Love Agalloch, wasn't expecting to see them again so soon on your channel! Very pleasant surprise.
Thanks for listening Jim! It's Ryan. I feel you on the vocals and the speed. I think what I like most about this band is the atmosphere they create. The mix of black metal vocals, folk metal inspiration, with occasional cleans, some acoustic guitar, the way different songs connect. Overall, it just epitomizes a bleak, yet still beautiful winter. This band is from the spacious and cold Northwest in the US, so I imagine them writing this in that kind of environment.
As an avid Agalloch fan of over 15 years, your reactions to their music are making me re-appreciate the intricacies and beauty of certain little moments I might miss or take for granted after all these years.
Absolutely can’t wait for the rest of the album. I hope you do Marrow of the Spirit🤞🏽
Love me some Agalloch! Falling Snow might be my favorite Agalloch song! Great stuff Jim
If you want to hear more of that ‘western themed’ style. Listen to Untamed Land. The album is called ‘Like Creatures Seeking Their Own Forms’. Truly amazing.
Yes! More agalloch is always good. Hoping you'll do their debut, Pale Folklore, at some point.
Would also love to see you listen to Ordinary Corrupt Human Love by Deafheaven. You listened to a live version of the track Honeycomb, which is fantastic, but the record as a whole is just sublime.
Cheers
This is my second favorite from Agalloch, behind The Mantle. Not Unlike the Waves was one of your favorites from my first World of Metal mix.
That "theme from a Western" sound is the Ennio Morricone influence that's in a lot of their songs. 😁 They've cited him as an inspiration.

@@damiankarras Thanks for the suggestion. Listened to the first two tracks so far and they're pretty good!
@@MaraxisArcanist The Final track is breathtaking
Love this band. My favourite is actually their debut. It’s very raw and rough around the edges, and not always recorded all that well, but that is part of its charm in a way. It’s a beautiful album.
Have you ever listened to Fall Of Rauros album Hail Wind And Hewn Oak? Not exactly similar but very neofolk influenced and raw like the Agalloch debut
Really like this album, especially after the first two songs (which, I like but feel a little out of place with the rest of the album IMO).
I bet youd love Intestine Baalism
Good evening Jim,
The name of the band makes me fear the worst but you’ll never know.
The start of the first song is very promising. Nice intersection with acoustic guitar. So far I like this a lot. A dark wall of sound with tiny flowers growing on it.
But then, as I already feared, the bloody growling starts and I stop listening.
Oh well, enough other music that I can enjoy.
Until next time Jim.
