The Poughkeepsie Tapes Trailer - Directed by John Erick Dowdle and starring Ben Messmer, Ivar Brogger, Lou George, Michael Lawson, Ron Harper. In this documentary thriller, when police raid a house in a city north of New York City, they discover a profoundly disturbing record of one man's ugly crimes. Investigators find over 800 videotapes shot by the killer which present a visual record of his murders in all their horrifying details. Both state and federal law enforcement teams sift through the gruesome images, looking for clues of the slayer's identity, the identity of his victims, and where he could possibly have gone. But repeated viewings of the material reveals little beyond the terrible facts of the crimes, and as the authorities comb through the madman's images, they find the tapes have had a disquieting effect on them.

Exactly. There is nothing in other realms or dimensions that can compare to humans. I use to think animals were brutal until I realized… They’re killing out of survival and natural instincts. Humans do it by choice.

I’ve seen loads of horror movies, even the ones that everyone seems to be traumatised by such as the human centipede and felt nothing. I rarely get disturbed by any horror movie but for some reason this one really got to me. It’s not for the faint hearted or someone that hasn’t seen much horror, this movie is really disturbing. It’ll leave you thinking it’s a true story.
its because the movie make you become the killer.
you are the one torturing innocent people, you are the one enjoying this.
and then at the end you are in the eyes of someone else and then you see this man escape without a touch on him.
@@elsamontalvo8198 not really. But it could based on what many serial killers did. (Albert Fish and Jeffrey Dahmer are what comes to my mind)
I’ve seen like one horror film then I saw this 😂 whilst creepy I don’t think it’s really that bad as what seems to get me most (whilst a cheap scare) is jump scares of which there were none.

Niloufar Moezzi pretty sure it is. when i looked it up it said they didn’t identify the killer it was based off of but the clips and tapes they show are real footage from the serial killer. they can do that in movies because if you’ve seen the nuremberg trials they have real footage from the concentration camps and it’s kinda graphic but not really
I just watched this movie on Tubi on my Night Shift. Working in the medical/ phycological field for so long, watching the news everyday, reading about and listing to crime content, researching the dark web, etc, Really takes a toll on your perspective on these matters. The scary part is to think that it’s something real, happening in this rotten world we live in, And yet the part that got to me was when one of the victims was so physiologically disturbed that she believed the killer really loved her. 😪 very disturbing.
You're in the medical field and you spell the way you do? Don't ever come work in my ER.
yess, i know, that part made me sick too, you can literally see in girl's eyes how traumatized she was😔😔
Well, she is the only one whom the killer left alive, and after her death he took her corpse with him, so i think it really was some very perverted version of love)

Guys...I am not exaggerating. I am literally shivering and so creeped out. This is a brilliant movie. Very little gore, but so depraved and so realistic. ya its sucks imo no message not art just trash
@@tayslayer1260 Yeah, that's what scared me. Not the movie itself, but the fact that someone like this could actually exist. Also, please be careful yourself
I'm not scared because of the movie itself, I'm scared because it can happen in real life.
It has happened a few times that I know of. I discovered this movie based on reading the stories of Colleen Stan (victim of one instance) and David Parker Ray (perpetrator in another set of kidnappings/tortures). There is an audio tape David Parker Ray would play for his victims when they woke up in his 'toy box' (chamber). He made the tape since he was abducting so many women it was easier to play the tape than to give a long speech each time, explaining 'the rules'. I read the transcript of the tape and I had about 2weeks of REALLY disturbed sleep. The things he did to these women still haunt me. He also videotaped all his victims torture sessions. The woman w/ law enforcement tasked with transcribing these tapes committed suicide as she couldn't get it out of her head. Life can be beautiful and generally people are great, but there are some folks walking among us who are so beyond evil. It is really stomach turning, sickening stuff. The Toolbox Killer is another one. The audio tape of him and his buddy (Norris) torturing one of the girls has never been released to the public but the FBI uses it to desensitize new agents and prepare them for some of the awful things they will come across in the line of duty. A transcript of that tape is on the internet as well and it really put me in a depression for a bit. I hate the morbid curiosity some of us humans have. This kind of material is like a forbidden fruit you know you shouldn't put in your mouth but you are so curious, and then you are so regretful afterward. I think it's a desire to understand the 'why', but there's never a satisfactory answer. It's just pure evil.
I felt the same way about final destination. There are a few scenarios that I am scared of to this day. Driving behind trucks carry pole like objects, fire escape ladders, and sinks that have a built in blender.

It's scary to me because although a serial killer with this high level of skill to cover their tracks is unlikely to ever exist, people still get kidnapped, tortured, r*ped, and killed every day; the thought of getting kidnapped by an unstable, mentally ill human being and being forced to endure horrific acts until they eventually die is very real and more common than most people realize. Especially the scene where the woman gets into the police car with him, unknowing that he was the local serial killer until it was too late and she couldn't escape so she just started crying, screaming, and panicking for help despite there being no one around who could hear her or save her, that felt very real to me and it horrified me. However, I respect your opinion.
Fvck you Toshiro, this is movie is hella disturbing.
@@starrk2716 people react in different ways so if he doesn’t find it disturbing then it’s fine but this movie is disturbing though it’s way more disturbing than Megan is missing that’s for sure.

I just watched this again last night and I personally feel like this is one of the most effective uses of the “found-footage” format.
So I guess it's been 16 years since this film was released. Still, we couldn't deny how much this will have an impact on future generations to come. The Poughkeepsie Tapes is not just a horror film. More like an insight into the mind of someone who basically takes advantage of people's weaknesses and mess around with their psyche for his personal entertainment. Though everything is fictional starting with the footage and everything, this could very well happen in real life. People can be messed up. Just when you think everyone has good intentions, you're wrong. There's complexities to be analyzed and sorted through.

I notice the man in the Dempsey interview sound just like the killer and you can see she remember his voice and that's why she start to talk a lot because he told her to say what she wants.

I can usually watch a disturbing horror movie and sleep that night like a baby. This movie kept me up all night... That last interview was traumatizing. Fair warning though, the conclusion of this movie will piss you off. You will not feel satisfied, only traumatized and pissed off. Still a good watch though, I have a lot of respect for the movies that actually manage to make me feel like that.
You have to have experience to watch this movie, it's really breathtaking and sickening
I like how i come from Poughkeepsie and it just makes it even scarier
The way Cheryl was tied up looked so painful.
I remember back in 2007 when I was 15- this trailer was showed before RZ's Halloween. The studio company ended up pulling it from theaters because it was so grotesque. I thought the footage was real back then, lol. But, one of the scariest movies I've seen- along with Amber Alert(2012), and the Hangman (2015).
OMG THIS MUST BE THE BEST THING I’LL SEE!! I ALREADY LOVE THIS SM!
I still remember going to see the movie ‘I am legend’ in the theater and this was one of the commercials and it truly freaked out the entire audience and i remember people were jumping and screaming to this commercial.

I watched this movie and I'm gonna be honest I watch a lot of movies about murders both fictional and documentaries so I was not honestly scared watching this movie. But what actually is scary is the fact that things like these happen in real life. I have heard about stuffs like ghost and supernatural beings from my childhood but my parents had always taught me that the scariest thing in the world are the human beings and their mindset. This kind of movies just bring out that honest truth.
this movie was written by 2 guys who were trying to come up with a story that would freak people out. That's it. Stop saying these things happen in real life.
