A bro I wanted to ask you a question about cleaning the rubber seals because I'm about to buy a bmw hardtop convertible. My question was what makes the rubber seals dirty what if I never put the top down will the rubber seals still get dirty
i have this same car 2008 model and i have one of the trim piece missen. will the link provide me with the part that will work/fit for mine? just asking. will appreciate any response
I’ve owned two of these cars. My first was a 2011 328i hardtop convertible. Great car. But after 4 years and 1 minor issue unrelated to the top, I moved on and bought a 2015 428i hardtop convertible. It’s an even better car. And it gets fantastic gas mileage...better than any car it’s size has a right to get. Additionally, that 3 banger is faster than my last one was with it’s straight six. It’s roomier, quieter, faster, and just more comfortable than my 328i ever was. This car hasn’t had a single issue. That’s 8 years of straight BMW hardtop convertible ownership, both originally purchased as Certified Used cars, and in all, there’s been but ONE very minor issue that had nothing to do with the top. The tops on both have been absolutely flawless. Neither has ever failed to operate perfectly. This is one car I would DEFINITELY BUY AGAIN and AGAIN!!! They’ve been better than any other cars I’ve ever owned. Incidentally, I had a tow hitch from “Hidden Hitch” installed on both of these cars. There’s nothing better than a day out on the water with your high powered jet ski except when you get to launch it from the back of your BMW convertible with it’s top down. It makes the fun significantly better. And when I finish riding my ski, I know that the fun isn’t over, because I get to tow it behind my BMW convertible. There’s definitely BMW cars that have a horrible reputation. THIS ISN’T SUCH A CAR. It’s probably one of the all time BEST convertibles out there. And as a hardtop convertible, you get the best of BOTH worlds...A great looking coupe and a great looking convertible all in one package. It’s every bit as quiet as the coupe with it’s top up.

It now has 250.000 km..... I take care of it like any other car, run it through automatic car wash, though I have never encountered any of these problems. BMW haters can say whatever they want, they may not like them and I can respect that but I personally still today impressed with the quality of the car. Personally I’m not a German car fanatic... Hi guy: I have a 2012 BMW 335i Convertible, and like you, every time I open up the top I think " What about if some day It will break down !!!". Right now I have a clunking noise that it seems to be coming from the right hand side towards the hinder seats. Is there any rubber material that I could sandwich somewhere to eliminate that clunking sound ??
My e93 is 9 years old. So far it really never needed expensive repairs. Only the typical service like brakes, oil filter. German quality for a cheap price now. Wonderful car. Diesel consumption is extreme low. 1200km with one fill.
Thanks for the video - something to mention is the drainage holes which can get blocked either due to debris or frozen water. this can result in water flooding the electronics in the boot. They drain out each side of the car in the rear... BMW on older versions will open out the holes to allow for better drainage, the newer cars now have this done in manufactuer. Hoping these comments help. I love my version of this car, and have spent quite sometime touring in it in central europe (prior Covid).
Great video! I had a Z4 hardtop convertible and loved it. Yes it is expensive. The hydraulics blew and it cost $2K to fix. Thank God I got an extended warranty.
I have only owned one convertible in my history and that was a '97 Mustang. I didn't keep it too long but I definitely am glad I don't have the maintenance to go along with it. Thanks Christian for the how to and Negatives about the hardtop convertible. It looks nice. Looking forward to hearing about the project car! Keep up the good work and we'll see you in the next video! Best wishes and Peace out brother!
Excellent tutorial on the Cabriolet. Worth noting all the points raised. A big thank you, just purchased the M 4 20i Sports Cabriolet. Will ensure the servicing and hard top is maintained regularly. Very useful video. Thanks
My uncle had both an E93 M3 and 335i, respectively. They didn't have any of these problems, but the M3 had the dreaded catastrophic rod bearing failure. The engine was replaced under warranty, but my uncle traded it and got the 335i. Ironically, the 335i was a much better car. He had it for about 5-6 years and all the common problems were repaired under warranty. If you know these cars, these were the turbo wastegates, fuel injectors, high-pressure fuel pump, VANOS, and water pump. Now he has an F10 M5 and an M4 convertible and so far they haven't given him any major issues.
The LCI e93 in the uk is more common. Try eBay UK you can pick a pair up for about £300 or 400 USD. Outside of Germany the uk has loads of BMW breakers and spare parts. That's why we all buy BMW because second hand parts are cheap compared to the USA. I put full 6wb digital guage on for £500 on my f11 msport. Also upgraded LCI msport steering wheel . But looking back the pre LCI steering was more brutal looking, this is more sleek and I don't like it.
