It’s sad that this console didn’t manage to received well. It is one of the most unique consoles ever made by Sega, and did created some of the most obscure and memorable exclusive games.
I remember years ago I would play the PlayStation 1, my Nintendo GameBoy SP and the Nintendo GameCube and my friends would play the Sega Dreamcast and we would tell each other about all of those wonderful classic games. Cool video. ^_^

I think the fantasy of a Dreamcast 2 is infinitely more appealing than what the reality would be. Sega is not the company it once was back in the day and likely would farm the console out to another company… one that would be the cheapest. I would love a Dreamcast 2 that hd comparable specs to any of the latest consoles while allowing people to insert and play classic DC and Saturn games… just will never happen.
It ultimately comes down to games. Sega has a great library of game franchises they could put on this theoretical Dreamcast 2 console. If Sega could make an affordably priced console with amazing games exclusive to it, then I think it could potentially do well.

Well if it was a proposal for a Revived Dreamcast model than the Dreamcast 2 moniker makes sense it's the Dreamcast V.2 . Though I find Sega wanting to rebuild itself to being a power house in the gaming world again very much a Pipe dream. Even though Sega Dominates in the current Arcade Market space(seriously find a new arcade machine that isn't made by Sega)The Arcade Market is a shadow of it's former self.
Heres the thing, sega was well known for near arcade perfect ports. Arcades aren't really a thing (comparatively) anymore. The ONLY way sega would stand a chance would be to bring the arcade home, have GOOD light guns, offical fight sticks, a steering wheel maybe. Have a virtual mmo arcade, where your avatar walks around arcade machines and plays them, will ease of access to communicate with others. Pay for each game like the virtual console, but you can spectate for free. That being said, I want a new power stone damnit.
I think the Original Xbox is more like the Dreamcast 2, it features the latest sequel to Panzer Dragoon and Jet Set Radio. The PSP is more like an hommage because of the ports.
One game that I loved on Sega Genesis that I would love to see remake of is Landstalkers and maybe Shinning Force, also Sword of Vermillion. and of course Beyond oasis.
The Nomad was SEGA's last opportunity to go for greatness. It was backed by a library of over 1,000 games, 40+ million Mega Drives, and had no competition for several years.
Sega could make a killing if they released a Neptune Mini which would make up for not releasing the cool looking thing 30 years ago. They could put 25-30 Genesis games, 10-15 32X games & another handful of Sega CD games on it all while leaving plenty of extra room for downloadable emulators & ROMs so people could load it up with a lot more games. It'd also be cool if some of the games included would receive minor upgrades and/or fixes to original problems & it'd be even cooler to see Sega finish & release some games that were scrapped because they ended the consoles (32X & Genesis). I was a Nintendo guy back when the Neptune was being teased & I really wanted to get it so I'd pay a pretty penny for something like this. Then hopefully they'd follow it up with Saturn & Dreamcast Minis

The Sega Naomi 2 is the closest we’ll ever get to a Sega Spartan/Dreamcast 2. If Sega did, they would have to partner up with another company to supply the hardware like NEC and 3DO and then they can focus on making the games whilst a bigger cooperation handles the hardware side of things. Making hardware and triple a games today costs a lot more than it did back then. Sega wouldn’t survive if they went back to making hardware on there own. Plus the market is a lot different today with handheld/mobile gaming taking over in Japan and Arcade gaming be a relic of the past. A Dreamcast 2 in it’s actuality also isn’t possible the name alone wouldn’t sell, Power VR no longer exists and Hitachi no longer makes cpu’s. So technically speaking they wouldn’t be able to make one.
I still play (and absolutely love) my Dreamcast... I still play a few old emulators on it, like "Nester DC" and "Dream SNES"... I also burned "Half-Like Gold", "Resident Evil; Code: Veronica", and "Mortal Kombat Gold" way back when. ...I own a bunch of legally purchased Dreamcast titles as well...😋 Anyway, I would still buy a "Dreamcast 2" today! C'mon SEGA... Give us another console... we've waited long enough! But I don't want to see it made with this generic-ass looking controller from the online mock-up... I need to see the evolution of the VMU!

