- Here is Part 2 where we finish this wet trail and check out the scary overlook!!
We take our stock Jeep Gladiator Rubicon and my dad’s Wrangler TJ to the Old Buzzard Roost Rd. (Goat trail). Not sure why people call it the Goat trial. Let us know if you know why. Part 1 showed how to get to the trail. You can get to the trail from I-40, do the trail, go to the Buzzard Roost Overlook, and continue on to I-40 again at a different exit.
If you want to support us on Patreon where you can gain access to our trail/camping locations, etc. as we will no longer be giving that information out to strangers and everyone we don’t know. We have tons of people asking and we want to make sure they are like minded people who will respect the land and not trash it. Also, it takes us a lot of time and research sometimes to accurately locate a lot of these places.

Great video. That overlook doesn’t look as scary on video as it does in person. 😮
Ya it was a huge drop off 😂
Been there many times. Used to ride supermoto bikes through that area.
@@kellyriffle4750 that would be cool! 😎 I have seen a few dirtbikes there!
Spring destination 2024.
A goat trail is probably similar to what we in Virginia call a pig path. It’s the part of a trail that goes straight up as opposed to taking the switch backs. Great video!
As a crawler that goes to Harlan, gulches and good evening ranch as much as possible. Y’all stopping at that puddle was funny. But I understand
😂 im sure you’re used to way more. I do have a couple more videos of a little harder obstacles. 😂 we just get out and run around.
awesome video! definitely putting this on the list.
@@ScoobyCarolan thanks!! It’s a cool little trail. I have a newer video of it out on the channel now. The one party where my dad’s Jeep had a little tire in the air has gotten worse
I’ve seen lots of videos of buzzard roost and this is by far the best. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video. I will be driving through visiting Gatlinburg with my family in June. I will be in my 4 runner but I will have a bike rack with me. I will probably just come from the east side and drive up to the overlook and go back east. From your video, It looks like there’s plenty of room to U-turn and turn around at the overlook. Thank you again I really appreciate it.
Yes I think you should be able to do that in the curve there. The gravel forest road continues west without doing that trail too if you wanted to do that. Of course it would take you a lot longer to get back to the interstate or main roads. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate the comments!!
@@appalachhaun_adventures absolutely. You make such terrific videos, and explaining things so easily. Keep up the great work. What trips do you have planned for spring and summer?
@@itr0863 there’s so many places to go and things to see! 😂 we’re going to be exploring all over TN, KY, VA, NC, and GA! We’re going to add in camping eventually this year too
@@appalachhaun_adventures awesome! Cant wait to see the adventures! God bless!
If y’all ever make this trip again, at 12:37 in the video where you have the yellow arrow, If you would go straight to that road there is a decent size fire tower with a great overlook also.
Oh sweet. I need to go explore put there more! It seemed like there were trails going everywhere out there
Any chance you can explain more about the fire tower? I’ve been out there but only a couple times. Never been able to see the tower. I’m taking my mother this weekend and would love to be able to drive close to the tower. If you could give me some better directions or pinpoint the correct road to it on a map that would be amazing
great video, thanks for sharing your adventure
Thanks for watching and for comment!
We did just past the creek crossing this weekend. It is worse than it looks. I have to go back and do the full thing.
@@nealcarpenter7364 it’s very hard to get the terrain to show up properly on camera! Thanks for watching and for the comment! I have a newer video of this trail up as well. A few weeks ago it posted
Ha Ha. Not for the faint of heart. Quite an adventure. Huge boulders, deep gullies, lots of water.
Great video,We combined a Max Patch trip with Buzzard Roost, they're only a half hour drive apart.
My son did the trail last week with some friends. He enjoyed it - had to use his winch in one section which he loved.
I like the way you wheel man, and with what seems like un-lifted rigs. Gotta tell you, my JTR will NEVER see a lift......not needed IMO. Great vids, great locations and great family. ..............G
Thanks man! I keep scraping the belly on stuff sometimes though haha 😂 I want 35’s. The JTR can do 35x11.50 tires with no lift and no run from what I’ve found. It might save me from tapping the belly on stuff here and there haha
outstanding ❗💯🏆🚙🇺🇲🇺🇲
I'm doing the same here in Oregon. Going out and exploring although it's been awhile. Great video
Thanks! I appreciate it! I’m sure there’s a lot of cool places to go check out in Oregon!
I need to go there
@@scubasteveTN check out my newest video of it. The one part uphill has gotten a little worse. It was a few videos ago on my channel. Still a cool little trail!
You got the best looking camera drone I've seen yet ! 😁 Man that looks like fun ! Good to see you and your family out and about !! I'd like to hit that trail ! Looks perfect for my Z71 !
