- What happens when I speak 5 languages to girls on the streets of Japan? I go up to strangers in Tokyo and code switch between different languages mid-conversation.

hi
I get to the end of all your videos , my life long frie d is Japanese, we met as kids I stole his robot toy 50 years later I still have it
Hey gal, your Cantonese is progressing really well... Please come to New York Chinatown whenever you can, we have lotsa Fujianese folks here who can speak both Mandarin and Cantonese!
I absolutely love this video! You bring so much joy, not only to the people you interact with on the streets, but your audience as well. I feel completely comfortable watching the conversation unfold as if I'm a participant. You do a great job with this channel!
You are like a diplomat, an ambassador, the best one ever! When I was in Africa, I remember getting a lot of attention but not always loving it. I remember the reaction of kids, mostly curiosity but sometimes even fear. But when I felt overwhelmed at times, I would stop myself to remind myself, YOU ARE HERE. I was blessed to be there and see the world from a new perspective and learn other languages. We don't need to be afraid, even with huge differences in culture, we find our common ground. We're all people doing our best and wanting the best for our children.
Well said. Thanks for weighing in with your own experience. Nice perspective in a challenging situation.
i went to africa once but i was in a tourist spot.... it was pretty awful, constantly getting asked to buy this or that, and when i actually wanted to buy something suddenly the whole street ganged on on me lolll , i figured i'd do the guy a favor and ignore all the lowballers, so i paid the original guy his price! turns out i bought a 2 dollar Sisha/hooker/water pipe for about 15 dollars LOL
@@raafmaat Which part of Africa, it’s a large continent?
It’s like saying I went to Eurasia. It’s almost meaningless.
@@Ketowski i kept it intentionally vague just like in the story i replied to that also just mentioned africa as a whole but since that was a positive story you didnt mind
@@raafmaat The story you replied to stated trends in several countries , not continents.
"What person are you" 😂😂 they're so straight forward it almost sounds rude!😂
It's just a translation thing, in Chinese that's how you ask where someone is from :) (the kids probably don't often see foreigners)
The day you and Kazu Language meet one day will be a special one
Dude, I tried to contact him multiple times. He does not answer messages.
EDIT: I completely failed to realized that OmeTV and Omegle are completely different platforms and the latter was shut down completely, my B
Im shocked, looks like Omegle your best bet lol
@@janswhatsupdocI’ve tried it and didn’t like it. Too much harassment as a female using that app.
@@OrientalPearl this is so strange since he replies to like every comment on his videos lol. you should maybe try there
@@OrientalPearlI don’t blame you at all as someone with social anxiety I feel the same way, it’s one of the main reasons why I don’t use the app to learn languages
She can't believe that you speak Japanese so fluently 🤭
These interactions are just MAGICAL. They immediately break the ice for having a friendly conversation!
It's been 2 years already since you and Tommy got married? Boy how time flies. Happy anniversary then. 🎉
You are absolutely amazing Anming. Just love to watch the latest from your posts.
So nice to be able to hear, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean and Japanese all in one video.
I send you peace, 💙 and harmony.
You could hear that lady's disappointment when she learned you were married to a Japanese guy instead of to a Chinese one HAHAHAHAH xDD
Pearl is catching languages like some kind of pokemons. And than slay and attack, attack and slay. Catching next.
Everyone loves it when you can speak in their native tongue. It is as if they are hearing their name being spoken without an introduction. Some people are floored. Some people are instantly curious. Most are both!
*Of course I made it to the end of the video - that's just what your #1 fan in Seattle does!* 🤗
Wow, thank you so much Steve. You’re one of the special ones for sure!
Your channel is so fun to watch! I live in Canada half hour from the Detroit Windsor border so I love it when you talk about Detroit!! ❤ I’ve been going to Detroit since I was a kid.. and it just keeps getting better and better. ❤😊
Sending love from Michigan to Canada!
Just the shot of wholesome that I needed today! Thanks!
I’m glad this made your day a little better.
Am a Tanzanian(EAST AFRICA) Your Amazing!
I Love to travel and the ability to speak multiple languages is indispensable, i think!
WOW!
....so amazing! Learning languages are the door into the people's hearts in that country! 😊👍👏👏👏
You and Tommy are just an Amazing couple. I love watching his Drama shorts. He’s hilarious. Thank you for sharing all your interactions with visitors and citizens of Japan 🇯🇵. I’m so proud of you with obtaining more than a million Subscribers. It’s nice to see you interact with someone from Harbin. See you on the next adventure. 🤍👍🏽 N. California/USA
You should have shirts that say, "No, I'm not Russian" in different languages.
I'll be satisfied when I can be truly conversational in Japanese, which I'm still very far from. But when I was in France and Belgium, I used my very limited and I thought almost forgotten French. Surprised myself by how much I remembered, and how much came back as I used it. Was able to use my almost non existent German in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. I learned very minimal Italian for my time there. Just using the little bits of the language of the country I was in always provoked a positive response. The funniest thing was when I was trying to recall an word or phrase in response, I often ended up responding unconsciously in Japanese. That truly surprised me, and happened often enough that is noticeable to the people I was with. They kept asking me why I was speaking Japanese. That's why I marvel at your ability to coherently carry on a conversation in multiple languages and keeping it all straight. Another great video, and whenever I need to gain inspiration for what is possible I only have to watch one of your videos. However, it helps that so many people know, can understand, and speak some English. Like in Asia, most know more English than I know their native language. They may be embarrassed by what they perceive as a lack of ability in English, which they are more willing to use when I have spoken to them in my poor imitations of their native tongues. Enjoyed this video.
Lately my memory is crap so I would also get languages jumbled up. I don't even try anymore but I am glad that you do try. That will take you far in life. :)
Language switching is always something very difficult too, I also speak better mandarin than Cantonese but sometimes I’m forced to swap to canto and as you can imagine it wasn’t a pretty experience
Hi Jim. I hope you had a good trip to Europe. I hope we can see you in Japan again soon. I hope you’re getting some use out of those Japanese books I bought with you last time.
You have a true gift Alyssa. I hope to one day be fluent in Spanish and then move on to Madarin.
She is really impressed with your multiple language speaking, Miss Alyssa.
Thanks Jerome. I’m working hard on Cantonese.
It’s amazing how many people’s minds you blow when you glitch the matrix. The day when you speak Vietnamese, Khmer, and TeoChew. My jaw would DROP!
TeoChew?
This is a great video, they always make me motivated while I’m learning, studying and practicing speaking Korean
Love this video!! I'm one of the few that made it to the end. I like the homeless video's of you and Tommy of showing the homeless and helping them💚💞
"What person are you?".
Yo Momma!.
At this point, should try learning your homecountry's language, Russian 😭
Ha ha, then nobody would be surprised.
It's one thing to speak languages, but switching so effortlessly between multiple languages in one conversation is beyond impressive!
Thank you Heather!
I love watching your videos. I wish I could do what you do. It's really wonderful. I spent 5 months in Japan last year and loved it. I plan on returning each year, so I want to learn Japanese. I did buy the full Pimsler's method through your link. Now, I need to spend more time with it!
That’s awesome that you got to spend so much time in Japan. I hope you love Pimsleur’s program as much as I do.
Another great video, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it Mich.
I enjoyed this video quite a lot. Thanks for sharing it with us. 😊😊
I only have five lessons left of that language app. Since I just had knee surgery last night, I plan to finish and then go through all the lessons one more time while I recover! 🎉
That’s awesome that you’re using pimslure!
You are so sweet with the way you converse. Blessings to you from the USA. Be well :)
Thank you so much!
I really love ❤️ the shocked faces 😮 when they don't expect perfect Japanese, Chinese, or Korean.....
I've been studying Italian in hopes I can visit my mother's family in Sicily someday. I've got to the point where I can read and understand some, but I need to study more. I love watching your show. Keep it going and keep posting! ❤
The all East Asian Cultural Sphere languages
Always great content OP.
I caught your livestream the other day live, cool video too
I am so impressed with the various languages you speak. Keep it up!
An amazing compilation with new footage, it looks like!
This was so much fun. It’s inspiring for someone who has never had a facility with languages.
Thank you! I went out filming to get more footage yesterday and I’ll probably try again tomorrow as well.
Ahhh these videos are always my favorite!! Keep up the amazing content! ^^