@@slcarsuk personal preference, I like thick steering wheels but the look of it has to be important aswell. But I suggest you try swapping it out to see what you prefer, it might add to your driving pleasure
I loved this video!!! I thought it was incredibly helpful! Thinking about purchasing a BMW hardtop convertible and this video gave me a lot to think about. So happy I watched this before making a decision, gave me a lot to consider. Would definitely love to see the opposite about why to buy a hardtop!

I’ve owned a 335 convertible and currently have a e93 m3 for 4 years now with zero top issues. The only issue I’ve had was water In the trunk underneath the battery tray which rotted out the power cable supposedly it’s a common issue.
You explained it perfectly 🤦🏽♂️ and I spent more than a whole year looking for a used pair of LCI taillights. But it is fun when you put the top down😭
I have an e46 convertible. When I bought it the top wasn't working. I said I'll save money and fix it. It's been 4 years. Haven't fixed it 🤣 Good job on maintaining your e93 really happy for you
Have mine 6 years. Very very reliable. Injectors will fail at any time over 100k...but this is one of the best practical 4 seater convertibles for not too much outlay...
this is why i hate youtube comments. people stating their opinion like its fact. just read how many other people commented here that they have a convertible and love it. why can't anybody just include in their comment something like "i'm sure a lot of people have a different opinion, but in my opinion...". the reason why is because people like to be super aggressive and try to trigger people with a differing opinion. that's why youtube comments are unhealthy.
Hi, on 7:51 minutes you talk about that little piece ... Mine broke while still attached ... is it possible to take the broken one out without having to take out the whole big piece (do not know how to call it) and then just snap the new one just like you did ???
All I'm hearing is "It's expensive". I've always been told, if you cannot afford it, don't buy it. And everyone knows BMW's are expensive to maintain If you (in general) are going to DIY your repairs/installs, don't complain about things being difficult. There is reasons why there are specialists for specific brands of vehicles Nice car though, certainly takes pride in the vehicle 👌🏻
I have a 2017 Lexus and had it for 4-years. All I did to it was oil changes. I recently did my first big thing where I had to do the 30,000 miles service. It was $1497. This was after having the car 4-years of everyday driving. And the car drives like a dream. I had a BMW 325 and it spent alot of time in the shop. I'm not knocking your car but if you want real reliability get a Lexus.
Love the video bro. I experienced the same issue with the plastic molds with my 2010 E93. However, you did leave out the fact that you will always get LEAKS at the driver and passenger door pillars regardless of proper maintenance.
What i can do to repair my leak on front pillar connection driver one , right side its ok , and i proper grease them like u . But i still get the leaks , i got to the bmw and they checked the leaking tunnel and they said its ok idk why its happening . My rubber its in good condition but at left side driver seems to acumulate water in there.
Got watching this video is stressing me out! I have to e93's sitting in my driveway and my 2011 has a broke trim piece on the passenger side.... and its the hard one with the clips! Im hell bent on not spending $1200 to fix it so the trim price that is broke in 3 places is sitting on my table with jb-weld on it drying. Gonna try and put it back on with some bailing wire! Wish me luck!🤦
We bought a Mercedes SLC 200 just three months ago and we absolutely love it. Watched this video because I was curious about a hard top convertible with 4 seats - your tips for maintenance are really helpful to me! Gonna check everything tomorrow! Thanks man
Thank you for the video. I have a 2009 hardtop BMW 328I. My issue is, when the top is dropped it's not fully secured. The green light doesn't shut off. Then it reads movement impaired. What can be the issue? Help please. This just happened on Thursday. Thank you
I bought a 2011 Hard Top Convertible. Nothing but issues with the hard top. The car is nice, but one of the arms broke, and caused the plastic piece with the string going through it to break also. It also leaks above the driver and passenger window.
That's so cool Christian, cause I need to do mines! Lol. Ready for the"Why you should get a Hardtop convertible" . You Live in Florida, and I Live in California. That answers our reasons! Lol
Great video: lots of useful info and quite amusing as well! The bit about conditioning the rubber seals and lubricating the joints was very clear. Thanks for taking the time to put it all together. I have a lowly 2007 325i SE E93 and need to attend to the same jobs... Cheers from the UK
yes, very useful information. but don't use wd40 - it leaves a sticky residue which will attract dust and turn into gunge. my bmw dealership suggested using a silicone lubricant.
