  • What started as the smokiest day all summer ended with a beautiful golden evening. We saw our first bear of the summer on our walk back up the road to the trailhead, and then had a steep but interesting hike up the long ascent to Owen/Zinger Pass. The wind was howling by the time we got up there, but as it pushed the smoke out, our views increased exponentially! Arriving at the basin earlier than expected, we had supper and then an evening adventure exploring the beautiful basin.
    Day 38 ~20km and 1200m elevation.

well that looked like a tough hike. Definitely not dog friendly so looks like we will have take Kline River to Michele Lakes.

Hey very nice video of your Michele Lakes hike. One thing to note is the name of the lakes was once Michele with only one L in it and now I see everyone calling them Michelle with two LL's. Not sure when it was changed or how this happened? At the base of the waterfall between the lakes there once was a plaque with who the lakes had been named after but I see no reports of anyone finding it anymore. I do have a picture of it from one of the visits I did there back about fifteen years ago. Overall, fun to watch!

One of my favorite sections! I liked the freedom going over these passes, so fun and so martian :D

Brigid, I believe this one of m favorites, from start to finish. Some hairy moments but oh that spectacular view was worth the climb. When you got down in the basin just beautiful!! Thank you again for another amazing video!!

I found out that the name Zinger Pass isn't even a thing. A number of years ago a group of tourists got helicoptered into Michele Lakes. They had plaques made up and proceeded to name a few passes after themselves (Zinger, Annesley, and CMT). I hope someone removes those plaques someday.

Omg that’s so crazy! I think whatever company helicoptered them in needs to go get them 😡

Hey Brigid, just wondering if you know a way to find other hikers to hike with. I live in calgary and long to go on back country hikes/camping except all my friends like to trailer camp and I'm to scared to do solo for the first time do you have any tips you could share on how to find fellow hikers or even beginner hikers? P.s. amazing video you and your husband look like you had a great time

Hi Mike! I think there’s a few hiker clubs in Calgary that post on Facebook. Other than that, you could go on a few one-nighters to ease into the solo hiking, then slowly increase as you become more comfortable. If you’re ever up Jasper way we’d be happy to keep you company on an over nighter this May/June. We’ve got a few hikes planned for the weekends. 👋🏻