I still don't know how Xbox survived but the Dreamcast didn't. Sega must have been wasting money for years. The Saturn was hard to find and to expensive. It was the only console I asked for but didn't get for Christmas.
The Xbox was BY FAR the most powerful and feature rich console of its generation backed by a MASSIVE fortune in terms of marketing & game development efforts while the Dreamcast was literally the exact opposite... The answer to your question should be brain dead obvious to anyone not a delusional Sega fanboy idiot. 🤷 Halo: CE outsold every single Dreamcast game ever made in literally a matter of days after the Xbox launch. The Dreamcast 2...is the XBOX. Microsoft carried on where they couldn't and SEGA was onboard early to publicly support it with their own titles. Their next-gen arcade machines were also xbox based.
The original dreamcast successor was being built around their latest at the time arcade hardware which turned out to be almost exactly what Microsoft was doing with the original Xbox so rumor has it sega was bleeding money from the hardware division and decided not to compete with Microsoft so dropped hardware development and pooled their resources into software helping make the original Xbox successful
Sega was the reason sony went out and bought all those studios, they were afraid of sega, if the DC had dvd/game drive it would've been a different story, The Ps2 was successful not because of games, but because it was also a dvd player.
SEGA could easily create a new console, if they wanted to. PC components have become more and more interchangeable in the last twenty years, especially this last decade. There wouldn't even be any need for any physical media, e.g. discs, since consoles from Sony and Microsoft that are online/download only have been proven. I think the most costly parts would be designing the shell/motherboard, and maybe a peripheral that'd allow people to play Dreamcast discs (which could again be sidestepped if an online SEGA store sold Dreamcast game compilations). Ryzen processors, even those one or two generations old now, would be perfect. RAM? 8--16GB DDR4, not DDR5, for lower pricing (and 5 would be overkill). The fact that SEGA haven't tried this is telling of their disinterest in going back into the home console market, even though they could become serious contenders once again.
To be honest if I have to think about the feelings I get when playing it compared to the original dreamcast, the Xbox 360 feels more like Dreamcast 2 than the original Xbox just because of the experiences and feelings I had when playing games like dirt 2 and actually some of the Sega games that came out but that's just me I guess everyone else has their own opinions of course
If SEGA really wanted to return to the console business, don't you think Taito or Konami would have also tested the waters for their own gaming systems? Think about it. 🤔
If Saga came out with a new console next week and the price was under $200 I would buy it I wouldn't even expect it to be on par with modern platforms. As long as it's an Xbox 360 I'll be happy

Its not to far off every few years there is a chat about bring up a new Atari or Sega systems etc as companies looking to spend money to get into the market by bring back a dead brand much like tv series they know if they can get it rolling not only do you get money from the series but all the spin off comics and toys - Babylon 5 for instance is to be rebooted like lost in space was. Truth is it be to costly and risky to restart one of these as the dedicated fans have mainly moved to new consoles to renter you need not just the system but a pile of launch games and an anchor game like Mario or Sonic things like Dreamcast and Atari jaguar had their last gasp not likely to be seen again except in emulators unless they come at it brand new like a VR system

I still think Sega gave up to quickly on Dreamcast. It could have been the poor man's console. We couldn't afford a PS2 or the other consoles. Had I not been old enough to get a job I probably would have never got a PS2,Xbox or GameCube. I still played my Dreamcast. I still played it up until 2015. I lived out in the country and all we had was dial up, which most people had when Dreamcast first released. The 56K modem ran surprisingly smooth. I remember playing Quake3 arena and NFL 2K online.

I owned the Dreamcast from it's launch date and don't remember any of this Dreamcast 2 rumor stuff. People who held out from getting a Dreamcast waiting for the PS2 missed out on some very good games. I'm a big PSO fan because of the Dreamcast. I was mainly a sports game person until the Dreamcast. I thought people who gamed and didn't own a Dreamcast were stupid. If Sega would've stayed in the hardware business I would've been there with bells on. I never owned a Sony console that came out after the Playstation. I joined the PC Master race after leaving the Xbox 360.

One of the strangest things still is that SEGA helped with development of the OG XBOX. I just can imagine that "originally" is was only planned as an Arcade Platform (=> as it was the Chihiro later basically it is OG XBOX Hardware with more Ram) like the TRIFORCE from the Getgo from both Parties and afterwards Microsoft decided to make their own Homeconsole out of it (would not be shocking) with a shady "contract trick" as this evil company always did. Otherwise i cant explain why SEGA did that - basically the OG XBOX in the end broke their Neck and was "from a Generation Standpoint" the Dreamcast 2 of SEGA.

I remember when this was a thing. Not only did I think, "Not going to happen!" but I also thought, what's the point. The Sony PSP is the closest thing to a Dreamcast 2. It has Crazy Taxi 1&2, Power Stone 1&2 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max among others

I still don't know how Xbox survived but the Dreamcast didn't. Sega must have been wasting money for years. The Saturn was hard to find and to expensive. It was the only console I asked for but didn't get for Christmas.
The Xbox was BY FAR the most powerful and feature rich console of its generation backed by a MASSIVE fortune in terms of marketing & game development efforts while the Dreamcast was literally the exact opposite... The answer to your question should be brain dead obvious to anyone not a delusional Sega fanboy idiot. 🤷 Halo: CE outsold every single Dreamcast game ever made in literally a matter of days after the Xbox launch. Even the Sega Dreamcast CONTROLLER doomed it failure that generation with its lack of a 2nd analog stick making it USELESS for most 6th Gen 3rd party 3D game development.

The Dreamcast 2...is the XBOX. Microsoft carried on where they couldn't and SEGA was onboard early to publicly support it with their own titles. Their next-gen arcade machines were also xbox based.