I love me M235i convertible. Bmw techs told me that the hard tops have problems and leaking issues and once they go out of alignment they are almost impossible to get back correctly to prevent leaks, they said they have no problems with soft tops, one reason because it is flexible and can easily be put back in alignment if there is damage done.
I always have that bad feeling lol what if the top breaks down, what if the hydraulic fluid leaks lol but definitely i will not swap it for a coupe 🤷🏻♂️😂 excellent upload 👌🏻
Weird, I have a 2011 Volvo c70 hard top convertible. I put over 80k miles on it and have owned it for 8 years. I haven't had to clean the seals or the moving parts on it and it still works like a dream 🤷♂️
Saturday I had the top down on my 2013 328 and a thunderstorm brewed up so I ducked into Walmart's parking lot to put the top up (that year you could not operate the top while moving) and it froze in the stacked position. That is the point where the top is up but the three roof panels are still stacked on top of each other. So a flatbed to BMW on Monday, because they were closing before we could get there Saturday. And today I got the estimate, $1,785 ($2000 with break fluid flush which was due as of May and driving me crazy with the SERVICE alarm) but they are covering my rental car. I do not understand why the hydraulic ram has to be replaced if it is just a hall sensor, but it is a sensor that you do not want going out that is for sure. Still, take care of it properely and even though there are a million things that can go wrong with it they actually have a good reliability record. This is my third BMW 328i HT convertible and first problem I ever had with it. And I love the car enough to pay it, nobody said they were cheap.
1: Rear lights... Not a problem at all... You dont need them to enjoy the car. They are fine! 2: Trunklid... Have full insurance that would cover it if something happens or just dont brake it? 3 Headliner... bit expensive not deal braker. 4 Hinges... Dont go to automatic carwash ever! Also wouldnt insurance mentioned before cover it if its an accident in a carwash? ( Must say im happy i dont have these on my e89 Z4) 5 Seals... I have the same Gummi Pfledge in my detailing products box. Its even soid in gas stations here where i live. Easy to get and have. Every now and then go over the seals after detailing or have a handwash/detailing shop do it... 6 Lubrication... Have read about it... Some say that WD40 actually takes in dust and debris that then grinds on the hinges and is actually not good for them. In 4 years i have not even once lubricated my z4 35i roof hinges. I Have checked them numerous times to see if there is any need and they are totally fine. I think Its personal preference if you do it or not. If you do then do it often so dust and crap would not accumulate for long. Or dont do it at all. I was nervous about the top too in the beginning. Not that much anymore. On Z4 problems are mostly broken wire or a hydraulic line you just fix, microswitch that you can buy and replace and the biggest thing is the pump that you can have rebuilt. Of cource if you damage it in a car accident fender bender it totals the car. Again have insurance. I did have a scare once though.. My top had an error when i had forgotten a black small box in a trunk where it should not be when lowering the roof. It got in the way of the roof and roof stopped mid way and would not move. i was stuck in a public parking lot in a city center roof half way tingling. Had my car towed to the dealer where for last time i tried to operate the roof before giving the car to them to remove the fault code. And it worked again perfectly and has been working flawlessly since then. Car probably went to deep sleep or turned itself totally off during towing and that reset the error for the roof. I did try locking the car and walking away to have the car turn off but probably did not wait long enough for it to work and called a tow truck.
Thank you for the heads up. This is what people should be doing for different cars and not just highlighting what makes the car "good. You are awesome man

My BMW convertible is about 20 years old now...never ever have I had the same issues as you do - and I didn't lubricate or maintained anything at all....hmmm but also I put my car into a garage over night...
I would def stay away from WD40. The WD stands for water dispersant; it isn't a lubricant product, it's really just for breaking loose bolts and stuff.

Right now I have a clunking noise that it seems to be coming from the right hand side towards the hinder seats. Is there any rubber material that I could sandwich somewhere to eliminate that clunking sound ??
Same thoughts I knew it. Idk what location you're referring to, so I don't know
My e93 is 9 years old. So far it really never needed expensive repairs. Only the typical service like brakes, oil filter. German quality for a cheap price now. Wonderful car. Diesel consumption is extreme low. 1200km with one fill.
I ordered mine from ECS tuning plus the adapter connectors and used Carly BMW to code out the warning sequence.