😂 I wish I had a drone! One day! If you saw part 1 of this trail where my dad’s Jeep had a wheel in the air, apparently that part has gotten worse and harder to get through
Appreciate the detailed directions and not just showing the wheeling. Headed out this way at the end of March and going to hit some trails. Hopefully find some people to tag along with so I don’t have to take the easy routes
I’m always conflicted on whether or not to provide the locations. Although most can be found with some searching around online and RUclips, sometimes I feel as though I shouldn’t share them all to attract too much attention to trails. I’m sure most people are decent and do the right things on trails but some don’t for sure. Lol
@@appalachhaun_adventures No doubt. Too many jerks out there, which is why we all want to escape to beautiful places like this
I definitely want to do this trail, I generally travel by myself I have to be considered of the weather seeing some of the steep inclines. On my last adventure I had too skirt around several trees on a very narrow trail scraping the side of my truck on one as not to fall off the edge. I also had to cut the branches off of a tree That had fallen across the trail the night before as my pick up needs 8 1/2 feet of cleaners to get through with the racks on top. I love never knowing what to expect ahead of me and welcome it but you but have to use a little common sense also. Thank you for your video and the detail I'll be watching your other videos for other ideas.
Thanks for watching 🙏 😊
Just did this trail in my maverick tremor. I can’t imagine what the jeep on the way down the other side was thinking when he saw me coming up. The ruts have gotten deeper too since this video was shot. I was probably in over my head but came out without any problems.
@@jamesberkheimer8736 I just did this 2 weeks ago too. Yes it’s gotten deeper and more difficult in that one spot for sure haha. That’s cool you made it through there if you went uphill the way I did in this video
Another great video. I'm sure the video doesn't do the overlook justice. I'd like to see that for myself one day and will definitely use the goat trail to get there if I make it out that way.
For sure. It’s a huge drop off. It kinda makes you a tad dizzy just standing there looking down at the river! 😂 thanks for watching!
Good video and looks like an awesome trail. That overlook looks big on video so it must look massive in person! I need to get up to NC and check it out! Subscribed!
Hey thanks! It’s a pretty cool trail and overlook!
Great video! We ran this solo probably a week or so before you guys in the snow. I didn't get all the good action shots ya'll did. It's humbling seeing the challenging sections you conquered and comparing it to driving up through the snow and ice and some of the difficult sections we ran into. Had to use the locker on the rubicon a couple of times. I'd heard it called the "Goat Trail" and it really does look like a trail only a billygoat would climb. Another local called it the "Rock Garden", but Old Buzzards Roost trail is definitely steep and slick. I'll try to put a link to your channel when it posts. -Jon@StartBuildingYourDreams
Thank you, sir! I didn’t think of it being called the goat trail because it was steep like that! 😂🤔 I’ll go check out your videos!
This Truly is a Great Video! Gave ya’ll a shout out on Instagram!
@@StartBuildingYourDreams thank you!
good video!!! only advise i have is, please tell your daughter not to throw her trash out on the trails or really out the window anywhere. I ride that area and there is enough garbage already. pack it in pack it out. otherwise great video of a trail I have yet to do. subscribed!
Thanks for the tip. We don’t throw trash out tho. We didn’t let her throw her gum out of the window of course.
sorry i felt compelled to say anything about it. but everywhere you go you see trash. I was hoping someone else had mentioned it. but i read all the comments and any replies i thought might lead to it and nothing. it wasn't that i thought y'all were trashing up the woods but the fact someone could watch your video and come out the other side thinking it was acceptable to chuck things out the window. anyhow, that was the second video of that trail i watched and it looked more challenging than the first one did maybe it was just wetter. @@appalachhaun_adventures
@@tragicnbad ya we see trash everywhere too especially at all the camp sites. It’s crazy how people can’t just pick up their crap before they leave camp! It was a little wet and muddy when we went. Still not that bad tho
Great overview of a road project that should never have happened. But since some of our politicians knew a road was being put in thru that general area, they bought up all that land in the gorge for cheap and then sold it for a premium and forced the project through that area against the advice of all the engineers. They said it would always be a problem maintaining it. And it is.
you realize that riding or driving these roads in those wet muddy conditions will eventually get them closed, seen it happen all to often, problem is folks don't care its all about me and now not what will be the future impact
You realize many trails stay wet and damp and the mud holes stay wet and muddy, right? I guess everyone should only go to a trail if it hasn’t rained in a month and it’s all dried up!!! 🙄
Not on your vid but on another you can see where folks are off trail going up a steep hill side, FS don't care they eventually want to close all of it, this just gives them what little ammunition they need
@@waynenix3898 The main problem that most people see is side by sides and the locals. The my trash the camp sites and tear up trails way more than the average off-roader or overlander passing through… who do you think throws TV’s and mattresses down the hills in the mountains? It’s locals.
You need to let your wife do some of the easier sections, best way to grow her confidence. And don’t make her do all the hard walking up muddy hills. Or streams. 😏
We have been doing that lately. See the video where she drove Offroad for the 1st time. She didn’t want to do it back when this video was made. She doesn’t mind at all to do any of that work to film it! 😂
