I don't see the contradiction from your example, it's possible for both to be simultaneously true; that a god created life and for it to have evolved since then. Evolution is a theory of how new species arise from other species not a theory on how life began. The big bang theory does contradict with a literal interpretation of Genesis, though there are some Christians (probably most nowadays) who think Genesis is meant to be interpreted as a metaphor, which I agree is a form of cherry picking.