My 2008 E93 has Never Given me issues (Ive had it for years)
Just Good Maintence and Great Driving Experience,
Thanks for the video - something to mention is the drainage holes which can get blocked either due to debris or frozen water. this can result in water flooding the electronics in the boot. They drain out each side of the car in the rear... BMW on older versions will open out the holes to allow for better drainage, the newer cars now have this done in manufactuer. Hoping these comments help. I love my version of this car, and have spent quite sometime touring in it in central europe (prior Covid).
Bought an E93 in 2009, had it for 9 yrs, never had any problems with it at all, then bought a F33 428i which i still own, love it.
Great video! I had a Z4 hardtop convertible and loved it. Yes it is expensive. The hydraulics blew and it cost $2K to fix. Thank God I got an extended warranty.
It's no hydralics at a Z4! Maybe you mean the brakes?
In the E89, hydraulics is what operates the hard top roof.
Best way to end off an all nighter studying for midterms
All nighter? How did u do it 😭😭
That's why I made sure I bought a 1995 with a MANUAL top! NO motors, but I still have to take care of it!
I like your channel because it keeps me from buying the BMW I want
😂😂
Same I and that was my dream model to 😥
Not that clever. Just Gotta Know how to maintain stuff if meant seriously. But funny comment like your Humor :D
Nah bro facelift steering wheel is way better looking imo
@@yashmann that's what I thought. But the pre LCI f11 steering wheel is thicker and and bulkier. Lol I might change it back.
The other video is live on the channel :)
I had a 330d cabrio from 2007 to 2010 and a 335i cabrio from 2010 to 2013 and not a single issue. Fantastic cars, a dream
Why'd you upload when I'm still at school 😂😂
Whoops :)
@@VehicleVirals hey VV your vids are amazing been watching since you started. Im about to pick up a 2010 335i xdrive msport this weekend and had a few questions. You inspired me to get this over a 2017 m440i xdrive. Can you hit me up at my cajohnson0417@gmail.com thanks for the support and keep up the amazing work.
Haven't fixed it 🤣 Good job on maintaining your e93 really happy for you
legend hhags
Damn dude i haven't had any trouble with my too yet hooe it stays that way lol
Have mine 6 years. Very very reliable. Injectors will fail at any time over 100k...but this is one of the best practical 4 seater convertibles for not too much outlay...
The drawbacks don’t outweigh the positives.
this is why i hate youtube comments. people stating their opinion like its fact. just read how many other people commented here that they have a convertible and love it. why can't anybody just include in their comment something like "i'm sure a lot of people have a different opinion, but in my opinion...". the reason why is because people like to be super aggressive and try to trigger people with a differing opinion. that's why youtube comments are unhealthy.
I have an e93 and I love it, no issues.
Hi, on 7:51 minutes you talk about that little piece ... Mine broke while still attached ... is it possible to take the broken one out without having to take out the whole big piece (do not know how to call it) and then just snap the new one just like you did ???
Put some double sided tape
Under the roof hinges on each side!
I had a e46 convertible never maintained the roof neither the old owner and it’s been through heavy snow sun rain and never failed!!
All I'm hearing is "It's expensive". I've always been told, if you cannot afford it, don't buy it. And everyone knows BMW's are expensive to maintain
If you (in general) are going to DIY your repairs/installs, don't complain about things being difficult. There is reasons why there are specialists for specific brands of vehicles
Nice car though, certainly takes pride in the vehicle 👌🏻
I hardly experience leaks.
What are the plastic parts that he showed on video 3:29, whats the name of it i lost one of them on my car
5:50 “sangwhich” 💀☠️💀☠️
Thank you
Hey Chris, glad that you included the top trims installation, great job!!💪🏼😎👍🏼
👊🏼
I bought a 2011 Hard Top Convertible. Nothing but issues with the hard top. The car is nice, but one of the arms broke, and caused the plastic piece with the string going through it to break also. It also leaks above the driver and passenger window.
Those are some wicked, sweet rims...
Any ID on them ?
BBS Rims are always cool Plus they fit to pretty much every car
VMR 803s
Mine E93 when i open roof drop roof very hard in storage compartment, like it slam it that whole car shakes ,when i close the roof everything normal
That's so cool Christian, cause I need to do mines! Lol. Ready for the"Why you should get a Hardtop convertible" . You Live in Florida, and I Live in California. That answers our reasons! Lol
💯
Have you ever had problems with the hardtop ever leaking while it rains or if you're washing the car?
Nope. But I have heard using a pressure washer can let water in.
