I watch all your amazing videos Marty, and I must say, it pushes me to go further and challenge myself. Given last weekends incident and finding that dime on the ground in the middle of know where was the only place I got one bar reception was an absolute miracle. I was happy I got my coordinates out to you and you called it in. When my partner showed early signs of hypothermia , I knew I could count on you to get us out of harms way. I was good for another three days at least, but the fear of the situation caused me to tap out. I have never tapped in my life, but I knew it was time to throw in the towel. Much appreciated my friend for calling in Alpine rescue to get us out safely. I knew we were beat after the snow and I couldn’t locate the chains for the descent, and going back over the ridge could have been fatal. You were our guardian angel brother. Took over 12 hours of trying to send messages and you are the only one who got it. And for that I am thankful. And if alpine rescue wasn’t available, I knew you would come. Sore legs and all. PS those socks were amazing, please drop me a link. I need those ballon animal socks. Cheers Mate

Thanks. That was actually a tough hike. We averaged under 2 km/hr for the whole trip, which is very slow.

I forgot just how amazing the pass before Michelle Lake was. That camp on night 3 turned out to be quite memorable. Too bad it rained on the last day, otherwise this would have been a nearly perfect trip.

It was perfect as like you said; it threw everything at us. That’s why we go out and why we keep going out right? 👊

Awesome 😊. I did the trail with two others from Norman Creek staging area to Pinto lake, Michelle lakes, and out Owen Creek. It is amazing! I enjoy your videos.

Was that recently? Did we cross paths on the trail? Someone sent us a nice picture of our group via Facebook.

@@Martyupnorth , no I went August 15 through the 17... barely anyone doing the trail between Pinto and Michelle. Only met 4 solo men coming from Michelle lakes. The horse flies were brutal as I would've preferred the mosquitoes, lol. And with knee issues, the owen Creek part was brutal. But I took a newbie on her first backpacking hike and she loved it! She's number 4 I've taken since 2018. 😄
I'm just outside Edmonton so enjoy the mountains when I can. I both yours and Matty's channel's.

Martyupnorth I live in Edmonton. I’m doing a little mid life career change and once I graduate I’m hunting down work in Calgary so I can enjoy the mountains way more often.

I cannot exactly describe my thoughts about these beautiful views but maybe they look like a wide open Glacier National Park. Or Glacier is a constricted Northern Canadian Rockies. Either way this is an amazing video

2020 was supposed to be the year of hiking collaborations with American friends, but COVID19 put an end to that. I'll try again next summer. I'd love to hike in Utah, Colorado, Montana and New Mexico.

That was the only time this summer that I finally had to use insect repellent. I borrowed some from the other guys on day 4. The bugs were absolutely relentless.

It's gained a lot of popularity in the last decade. More and more people are hiking it, so it's in better shape. The GDT association sponsors upgrades and maintenance of different sections every year.. That said, the fact that it's overgrown and remote is what really makes this trail unique. It's not like American long-distance trails with 1,000s of hikers and cell-coverage every step of the way. The GDT offers a true remote wilderness experience.
