Way back in the 60s and 70s, my paternal grandparents both used to train GSDs/Alsatians as guide dogs for blind people, predominantly as, back then, they more in fashion. Granted you tend to see more GRs and Labrador, but you still see a GSD/Alsatian guide dog, due to their intelligence and usually calm demeanour, & temperament. I am not surprised that a GSD can open doors. My grandparent had a stable-style kitchen back door, and had to attach a little 'fence' contraption to stop their last dog, Juno, an Alsatian, from jumping over the top of the bottom half of said door. You never could let her off the leash outside, as the result; on more than one occasion, my dad spent a good cursed-filled hour, chasing her around the 1+ acre front garden, whilst turning the air purple, before he finally caught her by her collar; watching her body language, she always had the time of her life when she did, as she always stopped just long enough to let my dad get close, before doing a 'happy bark', and run off again ... Granted, at first, she was a bit of an ankle biter, but even young me was able to take her for walks ... (My grandparents retired to a former farm house, in Suffolk, England, and was surrounded, on three sides by seperate arable farms, hence why it occupied some 2 1/4 acres of land. Best part was when a field right 'next door' was planted with peas. Even in the late 80s, the harvest could only gather so much, leaving a strip roughly a foot deep, but the width of the field. I used to help go out, and pick what was left; nothing quite like peas literally fresh off of the field, cooked, and eaten that day. Even frozen, you could still taste the difference, but shelling that much was a right pain in the thumb ... happy days ...)
... and - importantly - a STRAIGHT back. I know some GSD breeders are being ethical and breeding for the straight back of years gone by but way too many do not. How about that poor slope-backed German Shepherd who won Best of Breed at Crufts in 2016? She literally looked disabled!
it befuddles me why anyone would cast a thumbs down for a totally innocuous video with two types of doggies. BTW, my wife and I ran across a King a few summers ago while shopping in Westport, CT for a wedding gift. A woman and her daughter parked on the street in a convertible with this massive dog sitting in the back seat. They both got out and went separate ways while the dog just moved to the front seat (drivers side) and sat there "like a king". People went out of their way to steer clear of the car and some crossed the street. I laughed as I approached the car staying about four feet away while talking to the dog. He crossed over to the passenger seat closer to me. He really wasn't paying much attention to me but was looking at other people who were afraid. I inched up slowly, put my hand out and he licked it profusely! His owner came up and said "oh aren't you the brave soul". I looked at her and said why? She said he was a total baby and loved to be petted and talked to but very few people would even attempt it. That's when I first learned about the King Shepherd.
No just bred with the dogs that have blue eyes and back over a 10 yr period to get the desired look. Like now they have the blue shepherds. Or blue wolf dogs f2.
There were also 4 bloodlines of wolf in the foundation stock, and were a large breed with NO roach back like the show lines from the 1950's and worse today. I was blessed to grow up with them and had them most of my life. Few breeders today maintain the original standard.
Family friends had a king Shepard. We went over there house to swim and when they let her out she was barking a lot and ran to the side of the pool we were in. It was scary but then the owner just opened the lids to the side of the pools so she could look for frogs. Super friendly dog.
My son has this breed of German Shepard and he is terrific! Big, big boy! 125 lbs. Had him since he was a most adorable puppy. You do not want this breed in a small indoor area. That would be cruel for both of you. They are very intelligent from a very young inquisitive age. If you do not (like other herding breeds) keep them exercised and consistently training every day= as a puppy; you will have chaos on you hands. You really need to love training or really willing to learn how to train a dog. Very playful, loyal, loving, sweet, mischievous when bored. Not too stubborn when trained like some breeds. Triple layer coat; "Bjorn" lives in the mountains with his guardian (my son). Hot climate would be intolerable. I would cry to see this kind of beautiful spirit made to be a mean dog. He is sooo sweet, goofy, and gentle. He can be protective. Onetime their landlord tried to come in at 5 am without notice. Bjorn gave a warning bark .he still proceeded. As he was coming in, Bjorn lightly nipped him on the hand as a warning. No blood. No one told him or showed him to do that. That is a smart dog. He knew the man but he knew he shouldn't be there
I am 65 and this is the first that I have heard of the King Shepherd. Reminds me of the 2 Shepherds that Stuart Whitman had on 'The President's Man' with Chuck Norris. Good video and loved the music, thanks for the informative video, like to see more that can help you make a decision between 2 dogs.
