  • This how-to video shows some of the realistic and prototypical train operations on Model Railroader's HO scale Bay Junction project layout. Executive editor Andy Sperandeo will also describe the accurate placement of model signals and other trackside details on the layout. The Bay Junction is part of MR's Milwaukee Racine & Troy HO scale model train layout, which features DCC digital command control, realistic scenery, great detailing, and weathered structures to represent modern-day Wisconsin railroading.

@nardp96: The complications r not from the scale, they're from the ppl who built the layout. The signal system described & the operations shown r part of an attempt by the MR staff to create a model of a working RR. So, they install the necessary details & perform the realistic operations necessary to make their layout a working model RR. Part of the fun of model trains is not only to run them, but to run them just like the real ones do.

love all of the grousing about switching speeds shown on the video, anybody ever hear of time compression in a video? (notice the slight jumpiness) Else, the video would be 30 minutes long, accurate, but 90% of the viewers would bail before 1/2 way shown.

crossovers are marked with double headed interlocking signals (two arm in signal talk) you can also put a signal bridge near the crossover as long as you use the two arm signals single track is marked with a single headed signal to mark the ends of sidings and an interlocking signal marks the start.

@RandomFilmsSgf It's just a suggestion because I really don't know how to create an HSR type layout, but interested about it. My actual plan for a layout is to have a German/American theme railroad in either HO or O Scale (3 rail). I made my plan because I wanted to mix the love of American and European prototypes on one layout.

I've only recently found this channel while looking at war gaming terrain and would just like to say how good the ground work looks on this layout. The detailing at track side with the transition between the grassed and the gravelled areas is particularly impressive with an extremely high level of realism. Excellent stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Working as a locomotive engineer I tend to be "nit pickey" about "our" hobby. With that said the train dispatcher cannot open an electric lock. They can only give us "permission" to open the electric lock and give "authority" to enter the main line. Please beleave me when I say it's no big deal it's just me. Great layout (wish it was at my house) and video, please keep up the good work.

One would think a group of guys who make good livings playing with their favorite toys would take more pride in the videos they upload. These low quality videos are the pits. Why not re-record them with currently available cameras so your audience doesn't have to squint or wonder what's on the screen? Smart phones and tablets make better quality videos than what MRM uploads.