I haven't had to clean the seals or the moving parts on it and it still works like a dream 🤷♂️
brand new M2 Competition or brand new A45s? having a dilemma
The M2
But the most recent A45 in general looks sick in my opinion even way better then the A45 before that one
@@Cookiebreedchannel yes so thaths why im probably going to get the merry
Dababy convertible looks fire tbh Less goooooo
1: Rear lights... Not a problem at all... You dont need them to enjoy the car. They are fine!
2: Trunklid... Have full insurance that would cover it if something happens or just dont brake it?
3 Headliner... bit expensive not deal braker.
4 Hinges... Dont go to automatic carwash ever! Also wouldnt insurance mentioned before cover it if its an accident in a carwash? ( Must say im happy i dont have these on my e89 Z4)
5 Seals...
Who else thinks Christian's new hair style is cool😃
Thanks, that's the first compliment I've received on it :)
Much better looking than Scotty, Doug or Hoovie....
anyone know where to buy the hinge trim cover piece that he had forgotten to put one and then then had to go back and put them on at 8:02mins in?
I used to own a e46 convertible enjoyed it for some time until the motor broke was gonna be 5k to fix it I was like f that 🤕
Yeah man, that's a tough price to swallow.
Thank you for the heads up. This is what people should be doing for different cars and not just highlighting what makes the car "good. You are awesome man
with the number of times he opened and closed the top i wouldnt be surprised if it broke after this video lmao
About to roll the dice and get a 328i E93 for my daughter. Well maintained/records, but still nervous. I may be checking you channel for tips, tricks, guidance.
Damn already bought one lmao
All good!
I own a 2007 e93, and my German car mechanic just said o use garage door lube (lithium grease) and when my roof mech got stuck I sprayed that stuff in, now it opens and closes perfectly
Thank you for your channel it's so informative I learn so much from you I am more hands on in maintaining my car than I use to be, and I enjoy it, so much to know and know a hell of a lot more because of you "keep up the good work"
I will turn into a convertible
I will tun into a n**ga into a convertible
LESS GOOO
my cover came off and broke but can i still use my convertible?
In germany they call bmw b m trouble you. Fyi most germans dont drive them anymore..they aren't as good quality as they they were and way way way too expensive to repair for what it is. Germany loves the paper!
I heard this from several Germans. They say Audi ftw
@@VehicleVirals I have a friend who has a 160k 3ltre diesel audi a6 quatro..no problems.guess what I have...a bmw..I'm ashamed but my bmw way better to drive. I hope they aren't the new alpha
Ugh my dream car when I graduate is a 335i e93 or M3 Hardtop convertible. For now I'll stick with my e92, 175k miles and still going strong.
That's pretty good there were even Engines which which you could do 300000 or 400000 km no problem
Nah I'll just get a DaBaby
My trim in the same place on the drivers side broke off today...currently only 1 of the 4 clips that hold it into place still remain
Damn! That top really looks fragile! Gotta hold your breath everytime you put it up or down.
No you don't, it's not fragile
Glad to find someone that loves his e93 as much as I do. Great maintenance vídeos! Thank you.
Wtf my dad has one and none of these things have ever happend😂
How old is it?
Varun Kamal yeah how old is it
Had a E93 for 5 years, never did any service to the mechanics. Zero problems. Now have a F33 for one year, also no problems.
Here are reasons why you should buy a BMW convertible:
ruclips.net/video/9BEUH-TkdBI/видео.html
I have a 420i 2015 model very similar to the one in the video, How are you opening the convertible with the keyy!!!????
Gummi pflege Stift 😂😂😂😂 Bro you Said That so nicely 😂
:)
Made my day 🤣🤣
Love my BMW e93 coming up to 8 years now touchwood no problem with the roof happy cruising from England🏴
Or just buy one with extended warranty
YES! PROBLEM (that really isnt even a problem if you properly maintain it) SOLVED!
My BMW convertible is about 20 years old now...never ever have I had the same issues as you do - and I didn't lubricate or maintained anything at all....hmmm but also I put my car into a garage over night...
"What if the convertible top breaks?" ... you just now have a COUPE thats it =D no biggy
Simply buy several tubes of silastic and glue the bastard down so it will never open again. I still love these. What other car does this.
I would def stay away from WD40. The WD stands for water dispersant; it isn't a lubricant product, it's really just for breaking loose bolts and stuff.
Well I love mine soooo...I love everything about it 💥
I have a 2008 bmw 328i hardtop convertible in the same color. Got the bmw style 249 wheels on it. Looks beautiful.
