We would play and sing this song during my Civil War reenacting days. Lots of great memories! A lot of my "pards" have past and gone, but this song keeps them near me. Those youngsters really know how to have a great time! Thanks so much for this version to a beloved song!:-)
This is a fantastic performance of old time music played the correct way with clawhammer style and bass. I played in an old time minstrel band "The Allendale Melodians“ medicine show using Christies Minstrel Manual. We never sounded this good. Bravo guys bravo
Yes, this is undoubtedly a classic. The timing, the beat, absolutely perfect. I have listened to everything I can find of this band based on this track but they don't seem to be putting much out these days.
Such a gorgeous, clean, and vibrant version of such an awesome hit. I couldn’t stop my foot from wildly stamping;). My new favorite video. Thanks a bunch for sharing!!
I can't seem to stop watching - and listening - to this fine video! When you see that sweet complacency on the face of musicians when they complete a tune, you know they nailed it.
Fantastic version of a couple of great tunes, with the icing on the cake being how much you fella's are just enjoying the process of playing good music together. Cheers from Australia!
I agree. The Wayfarers bested their remarkable version included on the Fire on the Hillside album. You decide. ruclips.net/video/kDpyoXuRL-U/видео.html
It doesn't get any better than that. I think I saw you guys at the Tennessee fall homecoming at the museum of Appalachia. This is an amazing jam and the video is fun to watch. I keep coming back.
This is one of my favorite old time songs. It to my understanding that general jeb Stuart of patrick county virginia also loved this song. He had a banjo player in his regiment named sweeny and it is said he frequently called on sam sweeny to play Angeline the baker to lift spirits.
I've seen them live twice at the McConnelsville Opra House twice. I hope they keep coming back. The are Ohio Appalachia. Love them. Keep coming back home!
Beautiful recording. Sadly I have only discovered you recently and hoping you are all together. One of the best string bands I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. Impressive 😀👍
+BambiLoo Thanks so much! We had a lot of fun making these videos. Keep up to date with us on Facebook, if you'd like: facebook.com/thewayfarersband. More videos coming soon. :)
This could be the greatest jam ever! Apparently there was one similar at Hagy`s bar near Shiloh TN in the mid 20s but that was only because the Governor was in the mood for a few nips. That said it wasn`t recorded so I`m voting this as #1.
This performance along with Lonesome aces Always been a rambler, Whiskey shivers Shadey Grove and 2nd south Carolina string bands Southern soldier and Dixie are responsible for converting me away from everything I thought was good and into traditional country music. Lost dog street band led me here with their lovely music and you can blame Joe Rogan for the epiphany. I am now learning about Scruggs Claw hammer and I'm getting a 5 string Banjo for my birthday if my girlfriend loves me 😄
great great music - great rhytme. since two weeks i every day play with you - because we would like to play this two tunes a little bit like you....... greetings from switzeland
Happened upon them at Roscoe Village Apple Butter Festival. Drove the next weekend to see them at Zanesville. They are VERY good and a lot of fun! (Still chuckle at the image of the banjo player in a full sized chicken costume for Holloween - LOL)
Wow! That was such a fun time, just listening to this amazing concert! I sure enjoyed that! Thank you so much for recording and for sharing this. God bless, Charlie
I've just found you but I don't even know what to say. My soul is melting. Inside I'm dancing. You make me feel even happier. You're incredible! Can't wait to see you live!
Just love the feel of this, just posted a harmonica version based entirely around this video. It's all harmonica so it obviously sounds very different but I'd like to think I've captured your swing! Great video!
I just listened to your harmonica version on UT. I really enjoyed it as you definitely captured the memorizing rhythm and beat. Great job. Jack Phillips-Eagle River, Alaska
Hi Jack, thanks for the nice comment. I actually recorded the rhythm part with the Wayfarers playing in my headphones cos it's the only way I could lock in to the way they swing. Just love their video.
2024 and i'm playing this on repeat. thank you and hope you guys are still playing.
This kind of music brings me happiness and joy, I love it.
I can't stop listening, l play the fiddle too, you inspire me so much, i am playing at the nursing home soon with my music teacher, wish me luck!

I wish these guys all the best....they are so darned good!
Best version I have ever heard. Please come to Marion NC bluegrass festival in the summer.

That fiddler has perfect pitch. He brings a warm sound almost Cajun. Any time the music makes you want put the hoe down and dance mighty good!
Really like this rendition. Would love to get the banjo tab.