I have a King Sheperd, he's so freaking smart. I taught him non verbal hand signals when he was a puppy and he even knows English and German commands too. I work crazy hours so I take him to my parents when I go out of town and twice he has woken my mother by licking her face when her blood sugar dropped to low. If my niece and nephews come over and someone knocks or comes over he will stand on guard in between them instinctively. When we go for walks he knows to sit and make eye contact with me before walking across the street. He's a monster who costs more to feed then myself lmao, seriously I try to spoil him with neckbones, raw turkey legs & wings, he freaking loves sardines, and liver. Bastard won't even touch dry-food now but his coat is so shiny and soft, and he's happy, healthy, and energetic so totally worth it 😍
And thank God he won't touch dry food. It's mostly junk, including soy, and dry food has a waaaaaaay higher bacteria/mold count than wet food or raw food. Good for you for taking such good care of him.
We have a German Shepherd/King Shepherd. Mother was a registered GS and father was a KS. She has all the exact characteristics of a GS but she's a bit larger at around 100 pounds which is large for a female. Extremely intelligent and great with kids but a bit standoffish with other large dogs. Fine with smaller dogs. She is quite vocal as most GS are.
I have a 150 lb King German Sheppard but he does not have that long hair as seen on the video. I have had three regular Sheppards. My King I named Einstein. He is so gentle and nice. Some of the neighbors children ride him like a horse. He is kind with other dogs unless they bite him. Then it is all I can do to keep him from killing them. He loves almost everyone. He is so profoundly intelligent and loyal. My landscaper cam in the door and I was sleeping on the couch. My landscaper said Einstein showed him every tooth in his head. So he just locked the door and backed out. Einstein hates being left alone. He has more friends than I do. People will come over just to get on the floor and play with him. He is so beautiful and affectionate. If you ever get a chance to purchase one, take it. His only negative is he sheds his hair unlike any other dog I have ever seen. He is as close to being human. I have no idea what I will do when he passes away.
It's not called a King German Shepherd. It's called a King Shepherd... and they all have long hair. Maybe, you just have a large male German Shepherd that has been overfed.
I’ve had both breeds! My GSD was actually the “more ferocious” of the two but my King Shepherd was HUGE!!!! Both were AMAZING dogs! I have another GSD and he’s a total momma’s boy but he’s very protective of me!
If the German Shepherd only gets 8/10 for livestock and property guardian then which breed gets a 10/10?? I think you would be hard pressed to find a dog that is 20% better at it than a GSD. They are about as good as it gets
My German Shepard is 100 pounds at 8 months old and he’s not fat or anything just large and I’m starting to think maybe he’s actually a king shepard. I have no idea
You really should hope it's a German Shepherd because the King Shepherds are considered mix breeds, or mutts. They' aren't recognized by the American Kennel Club as purebred.
R RAHMAN Intelligence wise, yes. The original German Shepherd Dog would clearly win. But if it were a physical fight, the King Shepherd would win. Both are great dogs with their own cons and pros.
Christian Macri So have I. Let me tell you, I currently have a king shepherd. He is much bigger and more muscular than the average German shepherd. No fighting genes? You’re wrong. Yes, King shepherds on average are much friendlier and compassionate with other dogs. But that depends on the dog and how it was raised. My king shepherd is very friendly, but would be more than willing to fight for his life or my own.
