For anyone who gets sore palms on long rides: This plagued me for years and about 18 months ago I tried the Ergon grips with the "wings" favoured by round the world type cyclists. GP1 is the model I have (It looked like SQ had something similar) but there's many different configurations/sizes. Its a complete winner and I don't have the pain anymore , quick easy and fairly cheap fix, that's made my ridding so much more enjoyable. 🙂 Also bars with more back sweep like they said in the video was another winner for me. Hope this helps somebody out. 👍
i tried those years ago... worked to relieve the exact point of pain in my hands but caused a mayor problems in terms of the main gripping strength ... it was a nightmare in heavy rocky terrains so I finally went for good quality silicon grip. I totally understand the benefits for someone more marathon oriented thou
This is something I’ve struggled with for years being a taller rider. Only recently I have been able to an XXL frame and feel far more comfortable now. I may think about trying SQ labs out for a full fitting especially for the ebike
Hey Adrian. It's quite a common problem we're seeing. So many people spend forever trying to buy the right saddle. SQ Labs took great care of us, and we can only recommend getting a professional bike fit like this. 👍
Brilliant ! Been trying to understand saddle comfort and setup for a long time. If my ass is not comfortable, I don't feel the discomfort is worth the ride. Especially when there's lots of climbing. Great video !
Wow what a fascinating video. I can't think of a RUclips video where I gained more valuable insight. I had no idea how much more information there was to account for when setting up my bike. Thank you sincerely
I have been testing the SQLab 611 ERGOWAVE for the past month and also the CHROMAG Trailmaster LTD. Both feel great, but you definitely need to get the tilt dialed, as even the slightest over or under-tilt makes a big difference. Also, I am a huge believer in backswept bars. Been running 20 degree back-sweep, 780mm bars for quite a few years and they are just right for me.
Always loved the backsweep on my citybike but at some point it interferes with my knees. Have a bit of backsweep on my steerer on the mtb but it never feels 100% comfortable
I had too wide of a saddle on my bike, it kept pushing me forward. It made me have to push myself back every couple of km's. Got measured and found a proper width saddle and my degree of comfort rose significantly.
This was a great video and will be interesting to see if you yourself will follow the advice on the grips especially as this was just contradictory to anything we are told about grips but its more common sence the shaped one's will be comfortable. I for one would love to get all this tested out as im old skool ive not rode a bike for a few years now after a bad injury on my DH but wanting back on the saddle now! Everything's changed now though its been a goot 12 to 15 years and life aswell, i so desperately want back on a bike im just lost on what bike to start back out on? I'll be going somewhere trial and enduro this time for sure so im lead to believe watching these videos that is what I'm looking for?! But the trail bikes don't look near as good and yeah the cool factor does still apply in my book lol
Great video. Super informative/helpful. Went through a number of saddle and settled on an SQLabs with Infinergy tech, also have carpal tunnel so have replaced to a more comfortable alternative bar.
Thanks for the share, this is a fully commercial bikefit with many goot points we are making artisanal fit sessions based on the motricity of the rider swiss sport school and it is far modern and revolutionary. Materials fit are not based only on classic measurements but on your physio motricity, energetic zone preference .
I have to say there is a reason to use round grips for certain situation you employ different hand positions. So having either ergonomic or round grips is a compromise but, the length, diameter and grip material can all be the same.
The biggest mistake we see in our shop (where we do bike fits), is that people buy a bike, then book a bike fit. GET YOUR BIKE FIT BEFORE YOUR BIKE 😊 There is only so much you can do to help people when they have the wrong bike, and it can be expensive to change lots of parts. We use a lot of Ergon saddles and grips 👍
Good video! it is rare with good bikefit videos. But I would like this video to be without sponsors, so we can see your honest opinion on how big of a difference it ACTUALLY makes..
I got SQlab 6OX Ergowave 2.1 about a month ago and I think that it is little better than my old Fizik Argo R5 but I am still not sure if it is 100€ better.
I also used the 611 on my MTB for some months, but I had to switch to an Ergon model. I also have now an Ergon on my road bike, but on the long-distance city bike I have one of the more comfortable SQ Lab ones and am very happy.
I've had a 611 active saddle for some time, along with 411 innerbarends. Just received my SQlabs 311 16deg bars and the V2 innerbarends that I put on the bike last night. See how I go, but may have to go a bit longer with my stem. All great products!
oh its all massively important, myself i feel much more comfortable when those bones are seated better, & with the correct handlebar & grips you can lock yourself in between the saddle & bars, if your serious about cycling then this video is a must.
Any help with flat bar width ? I’m a 6’3”slim OG, my flat bars are 720mm wide on an XL Sirrus. Obviously it’s different to race bars but there has to be something out there. Even this video skipped the width bit !
Very interesting, makes a lot of sense for an xc rider. It would really be hard for me to set up my bike for going up instead of going down. Mainly changing my bars and stem.
I wish they where over in the USA so I could bring my family and our Mountain bikes and get all that stuff done for us. So for now I’m going to there website. Great episode Thanks
