Groege Carlin, in a chapter in one of his books called "words that aren't words but should be", or something like that, he includes "pocketry". I was never sure if this is a better word to describe a garments assortment of pockets, or the contents of pockets, but "Wiggetry" seems like it could be a similar word, alongside "wiggage".
Honestly, the most inspiring part for me was when she said one of her first wigs was made 7 or so years ago. In convention time, thats not long at all to go from complete beginner to crazy expert. Obviously, the number of wigs made in that time window is probably fairly large, but knowing that I could achieve similar results in a reasonable amount of time is quite motivating. I have also been running across other creators of various mediums saying they became really good in 5-8 years time and their year 2 stuff still really holds up. It reminds me that the stuff I want to achieve is totally possible without needing to devote 20 years to it before hitting my stride.
True also its the time you put into it, if u spend every day on it for a year or two you can rise very fast compared to someone who takes every weekend on it, its all about the time you put into it.
@@M_Lopez_3D_Artist Yep. Which is why I made the aside that the number she made in that time was probably fairly large. I cannot get over how good their cosplays look. I don’t cosplay, I don’t feel talented enough. But this makes it seem easier? Thanks Adam! Loved seeing you mind boggled by hair.
Every cosplayer starts somewhere! None of them start off great at it, they get better just by sucking at first and continuing to do it anyway. But of course, I know the feeling of something being intimidating and feeling overwhelming and out of reach. But it really does just help to take the plunge and embrace the fact that you might suck at first and that's fine - because then you're actually _doing_ it, and you'll learn so much about how to get better. Mistakes just mean you learn how to do the correct thing faster. And absolutely no one skips that part of the learning process, even really skilled and experienced cosplayers
Easy place to start is with cardboard. It's cheap, recyclable, and everyone love some cardboard armor. There's tons of RUclips vids and free patterns to follow out there. I made a whole stormtrooper helmet out of cardboard. Nobody starts at their level. Talent is like the last 1% of genius. Hard work, practice, and a bunch of mistakes and you can get to their level.
I am right there with you, I just bought some tools and EVA foam yesterday and am just jumping in to it. I expect a lot of failures, so I will just keep doing until I learn all the lessons I need to learn to have something con worthy. I think being ready to fail and not being worried by it is the first real step. Do, fail, learn, and improve for the next one. Practising and learning at the start is far more important than it being perfect. Good luck and happy cosplaying!
They make a great point that wigs don't have to be solely hair. I made Shiva from FFX and her massive hair falls give cosplayers NO END of trouble, between the amount of hair needed, potential weight issues, etc. I never liked any of the hair fiber versions I saw, so I made them out of tubes of streaky velvet with all the bands just sewn onto the fabric, then lightly stuffed with sparse batting. My biggest, gnarliest wig is ZERO maintenance and will never have a hair out of place. >:3

those ladies are seriously impressive. their work could easily be on display at a high fashion runway event in paris or milan the same as it is at a convention hall. incredibly talented craftswomen
Pattex and other glues is how I helped create some of the more extreme Yu-Gi-Oh wigs for friends. It just holds so much better than just teasing it and you can't get some of the weird angles those hair styles have without some extreme measures.
I remember when people laughed at the hair helicopters or other hair sculpting techniques at African American hair shows or at people who cosplayed. Especially creative Club kids and people in drag. I love how things change over time or come together. =^^= These ladies are freaking amazing!
Easily the best guests you've ever had on the show. These ladies know their stuff and are able to communicate their thoughts perfectly. I'm really impressed with the wigs and might incorporate one into my next cosplay! No more "find a hat to cover the naked pate" for me! At least at cons...
Rose Quartz, even tho she completed it way back in like 2015, is one of her most impressive works to me. Ive had to use her tumblr tutorial for my own wigs. It is super difficult making a heavy wig!
i really appreciate this series, adam is such a cool dude. you can tell by the way a guy talks to women if he actually sees them and respects them or not... he's always been such a stand up guy bringing up topics i never see done.
When they talk about 3d printed foam heads @11:24 that match the shape of an individual, it reminded me of the sewing dress forms (mannequin) that Bernadette Banner talked about that take your measurements and asymmetries and gives you an accurate model of your body type. BB has a curvature in her spine and her dress form is made just like her.
I saw this video at just the right time, I'm trying to make some wigs for a convention right now and am cosplaying some my little pony characters with my mom. I really wanted to do more accurate cartoony wigs that had the right hair shape instead of just curly wigs cause it just seems so much more fun and this helped me a lot. This is also super cool!
