Yeah I just got back from Japan and people were VERY sociable and nice when I would go up and speak to them.
I don't even know too much Japanese, just a beginner still but I noticed not many women would initiate conversations there.
Besides the maids and consorts in Tokyo streets haha. Definitely look into Pimsleur, it is actually amazing.

When i saw you speaking Cantonese, I was like "Oh this must be one of those practice in person" days. And I was right! I admittingly haven't started Pimsleur but I truly think watching your videos over the last 4 years has given me strangely the courage to start therapy and figure out how to be more outgoing and do social activities outside of my comfort zone. AND to speak more in Spanish when I have a customer (I took so many years, I still cant reply back well, but I understand it LOL).

You are like a diplomat, an ambassador, the best one ever! When I was in Africa, I remember getting a lot of attention but not always loving it. I remember the reaction of kids, mostly curiosity but sometimes even fear. But when I felt overwhelmed at times, I would stop myself to remind myself, YOU ARE HERE. I was blessed to be there and see the world from a new perspective and learn other languages. We don't need to be afraid, even with huge differences in culture, we find our common ground. We're all people doing our best and wanting the best for our children.

I'll be satisfied when I can be truly conversational in Japanese, which I'm still very far from. But when I was in France and Belgium, I used my very limited and I thought almost forgotten French. Surprised myself by how much I remembered, and how much came back as I used it. Was able to use my almost non existent German in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. I learned very minimal Italian for my time there. Just using the little bits of the language of the country I was in always provoked a positive response. The funniest thing was when I was trying to recall an word or phrase in response, I often ended up responding unconsciously in Japanese. That truly surprised me, and happened often enough that is noticeable to the people I was with. They kept asking me why I was speaking Japanese. That's why I marvel at your ability to coherently carry on a conversation in multiple languages and keeping it all straight. Another great video, and whenever I need to gain inspiration for what is possible I only have to watch one of your videos. However, it helps that so many people know, can understand, and speak some English. Like in Asia, most know more English than I know their native language. They may be embarrassed by what they perceive as a lack of ability in English, which they are more willing to use when I have spoken to them in my poor imitations of their native tongues. Enjoyed this video.

    Hey,
I am an American born citizen of the US of Chinese descent. English is my second language since we spoke on Chinese at home. I speak cantonese, but I will have to say that your Cantonese is a whole lot better than mine. Keep up the your desire to learn and expand your knowledge.

I think it's amazing what you can do. I have always wanted to travel to Japan. I have started the Pimsler Japanese course. It is very difficult for me. I have been trying for about 7 months and I couldn't carry on a conversation to save my life yet. So I really admire your abilities.

The question of "Are you Hongkongese?" makes sense since it was a British Colony and there is a small European community who have lived there for generations.

I always wanted to learn japanese. I love their philosophy how they go about everything. I started by learning Hiragana & Katakana several weeks ago. Its quiet hard to stay in it because i got the feeling i am going nowhere at this point. Im german by the way. Someone wanna learn with me?

I had basic German in high school, not knowing that I would end up living there for 3 years. I ended up being conversationally fluent. I came back to the US and after over 20 years of not using it, I can barely remember anything. I also learned Korean pretty well, but the problem with that is that every Korean I met didn't want to talk in Korean. They wanted to use me to practice English. So it was really hard to find anyone to converse with in Korean and I just could not get it to stick. Memory retention was almost non-existent. My biggest advice is that if you're going to learn it then you have to actively use it. If you don't, you're wasting your time and effort.
