Looks like interesting tent about half price of my Soulo and 200 g heavier. Will be interesting to see reviews in real situation like windy Cairngorms. Question is obviously reliability, quality and strength. At least for now I feel that my Soulo is a better choice, not only it was tested for years in the most difficult situations, but also guaranteed high resale value(not that I am planning to sale mine any time soon). Thank for the review. Always interesting to learn new gear developments.

Great video Andrew, can't wait to receive mine, I really like some of the attention to detail like the bungees for the guy lines, vent clip on the guy, inner adjustment. Just one thing to note, on Nortents pitching video for the Vern one, they feed the guy lines back through webbing loop and over the cross section or back through itself on side guys. Not sure how much difference it would make.

  • @joinmeoutdoors

Cracking look at the tent, as we've come to expect from you, Andrew! A great addition to the market from the looks of it. The ends look to be more aerodynamic than the Soulo's (I'm a Soulo owner). Vestibule looks big, and pitching looks easy (love the guy line retainers). I wonder how the weights of poles + pegs compare between the Vern and the Soulo? The Vern comes with 16 very sturdy stakes compared to the 12 lighter weight stakes you get with the Soulo, and the Vern poles look to be longer perhaps? I wonder if the combination of squeezing the pole crossing points together with the guy line tape and subjecting the tent to high winds could result in the poles crushing each other and failing? I'm sure they'll be up to the job. It's really good to see a Hilleberg rival come on the scene to give us all something to consider! It's certainly got me wondering... 🤔 James.

it looks a great design for practicality, I cant help think that with the longer poles being so wide apart and crossing over so low down that the roof might just cave in in high winds, I think this is why the poles on the soulo are so upright. but we will see. will be interesting to see it in higher winds for sure and nice preview video, thanks.

I had a similar thought. I'm wondering whether ultimately it might need the end guys looped up and round walking poles handles a couple of feet off the ground before pegging to avoid potential caving or if the profile is so low it might not happen. I'll have to try this in real conditions

I quite like it and the price is good. The issues for me are weight, internal space and bulk. For example, my Hilleberg Unna (with 10.25mm poles and extra guylines) is still at least 500g lighter and has more internal space. Granted, this has a large vestibule, which the Unna does not (there are ways around that with the Unna). BUT, this is a few hundred quid cheaper!

I think there's so much of tent design that's generic and use the same parts sourced in china that it's really hard for tent brands to patent or trademark. The exception seems to be Vango's storm internal guy system that seems to scare most of the competition from copying weirdly ?!
