Range Report: Girsan MC 14T (.380 Clone of a Beretta 80 Series with Tip-Up Barrel)

  • In this Range Report I take a look at a really cool copy or clone of a Beretta 80 Series pistol chambered in .380, but unlike the Berettas this pistol has a tip-up barrel. This pistol is the model MC 14T by Girsan. The build quality seems good, however I did have a few issues with both the reliability and take down of the firearm. This video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences with this pistol. Yours may vary.

    I just bought an MC14T about a month ago and love it. I have only had a couple of feed problems with it but have discovered it was the ammo I was using . With the correct ammo there have been no more feed problems.

    I have a Beretta Mod 86.Very few were made and imported into the U.S. The only advantage the MC 14T brings is the double stack mag and 5 extra rounds other than that they are basically the same pistol. Good Video.

    As far a complete takedown and cleaning. This gun was made for that demographic. I bought one, because at 72, my hand lessened strength and lack of ability to rack the slide of my previous carry pistol. Most people who buy this will probably put very few rounds through it, or even carry it. It will probably be a bedside gun for most of the elderly and women who buy one.

    It's more of a copy of the Beretta 86 because of its tip-up barrel. Very few Beretta 86s were made. If you can find one, they command premium prices. That makes the Girsan MC14T a good bargain, if you want an easy- to- load tip-up barrel because you have difficulty racking the slide on Beretta 84s and 85s due to old age, or other hand strength issues.

    Professional analysis is always important. This gun might have been the most accurate gun on the market. You would simply have to add a small soloist at the end of the barrel to the rear sight and place it on top of the aforementioned soloist, in such a way that the sights are fixed on the barrel. It would be necessary to put a polygonal barrel and a nail extractor is also essential. Without a doubt the remarkable design of the tilting gun could have easily been perfected and made perfect. It is understood that the wonderful Beretta gunsmiths were not supported enough by the Engineers, otherwise we would already have it available. The other modification must come to the 380 caliber that has to go to 9x18 of German origin and perfect the loads, to obtain an ideal projectile in terms of pressure, recoil and tuning in pocket weapons for the 21st century.-

    It is a slightly updated version of the Beretta 86 tip-up which did not have a light rail. My dad has always said that the 86 Tip-up was one of the only Beretta's he would have bought, IF he could have found one in 32ACP. Based on the available ammo of the time 32ACP was usually more accurate than .380. Since many of the direct blowback .380 pistols of the time were designed for the smaller cartridge they could beat themselves to death overtime, the HK4 is a prime example of this. With modern metallurgy, springs and ammo I've told him he really needs to look at the MC 14T.

    Beretta made a model 80 Cheetah then it went out of production. They have since resurrected the Cheetah with the 86. I am looking into getting the Girsan MC 14T due to an issue with racking the slide on my G19. I agree that it looks and performs like a Beretta clone.

    Girsan seems to make near perfect accurate reproductions of older competitor gun models like their 1911 military pistol. The small changes made to this gun seem to be the better barrel hinge pin design.On the original Berretta that pin and barrel is Not removable. It IS removable and replaceable, their 3 pc hinge pin assembly on the Girsan MC14T. It allows the barrel and slide to be removed on this pistol. (Just in case you want to remove the slide / barrel etc. for some deep cleaning etc.) I wish they had made the huge thick front sight removable/dovetailed in the barrel, but we cant have everything. For close range 380ACP defense shooting the sights should be fine. For elderly folks or those with hand strength issues this should be a great Self defense pistol imho.

  • @PatriotPaulUSA
    @PatriotPaulUSA 4 месяца назад +1

    I have read that you could Not remove the hinge pin on the Original Berretta. Its was splined and peened into place for life supposedly. Girsan Improved this old design. Its now a removable hinge pin by taking out a single roll pin. Now you can easily remove the barrel and slide! Excellent job Girsan ! Now this gun is much easier serviced and disassembled (unlike the original Berretta.)

      @@thetexasgunvault I would love to see and handle one of the original model 86 Berretta's too. They are the rarest of All the series 80 pistols. The original model 86 Tilt barrel 380's from Berretta were single stack 8 round and came with 2 mags. I have seen pictures and listings as high as $1599.00 for an original 86 here in Missouri. Unfortunately I just looked and the best thing to the Girsan MC14T I could find is the new 13 round Non Tilt up barrel , Berretta Cheetah for $769.00 I bought the tilt barrel Girsan MC14T in FDE for half of that. The lanyard loop sold me ! 😆🤠 Never know when I may have to go jump on a horse and go shooting. I'm just joking , As you said, I think Girsan really tries to make their new reproduction guns as close to exact duplicate of the original as possible. Girsan and Tisas (both Turkish gun makers) are similar in making almost exact copies of the old original all metal guns from yesteryear for usually half the cost. The Tisas 1911A1 Army model is so close to an exact WWII pistol its crazy. BTW, I saw another U tubers shooting video where he showed the Berretta 13 round mags fit and function perfect in these Girsan MC14T's which is good. Girsan has mags on backorder for some time and the gun only ships with 1 mag! I ordered 3 xtra 80x Berretta mags for under $30.00 ea. (Both are made by Mec Gar) I am not a fan of Turkey at all myself, but this pistol had so many special things going for it I had to get one. Its either that or spend $800.00 for a Beretta Cheetah which is not a Tilt up barrel. Its my 1st DA/SA pistol so If I get used to the manual of arms I may get a Berretta 92 someday. Thanks for your video review and shooting video that helped me make up my mind to order one.

    • @thetexasgunvault

      Yes depending on the type of malfunction or ruptured case. The extractor might not be strong enough to pull it out.

    Siempre es importante el análisis profesional. Esta pistola podría haber sido la pistola más precisa del mercado. Simplemente habría que agregarle una pequeña solista al final del cañón hasta la mira trasera y poner la misma encima de la mencionada solista, de tal forma que las miras queden fijas sobre el cañón. Habría que ponerle un cañón poligonal y además fundamental un extractor de uña. Sin dudas se podría haber perfeccionado facilmente el notable diseño del cañón basculante y hacer una perfección. Se entiende que los maravillosos armeros de Beretta no fueron apoyados lo suficiente por los Ingenieros, sino ya la tendríamos disponible. La otra modificación debe de venir sobre el caliblre 380 que tiene que pasar a 9x18 de origen Alemán y perfeccionar las cargas, para obtener un proyectil ideal en cuanto a presión, retroceso y puesta a punto en armas de bolsillo para el SXXI.-

    Another feature of tip up design and DA/SA you can have a round in the chamber and never have the hammer back until you wish to fire, in some its a decocker that can not fail.

I feel like this isn't bad but the not sure if it truly finds it's mark. Like they said it's a good gun for home defense and carry for people with weak hands. I just don't know how true that it. I like Girsan guns and have several of their shotguns, along with several of their pistols. That said, they need to figure out how to make better extractors. I had occasional FTE issues in both of my Girsan Regard pistols, changed them out for Beretta extractors and the problems went away. Also had the chambers of my shotguns polished so the shells would eject. Good quality guns, just need a little tinkering sometimes.