Yes multilingual…I can’t wait to get there, if I get there with mandarin I ll have a handle on French and English too. That will be amazing for my self esteem lol

Had a chance to be an exchange student in Italy for a semester after studying Italian at the University of Texas for two years. Still kicking myself for not doing that. :(
You could always go for a short trip to a language school.
I don’t know how your mind shifts from one language to another..Truly amazing.Been studying Chinese 2 years now and now can’t speak a word of Spanish which I was moderate at. It must require a special knack.I envy you❤
I bet you haven’t lost your Spanish entirely. If you got back into it you could pick it up again fast.
That one group around the 5 minute mark understood all three of the Far East languages and both of the Chinese dialects. Simply amazing how you speak all of them with accomplished fluency.
Pearl has the best superpower EVER!!!!
Great video! Lots of fun. Time to start wearing a "I'm not Russian" sign somwhere on your coat!
Love your videos so very much. You are just amazing., Greetings from NY-USA (originally from Indonesia)
Thank you so much! Sending love to you from Japan.
I think you are more amazing for still responding to random comments than for speaking so many languages.... Dont respond to this one, just read it, dont waste time 😄
So, I follow Xiaomanyc as well. I find that your interactions are more natural because the people are less intimidated.
always enjoy you videos
First half Chinese people pretty much think she's some rickshaw steal-marketing campaign.
I still want to visit China some day tbh. Or at least Taiwan. It's just the political situation there seems so hot right now and I don't know how that effects tourism, travel, but also people's anxiety about westerners.
It’s so cute that she has a Mandarin Chinese accent in Korean 😂
Another amazing journey with oriental pearl ❤️

