I use Altruist SPF 50 + which has phenomenal filters and really great vehicle but when it comes to stubble, it really gets sticky and balls up around facial hair. So thank you - gonna try those Japanese ones as well!
Anybody who thinks it's over-the-top to apply sunscreen on the scalp never had sunburn on their scalp. I learned it the hard way: it hurts. Also when the scalp starts peeling, that ain't fun either. I don't care when people make fun of me for wearing large brim hats, sun glasses and gaiter in the summer. Sunburns are not fun!!!!
I have a couple of friends who have gotten skin cancer on their scalps and let me tell you it’s kind of traumatizing to have large portions of your scalp removed. 😳

Fragrance is such a personal preference! I remember when I heard about Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. Everyone and their mother was raving about the smell and how good it was. I finally found it and prepared myself to be carried away to a tropical island. Instead I got hit by the overwhelming smell of fruit that had been left out in the sun for too long and had started to juice itself... So, yeah... That cream has not found its way to my bumbum...

For those who cannot purchase skinsmart spray (like me in Canada), the brand tower 28 has a hypochlorous acid spray at Sephora, albeit it is a little more expensive.
Banana Boat has a sunscreen that is the consistency of water. They used to just call it sunscreen. Now I see they are marketing it as a scalp sunscreen. It’s SPF 30. I saturate a cotton ball and run along my part. My husband and male friends use this on the body because it doesn’t clump up in hair like lotions do. You might want to try it in the beard area.
My bf has the same problem. His skin tone is quite deep, EltaMD UV Sport is the only mineral combo formulation we've tried that doesn't look like he has white face paint massaged into his face/beard (after rubbing it in for a minute or so), but he says it stings his eyes when he sweats. He really loved Purito and it looked sooooo beautiful on his skin but their UV protection didn't hold up through independent testing :( I hope they fix it soon. A dense beard is good UV protection though!
I can totally understand that. I have a friend who is black who has very dark beautiful skin and she really likes Vichy SPF 60 , says it has no white caste.
@@acewingate6993 Japanese and Korean sunscreens might be the best for POC with facial hair imo. Some are drying but they go on like a dream. It’s so hard to find the golden egg of sunscreen when you’re brown :-(

It's not an Overkill to talk about putting sunscreen on the scalp. I haven't been in the sun much but I ended up with a basal cell carcinoma on my scalp.
3:42. I buy the Canmake from amazon. The manufacturer says amazon is only like one of two authorized distributors and they include a sort of authenticity statement in the package when it arrives. They also sometimes include a coupon leaflet and a sunscreen sample. Next time i order some i will send you a picture.
I watched your videos on rosacea and I’m trying some of the products you mentioned. I was so uncomfortable that I had to start Doxy (low dose) twice a day to help reduce the inflammation. I’m hoping to find continued relief with a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen, and avoiding triggers as I learn which triggers affect me. So glad I found your channel. Using a (clean) makeup brush helps me apply cream sunscreen to my scalp. Just keep parting the hair and going down the lines, and then use your fingers and hands to work it in all over.

I love using Altruist sunscreen for my body. I'm so glad that you introduced it awhile back. It's been one of my favorites. I've also enjoyed Cotz SPF 35 tinted for my face over EltaMD SPF 41 tinted (after it dries). I've really liked using Hadalabo Gokujun All in One UV White Gell SPF50+.
The "Make Prem" made my skin feel like I was suffocating, it dries on the neck and it's an awful feeling. And I really like the Neutrogena gel type sunscreen, but oddly it would migrate on my face and right into my mouth, like tasting and eating sunscreen entire day. I'm liking the dermology tinted sunscreen spf 46 and love Cetaphil tinted 20 spf wish it was at least 30spf
I'm a road runner and I just started running in the Adrenaline GTS 21. I absolutely LOVE them. However, I added the superfeet dynamic soles to my shoes because I overpronate quite a bit. But I think it's a great, supportive shoe and it comes in wide.
I added Superfeet insoles to all of my athletic shoes at the recommendation of my podiatrist! I have a habit of spraining the tendon in my second toe on both feet when I do leg workouts-Superfeet insoles really help!

I live in FL, where today at 11:12 am the humidity is at 100% and the gel ones are a godsend! The Skin Aqua (white pump) is awesome for arms, feet, legs!!! Really feels like you're wearing nothing.
Totally agree about putting sunscreen on the scalp. I've always had fine hair, went in my sister's pool numerous times when younger, not thinking my scalp would even be affected. Found a couple of weird looking "bumps" on my scalp in 2019. My PCP sent me straight to a Derm dr who biopsied the areas, came back showing basal cell carcinoma on one of the areas. She sent me to a Mohs surgeon. He removed the one area, didn't like the looks of the other area, biopsied it himself, had me wait & sure enough the other area was cancerous too. They were fairly large areas he had to remove & had to go deep to make sure he got all the cancer. One area had to remain open & heal from inside out, the other he put just a few stitches on either end but it was open in the middle. Of course you know the removal of pressure bandage, cleaning, applying Vaseline to areas & rebandaging, which my husband did. Now I have 2 "craters" near the back of my head where no hair will ever grow again. I was diagnosed with alopecia by the rheumatologist I had to see when I became disabled in 1998. So now I wear wigs if I go out but I avoid the sun like the plague! I just have a family member buzz the hair that's left, since I've lost quite a bit of it after having surgery in 2014, total hysterectomy in 2017, then the cancer on my scalp. Think the anesthesia may have had something to do with losing so much in a short time.
What are the odds thay you would mention the gold version of Skin Aqua 2 days after I bought it on YesStyle?! I've been using the white version for over a year now and I love it. It works really well with my oily skin. Even my boyfriend likes it because it's not sticky and spreads well.

