    I also like the under the seat facing back mount. That makes for an interesting shot.. However, editing multi-cam footage can be a challenge.

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  7 лет назад +1

      Have you ever hit the camera with the rear tire? I've destroyed one when the rear tire came up on my full suspension bike :-( Yes! The editing does get to be a pain with all this footage sometimes.

      I saw a trick where you clap your hands or make a loud snap 3 or 4 times after you started recording on every camera. When you put the footage in a video editor you can see the the snaps in the audio profile as a way to sync the footage

    Fantastic stuff Gene! I love playing around with different camera mounting positions and you showed me a few new ones I'll have to try out. Any recommendations for on bike mounting solutions that can hold up to aggressive riding? I've bought a few no-name brand mounts from Amazon but so far they have been less than impressive. Also don't forget the "under the seat" mount to capture riders behind you and sometimes, your own behind. Hey now!

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks Jordan! So I've been very happy with the SP Gadget mounts that my buddy Mike has turned me onto. There are two that I'm using. One is held onto the bike via a velcro strap. The nice thing about the strap is that is has rubber on the back so it really keeps the camera in place. The other is held onto the bike via a tie wrap. I don't use the tie wrap that they supply and just use my own. You do bring up a good point man around stability. All these mounts are nice but you also need good quality "J" style adapters that actually connect the camera to the mount. I've had my Session bounce down the trail once because the darn plastic adapter snapped in half! Other then trying to stick to name brand ones, I don't have much more to offer. If this video takes off I'll try reaching out to vendors to do some more reviews :-)
      Without trying to sound to much like a used car salesman, there are affiliate links to those mounts in the video description ;-)

    Hay thanks for pointers. I really nead to get around to trying some more things. Some of these work great and would not be expensive for me to implement. One of my favorite shots that you didn't mention was chainstay looking forward. Seth's bike hacks has used that effectively several times going over jumps it really shows the air, and the way the suspension unweights and the feet unweight and then the landing.

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  7 лет назад

      Good call man! So I've tried that once and hit the camera with my foot. I'll try to reposition it and see if I can get some better results. Thoughts?

    • @otr-mtbandfitness
      @otr-mtbandfitness 7 лет назад

      maybe you could get a similar result from the rear of the seat stay, just turning it to face forward? Has to be pretty low.

    Take your suspension mount and put the camera on the side of the frame and you can actually see the fork moving up and down and get some trail footage at the same time that’s one that I’ve used so just face it forward

  • @pixxel8637

    well, but for multiple angles you need multiple cameras.. shit I only have one action cam :D
    Also, for editing with multiple cameras you can use Davinci Resolve (free), it's a nice editing software which also has multicam editing which looks like this:

      It is a great chest mount, but I do have to tell you something. Now that I no longer use a gimbal and run a GoPro 7/8 using their software stabilization I am back to a light weight chest system. I do not need the added support the Stuntman offers since these cameras are light and don't bounce much at all. Just thought I was give you this info ;-)

      Oh I hear ya man! Actually, that's one of the reasons I stick with the Session now. I'm going to try to stick to just the 2 GoPro cameras on the rides. My Silver in the gimbal and the Session will just get moved around a lot. It's taking me to long to edit video because of all the footage I have to look at!

  • @1pho3nixmatt
    @1pho3nixmatt 7 лет назад +1

    Hey Gene, I like putting my second camera on the seatpost pointing backwards. Picks up the top of the rear tire and terrain just ridden like you said on the chainstay, but keeps it safe from rocks and other camera-smashing things. Nice vid!

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  7 лет назад

      Good call man! So I've tried this in the past and have had the following issues. Let me know if you have some tips...
      1. I have a dropper seatpost so the camera gets moved to close to the tires sometimes.
      2. I have actually destroyed a camera after landing a jump because the rear tire came up and smashed the camera. I'm riding a full suspension bike.

    • @1pho3nixmatt
      @1pho3nixmatt 7 лет назад

      Hmm yeah that's no good huh - I too ride a full squish with a dropper but it is old and only 100mm of travel (both the suspension and post) so it stays out of the way enough. Guess trial and error, or rather test-fitting is the best bet here. What about mounting on your pack facing back? I think Seth did that a couple times..

      Wow man I'm very sorry you view this video as nothing more then a commercial 😦
      I did take a lot of time to show how each angle would help produce a specific shot and which product I used to make the shot happen. Sadly, you will need accessories to get cool shots sometimes with action cameras and I was hoping to show people how this all worked so they didn't waste their money on items that do not perform well. This really was not attended to take peoples money in any way at all.

    How do you stabilize the video

    • @rgmtb
      @rgmtb  5 лет назад

      So sometimes I just don't and the the added camera movement looks cool for the short "B Roll" type shot. You can't use it for a long time because people will get sick of watching the screen jump around like crazy. Short clips that are well placed look cool. Sometimes the completely smooth stuff looks a little fake, ya know what I mean? I also sometimes use the software stabilization in my editing program. Just understand that these shots are specialty shots and recording your entire video like this might not be to cool. Now with the GoPro 7 you can get away with much more because it's hyper smooth actually works pretty good.