Thank you
I feel as though im right there 😂
Glad you enjoy it!
There’s something wrong when her Chinese is better than my English.
I’ve been trying to learn languages but it’s a bit hard with sharing a room with my sibling so when speaking the words out loud they always get frustrated and tell me to shut up but they are on a 129 streak of Japanese on duo and can’t even say a sentence properly lol
I wish I knew more languages. But I feel blessed for knowing more than one. Beeing from Norway. I know norwegian, swedish, danish and english. And a tiny bit german
You’re amazing.
@@OrientalPearl Thank you. 🥰So are you. You are such an inspiration. I enjoy your content so much
I have lived in Japan since 1989 and I speak Japanese everyday and nobody makes any fuss at all.
i wish i was woman that could speak cantonese but i am only man that can speak words like this
Love your videos and I still can't believe you know Kevin Woo (ex member from ukiss)
Thanks Miaka. Yeah, he’s a friend of a friend.
I believe they think she's "Russian" because her heritage is more likely than not Eastern European. In fact, outside of Scandinavia, Central and Western Europe any tall, blonde woman is going to attract a lot of attention.
Oh my goodness we love your video
Joe n Christina oh we live in Texas but we’re from the west coast 😉
日本なのに韓国や中国から浴衣着て遊びに来てくれてるんですね、嬉しいです^^
You are a star!
Generally speaking, Asian countries tend to be very friendly with foreign to people. If you have made an effort to learn their language, that is giving much face to them and they will respond in kind.
@OrientalPearl You bring up an interesting point at the beginning of your video. Many people may see foreigners, but not have an opportunity to speak with them. Perhaps, instead of approaching unsuspecting people you could create an opportunity for passersby to speak to an American in their chosen language. It could be as simple as standing in a popular place with a sign in multiple languages that says, "Speak with an American in (language)." I would be curious to see what they want to know about Americans as well what their opinions and stereotypes are. I think it would also be a good opportunity to perhaps dispel some misconceptions about American culture. Anyway, perhaps something to consider in a future video.
"Did you know only 20% of people make it this far in the video and youre one of them?"
Y-you make me feel so special Pearl sensei!! 😭
You’re special indeed. Thanks for watching the whole thing.
@@OrientalPearl AAAHHHH THANK YOU!! 😭
8:15 when they learned that you are married, they were like okay, keep going 😂 you should have waited with that mariage...JK♡
Good job as always
Cool video! Amazingly how did you learned all that languages, really an achievement. I wonder if there are similarities between then like latin languages. Congratulations, we like your content!
Meltdown is a noun. Melt down is the verb phrase you want here ;)
Here we go!
Awesome video 😊Aloha from Hawaii 🌴🤙🏽
Thanks for visiting. Sending love from Japan.
For as long as I watched you know. One thing I have noticed, your laghter has converted to the style of laughter most seem to laugh like over there. No matter weather you speak english or Mandarin, or any of the others, you laugh in a form of, I would call it a laughing shy giggle, you can feel the urge for you to want to put your hand up to your mouth. I got a talent for reading or studying people and their behaviors, I think thats why I like watching your videos so much. There such diffent behaviors that come into the different cultures. I could never be so reserved I fearvI blow up like a balloon, lol.
As I said I do enjoy the content you share, all the way here in Minnesota 😮. 😅

Incredible!
WOW two years ? That flew by for me and I'm not married Hahaha !
I like the way you have studied many languages and lived in the countries and speak fluently and then go talk to these people and say...oh no ...I suck...I am no good hahaha ...good marketing strategy.
I want to learn some languages. Going to try Japanese first cuz it’s where I want to visit first.
Thank you I think that you are amazing xoxo
You’re so kind.
What a beauty!
Thanks!
Wow thank you so much! This means a lot.
You are not going to like this but as an America born Asian that speaks multiple languages, you do look more like a Russian than a typical American. We should also put this into context that during my recent (post-pandemic) business trips to China, I saw more Russians just about everywhere, even at the airport in the customs line. US-China relationship isn't what it used to and China's relationship with Russia means a lot of visitors from there, so naturally people assume you are a Russian - you certain look like one and they are used to seeing a lot of Russians around.
Funny video, but where are the.......delicious pancakes?!
great video
Glad you enjoyed it
I really ought to learn Polish, but wanna learn Japanese !
Adorable 💕
amazing
Um beijão do Brasil para você, galêga poliglota. (Galêga = blond person). Seus videos são muito divertidos e interessantes, legal !!
I know you just started learning cantonese, but mind the tonations. They're much more important than your other languages as it can really change what you say. It almost feels as if you're speaking mandarin when you speak cantonese.
Fun video.👍🥰
Japanese people only wear kimonos on certain annual occasions and celebrations, so these people were easily identifiable as other Asians and would have been very easy to talk to.
That’s true, but a lot of Japanese tourists from other cities come to Asakusa and rent Yukata. So most are Japanese.
I like being one of the special ones
You are indeed. I appreciate you.
Another great video!
Good afternoon family and good health to everyone especially MENTAL. Always thank you very much for sharing. 💯❤️💯✌️ Familia
