As I remember, there was a growing dissatisfaction amongst Holden fans, and fans in general, with the Sierra's. Taking 9 out of the top ten places on the grid, and finishing 1 2 3 as well. It was quickly becoming the Ford Sierra series. This low volume special import car was dominating the series, but wasnt felt to be in the spirit of the race. Of course, the Nissan GTR "GODZILLA" came soon after, and became the next big disruptor. Fast forward to today, and this is why modern Supercars are engineered to all be the same.
Poor old Tom. Not content with destroying his car he them decided to destroy Perkins car as well. Right when when they were coming second and closing the gap.
@@robossuperchannel9434 If it won, unlikely to be disqualified. The race itself wouldn't be able to take the bad publicity and fall out from such a disqualification of the winner two years in a row.

Tom Walkinshaw’s protest should not have been allowed , as he was entered as a driver only - NOT a team entrant ( Larry Perkins) .
Pretty sure he was team manager.

@@scotty3da So the car that Perkins built, had an illegal steering rack?
Wow, that suprises me from Perkins.
A rolling start? Who were the officials trying to appease in 1988. Ugh.
The European drivers. They couldnt do a standing start.
It was something to do with the turbo charged cars. Forgot what it was for.