@@necrot9693 The King Shepherd in my eyes is a mut. Its a cross breed of many dogs that don't have much reasonable attributes. The King Shepherd holds zero advantages on The Alsatian, besidses overall friendliness. This applies to only strangers making the King Shepherd a shit guard dog, as it mentioned zero DNA cells relating to guarding passed on from the Alsatian. This also means your Gs will protect you with its life, while your "more muscular" King Shepherd will greet its intruder with a fat kiss.
Christian Macri Did you not read the last part of my comment at all? Yes, some king shepherds are shit guard dogs. But with the correct training, it’s another story. I’ve actually had a break in happen at my house before, and if it were not for my ks defending me, I would have been stabbed.
I've had the privilege of owning both. The information given here is mostly wrong! How the hell can they state that King Shepherds look 'horrific'?!? If that's not the understatement of the decade. Every time I walked mine (RIP), people would pull over to inquire and say how beautiful he was. It got so bad that I used to only do long walks at night so we weren't constantly interrupted. To say that GSDs are friendlier to strangers and other pets is another pantload! My King LOVED all other animals, big and tiny, right down to my Sugar Gliders. He could be wary of strangers he didn't know, but once he knew you, he was a buddy for life. My GSDs (if allowed) would chase any/everything that moved. Not my King, he mostly paid no attention to small animals. (Most) GSD pups are notoriously hard to train because they have a mind of their own, are easily distracted by outside stimuli and are very much about pleasing themselves - I'm not talking about simple behaviors, such as shake, sit, down, etc. I'm speaking of more complexity, as in heel, stay, off, leave it, etc.. Kings are all about pleasing you. My current GSD, when a pup would rather chase leaves blowing in the wind then walk properly on lead - even if a food reward was involved. My King's focus was solely on me - reward or not. A GSDs trainability goes up as they age. A Kings is there from the beginning. Their 'facts' are all a HUGE load of crap!
I think the King Shepherd would be the better dog. Smaller number of breeders generally dedicated to breeding the best Kings they can (but there will always be a few that breed for money and not quality dogs).
@@foilist1 Never will it even come close to acquiring the developed traits of the German Shepherd, imbeded into the dog centuries before that mut was ever bred.
Had many German Shepherds over the years, from childhood to adulthood, lost last one about 2 years ago, I’ve owned 3 as an adult, Last was a rescue only had him last 3-4 years of his life. Love the breed and most of mine with minor exceptions have been excellent, smart & very obedient. Had one that was neurotic & never settled down. Most of mine were generally between 90-110lbs if healthy. Always had males. The King Shepherds look interesting, but the long fur could be problem in the southern region I reside in. I would love to get another GS, But we already have 4 dogs now, One is another rescue that wandered up a couple years ago, And recently got my daughter an Australian Shepherd, he’s only 12 weeks old, cute little guy. So I won’t be getting a German Shepherd for myself any time soon.
I have a GS and an AS as well. They do well together despite my AS being much smaller and was almost killed by our Rhodesian Ridgeback, so he's a little standoff-ish when the GS tries to rough house. They still get along well the GS is very aware of the size difference and never bullies him, he will even allow the AS to get the stick when playing fetch, never tries to take the stick always waits until the little guy is done with it. Your's should get along well
I have a friend with a king shepherd and he's a big (100+lb) lovable, smart, goofball with all the personality in the world. He's an extremely active boy who needs a lot of exercise, hours every day. If I had enough property and could afford the upkeep for such a big dog I'd have a king shepherd in a minute.
I always wondered why my King Shepherd is bigger than the other GSP's (because I didn't know there was such breed). I took him to GSP club and because of his size (When she was for example 3 months old, he'd be seen as a 7 month old GSP) the trainers asked me to put a muzzle on him.
E. P. Span, Sorry to disappoint but they are not equal in many ways. The King Shepherd could never be a police dog because they don't have the agility, and they are not as intelligent as the German Shepherd pure bred.
