    It's interesting that many Japanese consumer electronics giants (not just Sony) tried their hands with video games to various degrees. As said in this video, Victor (JVC) worked with Sega. Sharp manufactured TV/console combo devices with Nintendo. Matsushita (Panasonic) was was involved with the 3DO and later made a version of the Gamecube. NEC, who was more known for computers than general consumer electronics, made the Turbo Grafix.

      NEC also made most of the classic developer stations for consoles and arcades. Now, they virtually ONLY deal in Point of Sales systems from restaurants. They are based in Chicago, here in USA. Dunno where in Japan.

    • @fattiger6957
      @fattiger6957 9 месяцев назад

      @@caiusmadison2996 I think NEC is still around. They just focus on commercial or industrial tech rather than consumer products. Kinda like how IBM focuses 100% on corporate clients now since they sold off all their consumer divisions a long time ago.

      @fattiger6957 that's what I'm saying, it's Point of Sales tech. Basically, the computer systems that's help all areas of fast food restaurants communicate via tickets that print out in multiple areas. They're sorta pioneers there.

    in terms of sheer aesthetics I think the RGM-1 is one of the most beautiful looking consoles ever designed.

      Sega Neptune was (would have been?) stunning.

      @@jojosmooth is there a prototype? this thing actually exists and it's so cool. i WISH modern consoles would take a look backward and try to mimic some of it's aspects of design.

    Do you know if the 32X worked with this console? Is it the best way to play all those Sega CD 32X game(s)?

    • @greenkoopa
      @greenkoopa 9 месяцев назад +2

      It doesn't work because of the form of the 32x. The cart slot on this sits in the center, and the pass thru av cable isn't long enough.
      Also the board sits lower in the shell, so the 32x can't reach the cart slot unless you have the shell off

    I have one of these. I couldn't get the Sega CD, so it made for a good alternative. Unfortunately, the CD drive doesn't work. Same with the voice masking for Karaoke. Aside from that, it can still play cartridge games.

    It is worth noting that the X'EYE has by FAR the best Audio & Video output of any Genesis/Sega CD variant, period! My X'EYE has absolutely CRYSTAL clear RGB output & the best sound quality I've ever heard from a Genesis!
    You can tell this system did not have any problem at all with it's capacitors as the ones in mine are original & are absolutely perfect still. They definitely used the highest quality components in these.

    Never realized that Victor and JVC were the same company.

    Awesome video! I never realized that the JVC X'Eye was actually a redesign of this particular system. About 15 years ago, after discovering the JVC X'Eye, and being a huge fan of the Sega CD, I picked up 2 X'Eyes off eBay (before the insane increase of their prices, as well as all retro prices in general). That was right after I had found a boxed, and complete, Sega CDX at a Goodwill, for $25-$50, that even being something I had never seen, or heard of, either, even though I'd been playing video games since the late '80s. I miss the days when you could afford to buy, just to own and play, stuff like that, the games, too, and it was at a reasonable price/cost. Even Goodwill's got wise to their retro stuff, and jacked the prices through the roof, too. Actually, where I live, Goodwill's no longer even puts out the retro items they receive as donations, systems, or games, and they are all shipped to a special new store they have where they sell nothing but that type of merchandise, and the prices are as ridiculous there, as they now are on eBay, or anywhere else. I don't know what caused the astronomical increase in prices for retro systems, and games, too, but it's gotten ridiculous. I've never been happier to have all of those older systems, and games, bought up now, though, because I'd never be able to afford any of that stuff now that I grew up with back in the day, especially the stuff that I never got my hands on when I was younger. Could never justify the cost of all that stuff now, versus 10-15 years ago.

    I own the JVC X eye. It's a nice version of the Genesis/Sega CD.

    I remember reading about the Wondermega and X'Eye in gaming mags back in the day and wanting one, but like the LaserActive, just really couldn't justify the price of either since, like you said, buying the components separately would be cheaper.

    Sega fcked up even more than i knew. It's a wonder they still exist, albeit no longer making home consoles but living on the fumes of their old titles and UFO claw machines etc.
