Funfact no.4: Wilbur Cobb was originally going to be named Raymond Spum, but it would've triggered a lawsuit from Spumco. Funfact no.5: Wilbur Cobb is just Games' version of George Liquor
My favorite episode from Season 3. As well as the Games Animation era :) And it's also one of the more better-animated episodes from this period, which helps that Bob Camp directed it!
As someone who wants to be an animator, I always found this episode a bit refreshing as while it is comedic and exaggerated, there is truth to it so it also tells me what is and isn't a healthy working relationship. And the ironic part is that it's animated and choreographed well
My personal favorite Season 3 episode. The scenes at the beginning are pretty funny and reminds me a lot of Season 2 and it's fun animation. All of the animator abuse isn't shoved in your face, but it isn't subtle either. The use of no dialogue or sound effects in most of it really adds to it. Wilbur kinda drags it down, but Stimpy's cartoon saves it in the end. 10/10.
Another thing that you need to remember is that John K hated cartoon producers, which he called "Morons" that couldn't draw cartoons. I think what happened was, John wrote the episode to make fun of them and then when he was kicked off the show, the guys at Games studio changed it to make fun of John K.
John knew everything, he didn't have a problem with the fact that Ren was supposed to be himself in this cartoon , John's name is there at the beginning of the episode, It's utter nonsense that the Games era creators doesn't like John, Chris Reccardi loved and respected John and the others too .. nowadays nobody knows anything, and every blind fan is think they must have hated John.. After John's dismissal, many games animators including Reccardi asked John about his ideas that the new episodes are also successful
I just realized now that not only that Ren is John K, but I think that Wilber Cobb could actually be Ralph Bakshi. Kind of an unflattering depiction of him, but it kind of makes sense since Ralph was John's old boss and is known for his gruff behavior and huge size. The Games staff probably didn't have a high opinion of either of them when they made this show.
but it kind of makes sense Wilber Cobb could actually be Ralph Bakshi ?? Bruh no ! You are wrong dude the Fire Chief is Ralph Bakshi It seems you don't know the theme of the show. Cobb doesn't even look and act like Bakshi ( Just checkd the Fire chief It was modeled after Bakshi, John even admitted it don't jump to conclusions without looking things up
The Games staff probably didn't have a high opinion of either of them ? Another illogical distortion .. the Games era, didn't even know who Ralph Bakshi was because Bakshi never worked for the Games era ..Bakshi was john's boss in the 80s, he didn't follow john later into the Ren and Stimpy show in the 90s
Kricfalusi explained that when he showed the original outline to Nickelodeon, they hated how it made fun of them. He then said he tricked them by saying the executive Ren was supposed to be himself. It was a trick he said, but he claimed that Games took it literally. He did admit that the way Ren rejected Stimpy's storyboard is how he'd review storyboards on his projects.
Maybe, but John. K is definitely not a trust worthy guy so the might of lied to make the Games (animation) crew look dumb (or at least exaggerated the truth).
@@Randomlad.0737 Still, given how he has such an abuse of power when he was in charge, it’s no wonder Ren and Stimpy has a scheduling issue prior to the Games Animation seasons.
It looks like they drew ren with gloves at 4:16. Also in the Spumco version Ren would have been an executive,it's also said in the dvd commentary that this bit at 5:32 was a joke on bob camp.
Usually it's more like 12 drawings per second if you shoot a drawing twice, and you only need 24 drawings per second for really fast actions. In anime it's more like 8 drawings a second, and 12 for fast haha
13:39: She said “Peg Pelvis Pete”; obviously the name is a reference to Disney’s Pegleg Pete, but the character and voice is more like Bluto from Segar’s “Thimble Theatre (starring Popeye the Sailor)”.
Stimpy is a good animator and Poopie is a funny character. Rockos Modern Life would do an episode like this a year later called Wacky Deli. I would love to see someone do a RML retrospective btw. This episode is pretty good so I give it a 7/10. They would reuse the Wilber Cobb character to death in later episodes but here he’s funny.
@@NateTheGnat You know, Ralph Bighead becoming Rachael Bighead really is Rocko’s fault, when you think about it: Rachael didn’t wanted to be remembered as the guy who took credit for a cartoon he didn’t create.
It's good; I do like the process of Stimpy's cartoon being made, it's nice when a cartoon can let the visuals tell the story, and the final product was fun. I just feel there wasn't enough of progression to Ren being a selfish jerk and that whole part with Wilber Cobb rambling on for minutes was obviously filler. I'll give it a 7/10. I like it, but I wouldn't say that its a favourite of mine.
Ren being too mean seemed to be a consistency after the Spumco era. He feels like precussor to the likes of flanderized Peter Griffin and Mr Krabs where they're just trying way too hard to make him a detestable scumbag. It at least kinda makes sense within the context of this episode however since he's meant to be lampooning what the creative team suffered from John K.
@@Randomlad.0737 Jokes about him 'just getting into the role' could have been funny. He does noticably return to normal during the second half where they chat with Cobb.
And that's my biggest issue with the episode, it's just weird how Ren went from being bossy/aggressive with a short-fuse to calm and patient when they met Wilber Cobb. Again; Ren changes in each Games era episodes, either he's already angry or insane with out any build up or a reason or he's just a another random character that happens to be one of the main characters.
I like Stimpy's cartoon show because it shows how they made Ren and Stimpy❤
Memories 🎶
I think it was the glasses that Ren was wearing that was similar to the glasses John K. Wore . I think that is how they used him to parody John.

That seems very ironic for this episode to be digitally animated.

I think that Wilbur Cobb was & is a really senile, but mobese portrayal of Dave Fleischer, infamously known for his f’d-up oral history.