Robert A. Lofgren Jr. I agree. I highly doubt that they have the same drive, agility and intelligence as a working line German Shepherd. (Not those ugly and purely bred show line GSDs you saw in the video)
You couldn't possibly expect to maintain all of the characteristics that were achieved from decades if not longer of selective breeding after making several rank outcrosses.
@@roberta.lofgrenjr.9182 My female king shepherd is extremely intelligent and agile and bigger than a normal female shepherd the male on the other part is way too big.
My last breeding male GSD was blanketed black with tan. Weighed 115 lbs, 28 inches at the shoulders. Plush coat with his tail dragging on the ground. Friendly with other dogs & kids. Therapy for aggressive dogs that wanted to bite & he'd just stand. Pretty soon, those dogs calmed down. Wonderful protector, you'd leave to, seeing his black face coming. Gentle, powerful, obedient, fun-loving and a love. So, since his blood line was all titled German lines, I guess he'd be a King. Lol. In our years of breeding, he was a king.
Seems like they are both nice dogs.As for them claiming the King is just a mutt, all breeds started off as mutts.Even your Favorite. The main difference is some mutts were deliberate with a purpose. While others were/are accidental.
On the KS, the 1 ding on the Ease of training probably comes from the Malamute, they are very independent and somewhat hard headed. Very interesting breed comparison, did not know of the KS's existence till i saw this vid
@@salmeatballs3182, Very true, the higher the intelligence the more intensive the training to ingrain what you wish for proper traits. GSD's though are also independent as well having been bred as a working (herding dog)means they (like the malamute) may have to make decisions without input
I have a king shepherd and I'd like to rate his protecting our property 10/10 a runaway criminal was running in our yard and he hunted them down. Very lovable don't get me wrong. All he wants is love. But he will protect us.
King German Shepherds were bred from regular German Shepherds selecting for size. Genetically they are the same. The problem with the over-sized GS was their hips/elbows were not able to be certified normal.
It's not called a King German Shepherd... it's called a King Shepherd, and it has other breeds in it that aren't in the German Shepherd. One of those breeds is a Malamute.
My neighbor's adult King shepherd unexpectedly attacked our equal sized but still puppy 1 year old Great Pyrenees. It does seem like an aggressive breed. They were sitting side by side waiting for a treat when it suddenly attacked. Those two would have fought to the death if we hadn't broken them up.
Great pyrenees is a provocative dog just like the jack russell and some other grumpy dogs ,,i wouldn't be surprised if youre dog somehow provoked him ,,,

So a 100 % accurate statement ! German Shepherds are stable ! Other odd stranger dogs ""Maybe""" a 5 out of 100 % maybe 6 % stable ! Maybe ! Lol ... Well, awesome video !
No thanks, cleaning after my regular German Shedder is enough as it is, but she's so worth it.. Maybe I'll save it up and fashion together a fur muppet some day 😊
I had a king shepherd named Benny. She was the cutest little thing ever she was so hyper but boy oh boy did she shed on our little couches there you be a huge pile of fur on the side she sat on so we basically took our vacuum and vacuumed her fur. she got pretty big. We unfortunately had to give her to our uncle because we moved away
I've lived and worked with German Shepherds for most of my 60 ish years. OK I'll admit I'm hugely biased, based on the opinion that you could not get a finer all round 'general purpose' working dog. Trustworthy, reliable, intelligent, fearless, dependable, excellent with kids and family, but an intruders worst nightmare. Max von Stephanitz dedicated his life to bringing the breed standard (in Europe) to the canine perfection it is. It is pure arrogance to even attempt to change it.
@@dhartvig Consider taking a properly bread working line German Shepherd and your only different from the original is 20+30 extra kg and a psi that can crack the thigh bone in quarters.