Great insight on a bikefit it does make a difference but on the other side of the fence once you stand up the bikefit goes away frame size saddle height and positioning must be right to be right on the bike way to run hot Rich
Great video. I've noticed the wrist pain whilst riding and would love more backsweep on my bars but can not find any 12 degree back sweep bars in 35 mm all 31.8 or lower. Do you know if there are any in 35mm? cheers
I struggled with saddle soreness well pain really for a good couple of yrs before after I stumbled on an add from SQ Lab on social media in Aus. Upon contacting them then doing required tests in the questionnaire flier they sent out. I purchased two sets of chamois & the appropriate saddle that was measured to me. I noticed pretty much straight away that my pain was disappearing. To the point that after a few rides my ass was really enjoying what I was doing. That pain just upped n went. Game changer for me. I also got bike fitted when I purchased my bike but not to the point what I saw in this article. Does SQ Lab have a similar flier sent in the mail that hi lites it’s go to points 😎🇦🇺🤙
It would be excellent if all bike shop's had these scanners etc for the right fit i myself afrer a few years off the bike after an injury on DH im wanting to return to it i miss it so much but soo much has changed in the bike's im absolutely lost whare to start now! I am 5.10 and seeing these video's are a great help says i need a large then you'll go watch someone else a private video of someone and their bikes and they say a small to med is perfect for them! (AS THEY CHANGE GEAR WITH THE KNEE) lol
Great for XC and Road, but doesn’t translate the same with Enduro style riding. The problem with SQ Labs scientific data and perfect body position is that it works good for flat trails and road bikes, but there’s a lot more going on when it comes to Enduro and DH riding, which means your up off the saddle smashing downhill. This changes everything SQ works to perfect with perfect body position in the saddle.
So, the previous videos Doddy has done, are correct? Tilting the saddle slightly downwards, and getting the upsweep and backsweep correct are still the best advice, along with now another new saddle, bars grips and shoes…
Saddles are very personal but the SQ labs 611 is the worst saddle I've ever ridden. Seems like a good concept, but I felt like I was constantly sliding forward off the saddle. If I tilted the saddle up enough to get rid of that the nose was so high to cause uncomfortable pressure. One ride on that saddle messed my lower back up for days.
I swear to god, i didn't even see that this video was posted and not 10 minutes ago I posted on reddit r/bicycling asking if anyone knew of any places in my city for me to get fitted for a saddle. This is crazy.
Why do seats still have that stupid front section designed over 100 years ago that just gets in the way especially on DH when trying to drop the bike into a corner ! ! ! ! (and I'm sure I'm not the only one that has had it poke me in the back (or worse) when trying to get off awkwardly on a failed pinch climb etc.)
I thought this video could have been better. It went through everything so quickly. Like you didn’t show the knee relative to the pedal. Thank you though.
I was pleased to come across a bikefit vid for MTBs but this one dissappoints. A good proportion of time was spent on the saddle but very little on the cockpit, and nothing about handlebar width. My understanding is that the ideal is for handlebar width to match shoulder width so that the arms aren't splayed. Now whilst that suits road riding it doesn't give the control needed for hard core MTB-ing. Where did +/- 740mm originate from which is on every new MTB? Luke says that width, height and backsweep are important, but then leaves it at, they're personal! Width and height affect reach, which inexstricably impacts on the pelvis, and therefore power, and cause back, neck, and hand pain. None of which is covered. Also, looks to me like your arms are locked out when seated. Hey, but I'm not the expert.
handlebar matching shoulder width caters to ROAD bike fit, mountain bike is so much more dynamic, and you need leverage, it's also dependant on what kind of MTB, XC focuses on uphill and technical descent, whereas Enduro and DH are about control, descent, speed, etc. With an XC Hardtail as such, an Orbea Alma, he needs to balance saddle, feet and arms/hand position, which is why his arms seem to be extended and locked. He needs to be able to freely move around and flex the arms as needed. This is the opposite of a relaxed and even flexed position that you need to have for Enduro or DH.
always have a hard time picking a bike size, im farly short, 1,73m, but i have ridicilous long legs for my height, 81cm inside leg, thats why for me size L usually fits the best, even tho according to my height a M would suit me.
I have the opposite problem, 170cm and my legs are... somewhat short, and so I have a short inseam and have to manage with Small sized 29er hardtail and do some tricks with a long negative stem.
Try talking about something random near your phone or smart tv. See how long it takes for related content to show up in your feed. You don't even have to say 'hey siri' or 'alexa' first.
My friend put this bike together for his son and before I knew it he was done ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L When the son came to put it together he was surprised to see it was already done. All he had to do was take the bike to get air and be on his way. My friend did not have any major problems putting this bike together; small issue was putting one of the brakes on straight; however when the son got home he was able to fix it. The bike rides well gears move correctly; good bike for the price. Wrote review after the son took the bike. Sorry.
I've had lifestyle changing problems from using the wrong saddle. This video is such an eye opener, Thanks Rich!