Can you please make a video for us few unfortunate people that are getting paradox hyperpigmentation from tretinoin (even if we are religiously wearing sunscreen) :-( what is the cause of this? just genetics, or too strong concentration for our skin..? is there nothing to do about it except stop using retin-a, or can we try to combat the discoloration by combining tretinoin with other ingredients like vitamin c, hydroquinone etc? if we need to stop using tretinoin what should we use instead? would love to see a video on this since retinoids are basically the gold standard of anti-aging.... If you go to the website there are a pair of glasses called the Sydney under the Traveller style. The frame is the same shape, however, it is not black. It’s tortoise shell on the top half of the frame and solid pale peach on the bottom half. I suspect it is what is left of the original choices.

My whole family is vaccinated except for the grandkids, but we still wear masks bc all stores, restaurants, doctor’s offices, etc have signs on their doors forbidding entry without a mask!

However, if California drops it as well, I will continue to wear a mask, bc no one knows how long the vaccine continues to work! If it’s like a flu vaccine, it will wear off within six months of inoculation.

I'm a road runner and I just started running in the Adrenaline GTS 21. I absolutely LOVE them. However, I added the superfeet dynamic soles to my shoes because I overpronate quite a bit. But I think it's a great, supportive shoe and it comes in wide.
I added Superfeet insoles to all of my athletic shoes at the recommendation of my podiatrist! I have a habit of spraining the tendon in my second toe on both feet when I do leg workouts-Superfeet insoles really help!

Happy Saturday everyone! Dr Dray, I live in a hot climate so your advice on the gel vehicle sunscreens is going to help greatly.
I live in FL, where today at 11:12 am the humidity is at 100% and the gel ones are a godsend! The Skin Aqua (white pump) is awesome for arms, feet, legs!!! Really feels like you're wearing nothing.

Totally agree about putting sunscreen on the scalp. I've always had fine hair, went in my sister's pool numerous times when younger, not thinking my scalp would even be affected. Found a couple of weird looking "bumps" on my scalp in 2019. My PCP sent me straight to a Derm dr who biopsied the areas, came back showing basal cell carcinoma on one of the areas. She sent me to a Mohs surgeon. He removed the one area, didn't like the looks of the other area, biopsied it himself, had me wait & sure enough the other area was cancerous too. They were fairly large areas he had to remove & had to go deep to make sure he got all the cancer. One area had to remain open & heal from inside out, the other he put just a few stitches on either end but it was open in the middle. Of course you know the removal of pressure bandage, cleaning, applying Vaseline to areas & rebandaging, which my husband did. Now I have 2 "craters" near the back of my head where no hair will ever grow again. I was diagnosed with alopecia by the rheumatologist I had to see when I became disabled in 1998. So now I wear wigs if I go out but I avoid the sun like the plague! I just have a family member buzz the hair that's left, since I've lost quite a bit of it after having surgery in 2014, total hysterectomy in 2017, then the cancer on my scalp. Think the anesthesia may have had something to do with losing so much in a short time.
Thanks to you I learned that there's a name for the sun induced rash that I get every late spring or early summer. I had no idea! Thank you!

I bought the jacket in white and I like it. I do still feel hot in full on sun but I doubt anything can be done about that for someone who is hot natured. The jacket is very inexpensive and worth trying.

what is the cause of this? just genetics, or too strong concentration for our skin..? is there nothing to do about it except stop using retin-a, or can we try to combat the discoloration by combining tretinoin with other ingredients like vitamin c, hydroquinone etc? if we need to stop using tretinoin what should we use instead?
would love to see a video on this since retinoids are basically the gold standard of anti-aging....

HI Dr.Dray, I have fine hair and just recently I got a sunburn on my scalp...uhhh. My fave scalp sunscreen is Supergoop Poof mineral part powder broad-spectrum SPF 45. I have blonde hair so it works very well (the powder is white).

If you go to the website there are a pair of glasses called the Sydney under the Traveller style. The frame is the same shape, however, it is not black. It’s tortoise shell on the top half of the frame and solid pale peach on the bottom half. I suspect it is what is left of the original choices.

My whole family is vaccinated except for the grandkids, but we still wear masks bc all stores, restaurants, doctor’s offices, etc have signs on their doors forbidding entry without a mask!

However, if California drops it as well, I will continue to wear a mask, bc no one knows how long the vaccine continues to work! If it’s like a flu vaccine, it will wear off within six months of inoculation.

Gosh, I was just looking for summer skincare tips because my routine which (usually works) doesn't seem to prevent breakouts during summer here in Japan. Summers are real cruel here.

Just got my new pair of Brooks Glycerin shoes and LOVE them. I can keep running like Forest Gump. However I take their inserts out and put in the Dr. Scholl's sports insoles for women. They're green with a purple flower on them. Very cushy.
