So, I'm guessing that Katzlein and youkai/nekomata are just two different terms to refer to the same species of cat people in Teyvat.

@@flamerounin2youkai are spiritual beings usually takes form by imitating surrounding living beings, that is after achieving a certain level of spiritual powers and willpower. But as history goes on, the latest generations of youkai tend to take form from their ancestors and relatives (closest youkai to them since birth/native youkai) that’s why there’s a species of them. To materialize is one thing, to manifest human form is another harder thing to do. Generally speaking they’re spirits that don’t come from dead living beings and can manifest as physical beings.
Unlike Diona who’s basically born from parents or bloodlines of different species (basically cross breeding or alchemically made).
So No, they are NOT the same thing in Teyvat

Probably. Kirara is an actual cat, she just takes the form of a "human" (Which is why she has no ears, and she can't hide her tails) while Diona's blood line are people born with cat abilities.
Yeah actually, go into a dark space and you can see that Kirara has eyeshine like Diona does. Why Yae Miko, Sucrose, Gorou, and Tighnari don't have eyeshine I have no idea.

So I guess the way Kirara differs from Diona relates to how Yae differs from Sucrose? One of them is a Youkai with human/animal forms and the other one is THE animal form.
One is a youkai who got enough power to have human form.
One is just a hybrid.

Really nice touch, even though the characters don't really have different accents, Diona says Katzlein with the Germanic "ei" sounding like the letter I while Kirara says it with the Japanese "ei" sounding like, well, like Ei's name.
I think Kirara were 200 years old when she climbed the tree. That’s why her other tails popped up.

This is a really cool interactions between cat people species and Youkai, makes me interested in the interaction between Youkai and adiptus.

Would be neat to get some Miko and Ganyu, IIRC they're actually friends. I feel like there's a way to use that as an inciting incident for a Youkai+Adeptus crossover event.

IIRC, Fox youkai get a new tail every century they've lived.

So most of Inazuma characters with animal attributes a youkais, like Yae Miko, Kujou Sara and now Kirara.
But who is Gorou? Is he youkai of some kind or is he a half-human like Diona or Tignhari?
There was one post that read about where Gorou could be a inugami(a dog yokai) or a raijuu(which is a dog-ike yokai that serves under the God of Thunder). Either one seems likely

If we talk about speculations of Gorou being based off a Yokai, a common dog yokai in Japanese myth is the inugami which is a yokai based off a dog who usually has a owner they are fiercely loyal to. A quick google search gives some results on deeper lore on these guys. The reddit post was a analysis done after Gorou’s reveal in the patch trailer and theories of what type of animal and yokai he may be based off if.
The other yokai type, raijuu, is also based off a irl myth of a dog-like yokai that served Raijin, the God of Thunder which could tie into Genshin lore as Ei/Makoto having the raijuu yokai fall out of favor over time.

If you realize, diona has the same shape of feet as kirara, but she uses shoes to cover her feet and kirara doesn't.

Technically, Kirara isn't a hybrid. Being a youkai, her human form is just... Well, a form she can take, due to her youkai powers.
Kirara doesn't have cat ears
She is youkai, She can hide or show any of her cat parts, like yae Miko where she hides her tails but not her ears. In this case she hides her cat ear but not her cat tails.

Miko's (disguised) fox ears help her catch people off-guard by eavesdropping or detecting people trying to sneak up on her.
Kirara does a lot of travelling, so cat tails help her keep balance and cat paws are better for running and jumping around a lot.