Fix your bike fit, rather than masking the symptom...
The Luke guy from SQL Lab bears a striking resemblance to F1 driver Sebastian Vettel😜
here comes sebastian vettel!

Definitely interested in more detail about ergonomic insoles
It'd be great to see a video how difference in geo makes a difference to comfort and ride feel, e.g. stack height or reach
This is how to do a sponsored video.
Engaging presenters passing on lots of very helpful information. 👍
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the support! 👊
Great video!!! Best info ever! EVERYONE who rides needs to watch this.
We really appreciate that, Todd! We had a great time and experience over at SQ Labs! Thank you for the support!

It's super important to get the right saddle not just for you, but for the type of bike and geometry. Different bikes need different saddles 👍
What a great experience to get to have! Bike fit definitely on my bucket list.
Rich, excellent video. Can you tell us what size seat is best for what size sit bones, and does it differ for each discipline?
This was a great video and will be interesting to see if you yourself will follow the advice on the grips especially as this was just contradictory to anything we are told about grips but its more common sence the shaped one's will be comfortable. Thanks! Glad it was helpful! It's amazing how much a saddle can transform the comfort you have on a bike. 👍
Please elaborate on your bar choice to address the carpal tunnel problem.
Fascinating… (Packs for trip to SQ Lab for consultation.)

There are adapters available at SQ lab to get the size down to 31.8 so you can use a 31.8 handlebar.
I have SQLab bar ends... indeed these guys understand ergonomics and fitting parts to the human body!
I struggled with saddle soreness well pain really for a good couple of yrs before after I stumbled on an add from SQ Lab on social media in Aus.

knee/pedal position is overlooked these days, but apparently in this video as well. i would have liked a shot from the side. thx for the video tho 👍

Just got the 612 On my trainer bike and it immediately eliminated the public numbness.
I’ve had your saddle and grips since 2017. And I’ll never get them up.
They usually recommend an xl or xxl for me, i always end up going with a medium
how do I set up my halfords bike without buying a £100 saddle
Hello, im 5.6" and 50kg. 17" 29er will be ok for me?
Watching from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
I wonder why they showed some off brand saddle, isntead of ERGON vs SQ labs lol
We weren't designed to ride bikes so just adjust your bike to what feels the most comfortable. If you want to just ride fast, lower the bars.
... or get the recumbent bike 😉
Do they do this in England?
Was it a bikefit video? More like an ad, also the so called bike fitter used KOPS method, huge red flag.
I agree with you 100%
😂 +1
So, the previous videos Doddy has done, are correct?

So perfect seated bike fit equals perfect standing bike fit?
Cheera 🤙
Frame size?
No RAD measurement!?
Oh, it’s XC

i did my own research and ended up with buying from this company SQlab 611 Ergowave CrMo

SQ Lab 60X rules.
Awesome
Thanks, Tomas! We're stoked that you enjoyed!
What's with the White Gloves ? 🧐 lol. good video though on this topic.
Better than Ergon 😊
Have you got a video that someone who isn’t a millionaire can do with bike fit? Having issues with wrists 😢
Bike fit is for new generation bikers rather newbies, it's impossible that you don't know your stress points and what's the solution to it 🤷🏼♂️
Ga damn that’s actually cool but I wouldn’t costs to much and not bothered
Ergon !
I was just browsing SQ labs seats and this video comes up. What kind of witchcraft is this?
Try talking about something random near your phone or smart tv. See how long it takes for related content to show up in your feed. You don't even have to say 'hey siri' or 'alexa' first.
It's magic! 😅

This video isnt much help if sq labs dont offer a bike fitting service in the uk
You can tell it's a sponsored video - someone with something to sell...
Just a whiff of the snake oil.
