I just got a Daiwa BG 5000 for sturgeon here on Lake Superior. It has handled amazing. I have it paired with multicolor J-Braid 80lb test. It has reeled in sturgeon close to 6 feet long with ease, didn't feel any strain or difficulty. The BG's can take a lot of abuse and still perform amazing. Nothing but praise for em!
The Daiwa BG MQ and Daiwa BG SW are both popular spinning reel models from Daiwa, designed for saltwater fishing, but they have some distinct differences primarily centered around their design, construction, and intended use: 1. **Monocoque Body (MQ) vs Standard Body**: - **Daiwa BG MQ**: Features Daiwa's Monocoque (MQ) body design. This design uses a larger single-piece body which allows for larger internal gears and enhanced strength and durability without increasing the body size. The MQ body is also more watertight due to fewer openings. - **Daiwa BG SW**: This model uses a more traditional body design which is robust but may not provide the same level of internal space or tight sealing against saltwater as the MQ body. 2. **Gear Design**: - **Daiwa BG MQ**: Employs larger gears due to the extra space provided by the MQ body, which often results in smoother operation and potentially better durability. - **Daiwa BG SW**: Uses standard sized gears which, while effective and tough, might not offer the same level of smoothness as the larger gears in the MQ model. 3. **Drag System**: - Both models come equipped with strong drag systems, suitable for battling large saltwater fish, but the MQ model might offer a slightly improved drag performance due to newer technology and design enhancements. 4. **Overall Size and Weight**: - **Daiwa BG MQ**: Generally, the MQ design allows for a lighter and more compact reel compared to traditional designs with the same or increased internal capacity. - **Daiwa BG SW**: Might be a bit bulkier and heavier due to the traditional design, though this does not necessarily affect its performance negatively. 5. **Price Point**: - **Daiwa BG MQ**: Tends to be priced higher than the BG SW due to its advanced construction and technology. - **Daiwa BG SW**: Offers a more affordable price point, making it a popular choice for anglers who want reliable performance without the higher cost. 6. **Intended Use**: - Both reels are designed for saltwater fishing, but the BG MQ’s enhanced features might make it more suitable for anglers who demand higher performance and durability, especially in harsh saltwater environments. - The BG SW is a solid choice for everyday anglers who need reliability and performance at a more moderate price. In summary, if you're looking for a high-end reel with the latest technology and are willing to invest a bit more, the Daiwa BG MQ is a great choice. If you prefer a more traditional reel that still offers excellent performance but at a lower cost, the Daiwa BG SW would be a suitable option.

I have 4 BG. Thinking about getting BG MQ for inshore fishing. Then I saw this BG SW.
