Absolutely. You don't see it much in most forms of Motorsports, as in many of the competitions they run in, it's actually a disqualification to the driver for "breaking the harness" (seatbelt) or, sometimes, both breaking the harness and existing the vehicle, when the vehicle you're in isn't in danger or involved in a serious accident (for example, you're not on fire) all these things and more, can get you disqualified in some brands of Motorsports.
@@frenzalrhomb6919 And it often makes perfect sense, driver who wanted to help have lost their lives. After all they are still in a race, even with a yellow flag.
@nyftn No, it's certainly not the safest of ideas, but it is quite understandable on a human level. But I must add that I mostly attend the Speedway, and I only ever used to go to Oran Park Raceway every once in a blue moon, but I as I said, I'm mostly a Speedway fan. Now, about the only time you will see someone actually leave a vehicle to assist with a crash, is with the "full course red," or, more commonly, in the Motorcycle classes (Solo and Sidecars) you'll find it occurs far more often in those divisions, probably because of just the fact that their on bikes and not strapped in a car.
@rainerziehtkatapultenachgo9001 You're absolutely right. Lives have been lost in the past because of well-meaning fellow competitors who've seen a horrific incident, and their natural human instincts overrides their better nature takes them over and they will get straight out of their own car in an effort to give assistance to a fellow competitor, even if it's a foolhardy attempt.
Ive marshaled at F1 and IMSA races. RULE # 1 - CONTROL TOWER TELLS YOU WHAT TO DO. If limbs and internal organs are seen then you can use your best judgment. Other than that, you are a radio controlled robot. One reason. Turns. You think it’s safe, but control tower knows more than you do, you have to resist the urge. You wanna get froggy, but you can’t. It’s a BIG deal if you’re over that wall without permission.
It is completely unacceptable for that car to slam into the sideways car at the top of the mountain after so much time had passed since he spun. Where's the flags? Where is his team telling him he needs to be tight to the left side of the road through there? It's a known issue with sideways cars there and it has to stop.
There actually wasn’t that much time, probably 15 to 20 seconds. Communication and footage aren’t as advanced as in higher categories, and visibility in that part of the track is bad.
@@Poepvinger030 I fail to see why you would want to make excuses for this. There was more than enough time for race control to throw a full course yellow and for all following drivers teams to contact them on the radio. We've seen drivers die right there in that location from exactly that type of crash.
Drivers jumping out of their cars to help because this whole track is an absolute nightmare in terms of marshals and safty installations. Looks like an Amateur get together, unbelievable awkward to see ...
The problem is actually more likely to be tyres. Gt3 is a spec series with a control tyre. It sacrifices grip for longevity, and that's ok on most tracks but Bathurst is a different beast.
Modern real world motorsport looks so easy...until the driver is only 99% accurate. Then everything falls apart very quickly. Back in the old days, the cars were much, much more forgiving - you could be far less accurate and have much slower reflexes but the only things that would suffer as a result would be lap times and tyre wear.
That last smash was all that loser's fault for crawling around on the driver's line rather than pulling off to the side of the track. He should be banned from racing. So selfish and a sociopath to boot.
In the 12 hour they were some of the wildest ones in the last ~8 years. The first one with SVG was because it was for the race win and he had been driving on the very edge of the limit for his entire drive.
Love to see other drivers stopping and making sure their colleagues are alright. Great to see such camaraderie.

Those officials @3:55 should be fined and fired. Solid 5 minutes before a flag was raised. You have literally one job.
3:44 this guys dont wave the yellow flag they just chilling watching whats happening. and after idk how long they start to. stupid spotters

Me too! Favorite race of the year in all categories! The mountain forgives nobody caught napping
Aston Martin pulled a 180 Flat Spin + Boardgrind + Barrel Roll combo.
180 tailslide kick flip is what a skater would call it as.
Bathurst hits hard.Only the strong survive.
The mountain decides who shall prevail.
Embarrassing that the crowd was signaling for drivers to slow down before the marshal got the flag out 3:42
I love how the drivers were stopping next to the crash to check if the drivers involved are ok
1:20 Are the track marshals completely out of their minds?! I don't see any yellow flags?
Forget the 1000 in October (boring as batshit now) - I should know I've been there 44 times! This is the real race and I can't wait !
Only if more car brands start to come back
What years?
1:19 where are the marshalls waving yellow flags. This is track crew failure.
Top race, love Bathurst 12 hour race
Literally the video I was looking for a week ago
Those marshals are sleeping pills. Do they keep their yellow flags just for decoration? 🙄
Those first two crashes are wildest ever...? Huh?
That track doesn't take prisoners.
This track is on GT7 and it's brutal