The original dreamcast successor was being built around their latest at the time arcade hardware which turned out to be almost exactly what Microsoft was doing with the original Xbox so rumor has it sega was bleeding money from the hardware division and decided not to compete with Microsoft so dropped hardware development and pooled their resources into software helping make the original Xbox successful
Sega was the reason sony went out and bought all those studios, they were afraid of sega, if the DC had dvd/game drive it would've been a different story, The Ps2 was successful not because of games, but because it was also a dvd player.

PC components have become more and more interchangeable in the last twenty years, especially this last decade.
There wouldn't even be any need for any physical media, e.g. discs, since consoles from Sony and Microsoft that are online/download only have been proven.
I think the most costly parts would be designing the shell/motherboard, and maybe a peripheral that'd allow people to play Dreamcast discs (which could again be sidestepped if an online SEGA store sold Dreamcast game compilations).
Ryzen processors, even those one or two generations old now, would be perfect.
RAM? 8--16GB DDR4, not DDR5, for lower pricing (and 5 would be overkill).
The fact that SEGA haven't tried this is telling of their disinterest in going back into the home console market, even though they could become serious contenders once again.

To be honest if I have to think about the feelings I get when playing it compared to the original dreamcast, the Xbox 360 feels more like Dreamcast 2 than the original Xbox just because of the experiences and feelings I had when playing games like dirt 2 and actually some of the Sega games that came out but that's just me I guess everyone else has their own opinions of course

Its not to far off every few years there is a chat about bring up a new Atari or Sega systems etc as companies looking to spend money to get into the market by bring back a dead brand much like tv series they know if they can get it rolling not only do you get money from the series but all the spin off comics and toys - Babylon 5 for instance is to be rebooted like lost in space was. Truth is it be to costly and risky to restart one of these as the dedicated fans have mainly moved to new consoles to renter you need not just the system but a pile of launch games and an anchor game like Mario or Sonic things like Dreamcast and Atari jaguar had their last gasp not likely to be seen again except in emulators unless they come at it brand new like a VR system

I still think Sega gave up to quickly on Dreamcast. It could have been the poor man's console. We couldn't afford a PS2 or the other consoles. Had I not been old enough to get a job I probably would have never got a PS2,Xbox or GameCube. I still played my Dreamcast. I still played it up until 2015. I lived out in the country and all we had was dial up, which most people had when Dreamcast first released. The 56K modem ran surprisingly smooth. I remember playing Quake3 arena and NFL 2K online.

well .. its the peoples fault ,, if its not the people them self who ignored SEGA & the dream cast .. and went running after the PlayStation 2 with their tongues out like a hungry dog ,, the SEGA consols would be still alive until today ,, & its not the first time ,, people did the same thing with the Saturn & went for the N64 instead ,, causing SEGA to lose more money already ,, even SEGAs game street of rage 3 people kept nagging & complaining about it until the company closed the project for 25 years ,, & then later after years people will come asking & bagging for things to come back ,, its to late to regret it now ,, there's nothing the dream cast 2 will give more than what the PS5 giving already .. even SEGAs games are already there & with xbox .. what else the dream cast 2 would do more ? That was Capcom not Sega. And Capcom doesn't make another because Power Stone was garbage and didn't sell well, I know some people love to think that because they liked something it must have been massive, but Power Stone had 2 chances and didn't sell.

I owned the Dreamcast from it's launch date and don't remember any of this Dreamcast 2 rumor stuff. People who held out from getting a Dreamcast waiting for the PS2 missed out on some very good games. I'm a big PSO fan because of the Dreamcast. I was mainly a sports game person until the Dreamcast. I thought people who gamed and didn't own a Dreamcast were stupid. If Sega would've stayed in the hardware business I would've been there with bells on. I never owned a Sony console that came out after the Playstation. I joined the PC Master race after leaving the Xbox 360.

One of the strangest things still is that SEGA helped with development of the OG XBOX.
I just can imagine that "originally" is was only planned as an Arcade Platform (=> as it was the Chihiro later basically it is OG XBOX Hardware with more Ram) like the TRIFORCE from the Getgo from both Parties and afterwards Microsoft decided to make their own Homeconsole out of it (would not be shocking) with a shady "contract trick" as this evil company always did.
Otherwise i cant explain why SEGA did that - basically the OG XBOX in the end broke their Neck and was "from a Generation Standpoint" the Dreamcast 2 of SEGA.

And Microsoft isn't anymore "evil" than any other major multinational tech giant. 🤷 Sega has ALSO done MORE than its fair share of ruthless and "evil" business tactics/maneuvers! @@nujevad28 That was 1 Generation before (SEGA Naomi and Naomi 2 Platform). It was really specialized for the Dreamcast and was actually smart because of the Web Browser and Email Client capabilities. The Arcade Platforms didnt had that for example.
