The hug was my favorite part.❣ It's amazing how children are so drawn to sweet 'foreigners". I think it's because in that moment, they are learning that although we may look different, we're all just humans.
The hug from that young girl brought a tear to my eye two or three in fact, it was as if you just got vindicated for doing what you do so wonderfully with all the people you meet. It was one of the best things I have witnessed on youtube, and the fact that it made you absolutely thrilled too was great to see, even to the slight mock misery of your beloved hubby, HA!.
That’s not jealousy. It’s Japanese indirectness. Tommy was asking Anming for a hug, but she misunderstood and left him hanging. Obviously, the proper response American-Japanese response is to administer a hug that is intimate enough and long-lasting enough to trigger severe Japanese embarrassment at public displays of affection.

Someone I worked with went for a family vacation and one of their daughters has light blonde hair and Chinese people wanted a photo with her all the time. Some even wanted actually touch (cringe) her hair as though it was magical or something. It got un-nerving for her parents after a while

Same with red hair. An old coworker - a muscular 6'4" ginger Viking of a man with long hair and a long beard - went to China for a trip and he might as well have been the biggest celebrity in the country LOL
I had to learn Cantonese on my own just so I can talk to my in-laws and order food. I learned just enough to make conversations and the people from Hong Kong get shocked when I speak their language. I also speak Spanish, a little Italian, a little Hebrew, a little Japanese and a little Russian. Many years ago when Ukraine was a part of the Soviet Union, I was in the Kiev airport. I overheard a man talking to one of the employees about me - asking who I was, where was I from, etc. I looked at them both and said, "I speak Russian and can understand you." They were so embarrassed.
Thank you for this channel, it's a really cool thing to be able to speak fluently more than one language, what a blessing you and your husband are. Thank you thank you!

At 0:28. They assume that a lot in South Korea too. There are Russians and Ukrainians who come to South Korea for work or school reasons. However just because they are blonde hair, have fair skin tone, and blue eyes does not mean they are Russian or Ukrainian.

@@HelenaRG71, because of the war Russians now can't easily travel to European countries and visit Asia more, especially China. I was in China and heard it too, but in my case, they were right because I'm Russian. In the Philippines, I often hear "Are you from America?". Some people said that many Filipinos associate white people with Americans. I guess because a lot of foreign tourists are from the USA. The same with the Chinese. But it's my opinion.
First of all, cause there's a lot of Russian tourists in China, and also a lot of Russians from the eastern regions tend to move to China to work or study, it's easier and cheaper than moving to European part of Russia. On top of that, cause of the war even more Russians travel to China. But also - besides of being blond, her facial features are actually quite slavic. I don't know if Asians can see these features (just like we Europeans may have problem seeing differences in Asian faces), but she definitely has some of these. So it's not straight stereotype like blond swedes in Italy, it's more like a bunch of small things on top of each other.
Whilst this is true, I think she is brunette naturally and dyed blonde. Also I don't know how much study you need to do to speak 3 Asian languages almost fluently but it must be a huge amount beyond comprehension for your average adult.
You are a cute Russian lady. That's why they want your picture. Also I think it's great you are getting Tommy to do his howling thing again. 8:27 I love it when he cuts loose with that!
I actually don't want to be fluent in languages of countries I regularly visit. Knowing the basic essential travel phrases keeps me in my happy-bubble away from things I wouldn't want to hear 🙉
Every time we see various Asian people break into huge smiles upon hearing a foreigner speak their language, it makes me glad I subscribed. As a sociologist with many friends from Japan, China & Korea, I know that Asian people grow up learning a totally different type of body language ... including a more reserved 'SMILE LANGUAGE'. This is partly why we Westerners have labeled Asians as 'inscrutable'. The way they carry themselves and their facial expressions in public are meant to be reserved. I think the placid face and neutral stance is meant to be respectful of others. Westerners might misinterpret that as unfriendly or unwelcoming. Armed with her little camera and her ability to speak their lingo, Oriental Pearl shows us just how friendly & spontaneous the people of the Far East can be. When caught off guard like this (when the passerby foreigner is not expected to speak and interact at all), its a warm-hearted prank that everyone can enjoy. Getting back to smiles, when the first high speed trains went into service in China and western foreigners started to use them, there was a special training exercise for the stewardesses: A youtube video shows how they are taught to smile and talk at the same time. They practice by looking in a mirror and speaking, while gripping a pencil between their front teeth. Keep up the good work, Miss O.P. !!
I’ve never once heard someone speaking a language I don’t understand around me and thought they were talking about me. I have this very strange notion where I understand I am not the center of the universe. And to be honest, the only place I’ve been where people seem to talk a lot about other people is the good ol U.S. of A.

Someone asks you for a photo everyday, because you are a unicorn... tall, white, blonde and blue eyed. (It's really just that simple.)
Whilst this is true, I think she is brunette naturally and dyed blonde. Also I don't know how much study you need to do to speak 3 Asian languages almost fluently but it must be a huge amount beyond comprehension for your average adult.
You're great. Very funny to watch your videos. Greetings from Germany 😁😁😁
Glad you like them!

Love the reaction you get from everyone . Keep up the good work 😊
Thank you so much 😁
You are a cute Russian lady. That's why they want your picture.
Also I think it's great you are getting Tommy to do his howling thing again. 8:27 I love it when he cuts loose with that!
You came to Singapore! I’ve been watching your videos since the pandemic lockdowns, I’m a fan! Hope to meet you the next time in Singapore 🇸🇬 ❤
Thank you! It was my second visit there. The first was in 2019.
malaysians always pride themselves for being multilingual and you really surprised them.
Top notch as always !!!
When caught off guard like this (when the passerby foreigner is
not expected to speak and interact at all), its a warm-hearted prank that everyone can enjoy.
Getting back to smiles, when the first high speed trains went into service in China and western foreigners started to use them, there was a special training exercise for the stewardesses:
A youtube video shows how they are taught to smile and talk at the same time.
And to be honest, the only place I’ve been where people seem to talk a lot about other people is the good ol U.S. of A.
I just love you, your vibe and videos 😊 keep it up!
Thank you for putting them out!
Thank you so much!!
I think Americans and British are stereotyped as fat and she is in healthy physical condition so they are assuming Russian