@@ttangerine485 I have one of those. He is out of a female from German working lines that I imported. An all round athlete and protector. But so many of those dogs bred for show are physically defective; Roach backs weak rear ends from over angulation, bad hips, and DM. My Haramosh is PennHip evaluated in the top 5% of the breed. He is also a foundation sire for the King Shepherds. The problem is not the original idea of breeding a bigger stronger well built dog as the King Shepherd was supposed to be. The problem is there are now breeders breeding to crappy large malamutes just to ad size with no attention to anything else. I have given up on the King Shepherds. They will never be a recognized breed.
I made my recent vlog about finding out that my dog is a king shepherd and not a German Shepherd. I’m so shocked that they cost so much! We only got him for 100 dollars😂💀
It’s clearly a a German Shepard owner who made this video word choice is poor facts are mostly off and favoring the GSD. The king shepherd is almost 75% GSD with two other breeds that are just about 50% GSD meaning this giant beautiful king shepherd is just as smart, loyal, kind, Protective, as a GSD but with all of the bonuses of the other breeds and non of the illnesses of inbreeding a.k.a. Pure blood GSDs. I own, owned, and will own GSDs my whole life but the dream is to make a king my last shepherd. Other then the bias it’s a good video
Actually I don't want a friendly dog but a guard dog, who is going to kill to protect the family. So why you always have to lie about dogs? A friendly dog who plays with a kitten is a minus not something I want to have. Sick world.
King Shepherd isn’t a real breed, they are mixed with Great Pyr. Solved it for you. GSD’s aren’t supposed to be 100lb+ animals. Working line Shepherds are probably on the 60-90 lb range. My WL GSD is a large girl (kept fairly lean) and is 65-70lbs
Me and my mom got a king Shepard a week ago and we knew he was going to be huge but he’s only 15 weeks now and just as tall as my Australian cattle dog is at 4 years old lol. This is going to be fun.
How can people compare a gsd with a king shephered. GSDs are the third most famous ranked dog in the world. Can anyone please let me know the rank of A KING SHEPHERD .
I don't know about the latter, but my paternal grandparents (long since passed) always used to get their GSD to 'prewash' all the plates. Still had to wash them in soapy water, though ...
our gsd knew how to use a key, so he could get out of the house if he wanted to (no we didn't trained him doing so), but he kept everything in check and took watch..soooo I'm not sure with the wine if not^^
I have a big Shepard with massively thick coat a wider and deeper jaw with large, wide, teeth and will crush aheavy bone easily yet is almost dainty hand fed.I was told he was a new deveoping breed of German Shenpherd called czechoslova-king red though he is mostly black his long feather like fur is.quite long behind all4 legs chest and belly and has super dense thick fur around his whole neck that is mostly bite proof he couldn't be strangled or hurt by anyone or attaking animal. He is very protective of me devotedly loyal and will posture fiercely fast yet I easly taught him to never bite a human unless comanded to by me he is far and away the smartest and strongest dog I have ever seen the breed isn't accepted yet but I think everyone will want this type absolutely the best on the plànet!!!
I had no idea that I had actually gotten myself a King Shepherd until a couple of years ago. Everyone just thought I had a bigger than average GS. It's everything though, the straight back, the fluffy plume tail, the long coat, the hair on the thighs that make it look like he's wearing shorts lol and the big fluffy face that makes him look like a bear. People always stare at him-not sure why!
A agree, they were developed as Herding breed, but these multi talented dogs are now well appreciated as working dog- mainly for Police and military jobs.
That's because there's 3 different varieties south Europe working strain smaller and agile. Middle Eastern Europe big and imposing with larger shoulders like mine is. And of course the American strain which has a sloping back. I'm not sure about the white ones because I hear Canada use them for heading.
@@ebddenby8439 - You are correct. Initially GSD were developed for herding but now days they are widely used by police and security agencies and well recognized working dogs.
