I had the exact experience. I’m driving down the road , see a yard sale and they had the exact pit boss you have. And I paid $65 and didn’t even ask him to plug it in. Got home same thing ERL code. Took it all apart, looked for loose wires, cleaned it real good ( auger and pellets) turned it back on and it actually starting running for about 5 minutes then shut down and I got the ERL code again. The auger when it ran didn’t turn at all. Your video was really good and you did a good job explaining how to replace these parts. Thanks, I hope mine turns out as good as yours.

Thanks for that, partner. I have a ‘new-to-me’ used Louisiana Grills 7 vertical smoker, only a year or so old. I have done a few smokes, but tonight it did exactly what your did with same code. Same company makes Pit Boss and Louisiana grills. I did find another video where just simply cleaning the temp probe was enough to stop the error occurring. I hope tomorrow to do that and have it fixed. But, If it doesn’t cure the problem, I’ll replace both controller and the temp probe as you did. Again, thanks for the excellent tutorial.

Great video and again it's good to see a brother on top of his game, most cooks on you tube and people who grill don't understand the science behind cooking Im glad you do stay safe

On the thermostat mine had a channel from one opening to the other so I didn't have to do all that fishing

Another reason this will throw "every" code is the auger gets clogged in these smokers. Essentially when you put the pellets in the smoker you have to sift out the wood dust first using a strainer. If you don't sift the pellets the auger will eventually clog with wood dust and isn't strong enough to turn. You have to basically do what he's doing above, but pull the auger out, clean it, and put it back in.

But my auger still worked and I was wondering did your convection fan go off while the auger was still working and then did you get black smoke in there
