One of my favorite albums. we used to listen to it in our room, in college. whenever Rain would come on, we would all stop talking and just listen. still one of my favorite songs
Dave Byron a great singer
Very underrated
Every single time I listen to this album, it reminds me, yet again, of just how great -- how truly, truly great -- I am.
Ken Hensley was UU secret weapon
Backing singer, guitarist and keyboard player
Very versatile
Heep forever ❤❤❤ Thank you Mr. Jim 🇺🇲🎸
What a great album!!!!!!!!! And that artwork…
Roger at his best!👍😎
My favorite hard rock album of the '70s. I was 15 when I first heard this. Glad you're enjoying it, Jim!
Absolutely loved the long version of the magicians birthday
Excellent album, superb musicianship and recording✨ and still going strong👍 Also worth noting between 1970-1972 this was their 5th studio album, outstanding!
My favourite is still the "Demons and Wizards" album.
My favorite is "Look At Yourself", especially side two.
Good evening Jim,
I know this album very well and already for a long time.
Great album and you’ll love it.
Demons and wizards is even better imho.
Hey Jim! UH!! Great album. I've had this album for decades. Love it and I'm sure you will too! Enjoy my friend. 👍😎
Thx Jim, I had never heard this album. My experience with UH was Demons & Wizards and Sweet Freedom.
Looking forward to this. I've definitely never listened to a full UH album and I'm pretty sure I only know 3-4 UH songs. Definitely a band I've overlooked.
This album and Close to the Edge by YES came out within a month of each other. I probably bought them both at the same time at our small town local record store. This era of music was the greatest ever!🤩
Hi Jim! Blind Eye dual guitars sounds very Wishbone Ash, just to confuse things more, Wishbone Ash had a song called Blind Eye from their first album but it was a different song. Well deserved album of the month!
I like that when you introduced Blind Eye, you almost poked yourself in the eye with your glasses. Also didn’t Wishbone Ash also have a track with dual guitars called Blind Eye
Exceptional bass guitar work from Gary Thain throughout - if ever there was an under-rated bassist it was him.
David Byron, Ken Hensley, Gary Thain, Lee Kerslake and Mick Box was the best line up for this fantastic Band.
Album cover by Roger Dean!
It sure is!
Uriah Heep❤
Side 2 is a better than Side 1 imo, maily because of Sweet Lorraine !! RIP all those mentioned save for Mick Box, he's still rocking Uriah Heep even today. A very "Uriah Heep" album this one, sounds a rather obvious thing to say, but back in the 70's it was "comforting" as well, not bad, not exceptional. You could just spin the disc and know what to expect.
Sunrise 🌝 what a great song to start into the week 😆 this is one of my 2 favourite Uriah Heep LPs, 2nd is Demons and Wizards.
But this one has my favourite Uriah Heep song : The Magicians Birthday .... I'm wondering how much you will like it 🤔🤘
Love this album although Demons is still my favourite Heep album. David Byron one of the greatest voices in rock. Rain is a perfect song
Producer Gerry Bron: "At that point they were under pressure. I was very careful to try and make an album at a regular interval, and they were touring and, you know, there was a lot of things going on. I think it was very hard for them to make a better album... I think 'Magician's Birthday' was an attempt to recapture 'Demons and Wizards' and it almost did it, but I think it failed a little bit. It was quite a successful album."
Liked this one alot way back in the day. Got to see them after it's release, and just before the next one- Sweet Freedom, came out. They played 4-5 tracks from is as a teaser. Probably their last great one as they went downhill from there (for me at least). Have you reacted to Look At Yourself yet,Jim? THat and Demons & Wizards are the top of the Heep. ;-) Cheers, T
Gary thain came from New Zealand, died of electric shock