Never herd of king shepherd, as much as i know, there are different types of GSD. Coat lenght and colours are different, so are show and working lines. Had two of them, great dogs. I also have a mutt with GSD blood and colour but smaller and it is not a GSD. Guess i should register it as a DWARF SHEPHERD.
I've never heard of the so called King Shepherd ! This is the Long Haired German Shepherd called the BELGIAN SHEPHERD ! I KNOW BECAUSE OUR LONG HAIRED GERMAN SHEPHERD WAS A BELGIAN SHEPHERD ! THEIR BLOOD LINES ARE FROM GERMANY !
King Shepherd indeed 😂😂😂 there's only one German Shepherd / Alsatian ( same dog ) short or long coat ( same dog ) large or small ( same dog ) all GSDs should have nice firm straight backs unlike the bad shape breeders are producing now with hips that resemble a child's play shoot ( so wrong ) .
I think the size of the GSD as portrayed is off. My first GSD was purchased in Germany from working line, he grew to be about 105-110 lbs, his son from a nice AKC bitch was rock solid at 115-120 lbs. When I was living in Germany, they did all seem to be a bit bigger.
Valerie DeMello that's because in germany they are more related to the working line. We don't want our dogs with a companion purpose to be unhealthy (the banana spine, thigh dysplasy or higher risk of cancer). They are highly regulated to keep the breed in shape, not so in U.S.A. were looks goes over use. There the showline is more used and not for good, but that's a different story.
Have nothing against this new breed of shepherd, since 1990s. I've just read how they too can easily develop hip dysplasia. So it seems to me if you want to create a bigger german shepherd without the not-good-for-the-dog sloped spine, you'd care enough to take the time to breed out the dysplasia since it too is caused by improper breeding. The main difference is the size.
I was today years old when I discovered the King Shepherd.

There were also 4 bloodlines of wolf in the foundation stock, and were a large breed with NO roach back like the show lines from the 1950's and worse today. I was blessed to grow up with them and had them most of my life. Few breeders today maintain the original standard.
Great breed. Loyal, smart, intelligent, etc. Mine's 12 years old now and my next dog will be be a Shepard also.
Oooh a new breed but still the same german sheperd is still my number one!!💓💕😘😘😘😘
Me too!😍😍😍💓💓💓
German shepherds are Great Dogs
@COBRA one That's considered new. The gs was out centuries before them
king shepherds are just mixed gsd
Same
I have a King Sheperd, he's so freaking smart.
My German Shepherd says,"Hello", and she has a good size vocabulary when it comes to understanding what people are talking about sometimes.
Maybe, you just have a large male German Shepherd that has been overfed.
as long as they are big soft and fluffy that's all that matters love them all my little darlings

King Shepherd is a giant dog breed, while German Shepherd is just a large dog breed.
My German Shepard is 100 pounds at 8 months old and he’s not fat or anything just large and I’m starting to think maybe he’s actually a king shepard. I have no idea
scam
You really should hope it's a German Shepherd because the King Shepherds are considered mix breeds, or mutts. They' aren't recognized by the American Kennel Club as purebred.
What about the problem of hip displacia with the shepherd versus the king?
This is so cool! What app did you use to make it?
Nothing can beat the original German Shepherd Dog.
R RAHMAN Intelligence wise, yes. The original German Shepherd Dog would clearly win. But if it were a physical fight, the King Shepherd would win. Both are great dogs with their own cons and pros.
@@necrot9693 The King Shepherd has absolutely zero fight gene, the gs does. It beats it in fight, i.have owned both breeds.
German Shepards are by far the best breed of dog. They are loyal smart and beautiful dogs.
You haven't owned both. Trust me, You are so one sided to the point I don't think you owned either.
Yes, that got me too. "Horrific"?🤔

Had many German Shepherds over the years, from childhood to adulthood, lost last one about 2 years ago, I’ve owned 3 as an adult,
Last was a rescue only had him last 3-4 years of his life.
