthy fungal colonies. Amending with peptones, yeasts, etc, is not necessary but if that's your thing, to each their own; for most of us this will be all you'll ever need:
for a sleeve of 25 @ 2% concentration:
600ml distilled h20
12g agar
12g Dry malt extract
for a sleeve of 20 @ 2% concentration:
400ml distilled h20
8g agar
8g Dry malt extract
Sterilization times are bioburden and volume-dependent. The larger the volume, the longer the exposure, the "dirtier" the liquid, the more time required to sterilize.
45 minutes for 1L and under will ensure that all solids have been uniformly dissolved into the water, and is a cheap insurance policy against potential failure.
Excellent step by step, list of ingredients, everything I need to know. I need to get into agar but have been uncertain how to start. These videos take all that uncertainty away. Thanks!
Glad it helped.
PLentiful of advice here thank you sir for the videos. Learning a lot!
My pleasure 🙏
THanks a got damn lot for this video it taught me everything I need:)
Glad to hear.
"Shake the fk out of it" yeah way to emulsify your mix lol.
Stir bar works wonders if your lucky enough to have one with a stir plate.
No need to shake at all, the PC will take care of everything.
Thank you. I hope a translation into Arabic is available❤
Hey mate. If I used this method, can I use my instapot pressure cooker like for grain, and just do it longer? or is 60 min also enough in this situation as well?
45 minutes is plenty for liquids.
Another question. I just got my malt, but must have misread it as it is liquid malt extract. I am just going to experiment making plates, but do you have a recommendation on how much to use if I was doing the same as your video here?
I've not used liquid so just play with the ratios to see what works best.

So should I warm my plates to get them close to my Agar temp before I pour to help prevent condensation? I try to pour around 44-47c and get my plates to the same temp, but I still keep getting fucking condensate
The room you're pouring in will always be cooler than the interior of the plates, so you'll get condensation.
@StipeCap Yes but how do YOU get rid of the condensation? I've been just doing my pours and leaving the lids on without wrapping under my flow hood because I do find the the plates breathe some. Then the next day I'll wrap them. I don't like my method though.
I find that the condensate can really decrease the quality of my cultures.
@jamestraylor2162 I pour, then leave unwrapped in flow for an hour or two, then wrap the entire stack with a verticle row of cling wrap.
I show how to in another video. Any remaining condensation clears up in a week or so.
Thank you Stipe for the clarification. I've watched all your videos and read all your main posts on Shroomery. I've used all your recommendations and everything works. Thanks man
@jamestraylor2162 Glad to have been of assistance. Thanks for your support, brotha.
I usually pour sleeves of blanks well in advance, they're crystal clear by the time I need them.
Found em! Your cost over one hundred bucks for gods sake..:P