I would love to get another GS,
But we already have 4 dogs now,
One is another rescue that wandered up a couple years ago,
And recently got my daughter an Australian Shepherd, he’s only 12 weeks old, cute little guy.
I think king shepherd is the long-haired GSD breed
odonde susan it’s part that but these are giant dogs a family friend has one and it’s a beast way bigger then a regular long haired one
King Shepherds also have husky in their ancestry, so they aren't pure GSDs.
Deborah Middendorf hey are alaskan malamute and german shepherd in them
Deborah Middendorf That is why it's called acKing Shepherd. New breed. re-watch the video.
Annie the GSD This was addressed in the video.
I always wondered why my King Shepherd is bigger than the other GSP's (because I didn't know there was such breed). I took him to GSP club and because of his size (When she was for example 3 months old, he'd be seen as a 7 month old GSP) the trainers asked me to put a muzzle on him.
I've never heard of A King Shepherd, untill now...Cool 👍👍❤🎗
I got soooooo choked up watching the German shepherd guard that little girl 😍🙌😪
Basically: King Shepherds are just big German Shepherds. They're both equally great!
You couldn't possibly expect to maintain all of the characteristics that were achieved from decades if not longer of selective breeding after making several rank outcrosses.
or a gsd could be like the prince or princess shpeherd
I just saw one king Shepard today! Walking with his owner!

Seems like they are both nice dogs.As for them claiming the King is just a mutt, all breeds started off as mutts.Even your Favorite. The main difference is some mutts were deliberate with a purpose. While others were/are accidental.
Finally, a logical person who understands dog breeds and their history. Thank you for not being like the rest of them.
Exactly good point
On the KS, the 1 ding on the Ease of training probably comes from the Malamute, they are very independent and somewhat hard headed. Very interesting breed comparison, did not know of the KS's existence till i saw this vid
The smarter the dog the more chance of them having a stronger personality. My King is definitely the most stubborn dog I've ever had.
@@salmeatballs3182, Very true, the higher the intelligence the more intensive the training to ingrain what you wish for proper traits. GSD's though are also independent as well having been bred as a working (herding dog)means they (like the malamute) may have to make decisions without input
I’m tryna see what Shepard is the best breed King, Shiloh or German

What do you call a Shiloh Shepherd bred from unapproved roots? ----> Poser? Counterfeit? King Shepherd?
I've lived and worked with German Shepherds for most of my 60 ish years. OK I'll admit I'm hugely biased, based on the opinion that you could not get a finer all round 'general purpose' working dog. Trustworthy, reliable, intelligent, fearless, dependable, excellent with kids and family, but an intruders worst nightmare.
Max von Stephanitz dedicated his life to bringing the breed standard (in Europe) to the canine perfection it is. It is pure arrogance to even attempt to change it.
Idk man they both are great. I personally like the king shepherd s little bit more but that’s just biased because s family friend has one
Todays GSDs look nothing like the original Shepherds.

The GSD is part of the AKC Herding group, not the working group.
A agree, they were developed as Herding breed, but these multi talented dogs are now well appreciated as working dog- mainly for Police and military jobs.
Mike Beaston Exactly. They are a herding group hence the ShepHERD. Yes they are working dogs for those who actually work them. 😀
That's because there's 3 different varieties south Europe working strain smaller and agile. Middle Eastern Europe big and imposing with larger shoulders like mine is. And of course the American strain which has a sloping back. I'm not sure about the white ones because I hear Canada use them for heading.

There are a lot of large German Shepherds... they don't need to be King Shepherds to be large.
Irish people don’t call it Alsatian that’s wat d brits do
Have nothing against this new breed of shepherd, since 1990s. I've just read how they too can easily develop hip dysplasia. So it seems to me if you want to create a bigger german shepherd without the not-good-for-the-dog sloped spine, you'd care enough to take the time to breed out the dysplasia since it too is caused by improper breeding. The main difference is the size.