Yes, I don’t mean to be critical but she really was overwhelming and I think the conversation would have benefitted from her colleague being given more of an opportunity to share her thoughts. Interesting video nonetheless, as ever.
The Studio Ghibli "No-face" wig is genius, Spirited away was such a captivating animé & putting on that wig would definitely spirit you away to the Cosplay World.
ugh, they're right about wig weight. I had a waist-length wig for a cosplay, plus a top hat with loose fabric draped around and hanging off (guess the cosplay!), and it KILLED my neck after a couple hours.
I feel like someone should mention the legend & icon Miss Alyssa Edwards for bringing WIGGAGE & WIGGOTRY to the general population. Always and forever💜
I love when the subject matter seems so self explanatory but someone experienced in the matter can give such an in-depth look at the complexity of it. I'll most likely never use what I learned in this video for my daily life but im glad I learned it nevertheless
As a professional cosplay- and movie wig maker, I totally agree with them. :D My Junkrat wig, glowing and smoking, didn't move since 2016! :D From real hair sidecuts (Levi from AoT) to huge spikes (Yu-Gi-Oh), it's amazing to have this huge range, being a special make-up artist AND wig maker! I can't wait to make an EXTREME glowing and energy pulsing Super Saiyajin wig with a heavily weathered cosplay, because I love noth: Wigs and weathering! :D Additionnal tips: Be aware how and where you tease the hair. Use a brush, not a comb! I use a small tip for my heatgun which can be lowered down to a fresh breeze. Try it!
huzzah for cosplay and the ideas we have for creating cool stuff. i've seen tons creators friends making careers out of this and i'm always proud of them
How splendid of a showcase! Thanks so much for this, I've got all sorts of weird new inspiration to keep floating around my brain now for if and when it'll come in handy someday
I do hairstyles on my props. I had to learn a lot the hard way. But I really loved the heat trick to lock it in, thanks! I looked for years for bug hairstyle videos for wigs or hair and this just came along and filled in the gaps of my knowledge Thank you,!
OMG, I remember my Rose Quartz wig....dear God. I sewed 3 wigs together and had foam and about 2-3 cans worth of hairspray. She came out amazing but good lord did it weigh!
Love the presentation, and nerding it up. Also how her voice and face softened when the wig came off. The hair net had to come off, to preserve vanity, completely understandable, great video. When someone who has so many interests like Adam gets further into the expert side of the Dunning Kruger, and realizes how noob he still is compared to some of these amazing artists, I just wanna encourage folks to keep going; most of the people in these interest groups are so inviting to people with genuine interest. I'd like to see him talk to some of the compilation videographers who shoot the cosplay at the cons.
Bring these women back! They're amazing. I have an idea for adam: one day build where Adam designs and builds a cosplay for them and they design a cosplay for adam

Not into wigs or making but Adam is an amazing interviewer, and made this interesting.
I’m into wigs and making, not an adam fan (yet), and this is interesting
The Studio Ghibli "No-face" wig is genius, Spirited away was such a captivating animé & putting on that wig would definitely spirit you away to the Cosplay World.
LoL, the genuine excitement for the word Wiggage.
I've wondered each and every question Adam s asking. Thanks Adam.
The minute she said she wished she had a cast of her head I expected Adam to say "OOH OOH! LET'S DO THAT RIGHT NOW!"
Missed opportunity right there. I sense a repeat visit on a future episode of Adams one day builds!
Honestly, This was sooooo helpful! Thank you for bringing wiggage works to us :)
this was great adam. thanks for having these two on as guests. i hope you do more content like this with guests
ugh, they're right about wig weight. I had a waist-length wig for a cosplay, plus a top hat with loose fabric draped around and hanging off (guess the cosplay!), and it KILLED my neck after a couple hours.
Bayonetta?
Want to know lol
My wig was so heavy that the tacky glue on the back of my neck kept scratching when it weighed down. It gave me chaffing
Speedwagon?
It's great seeing the passion and dedication. And whether I never make a wig in my life, it's a little bit of extra knowledge gifted to me.
What a lovely couple of ladies - so much talent 🤩
i love the comic wig style, it looks really amazing and beautiful
Wiggage! That sounds right on many levels.
"Wiggage... off the top of my head."
I see what you did there.
I do not recognize the characters they're dressed as, but I can recognize a quality cosplay when I see it.
I'd guess the "main" girl is a Ivysaur
they talk a bit about what the blue hair cosplay is around 14:25
@@ARockRaider yep they says what most of the wigs are for
Ponyo and Ivysaur/bulbasaur
that ivysaur wig made my day!
It’s so fun to watch genuine people
Probably will never cosplay anywhere close to this degree. Still found this absolutely fascinating.
They are SO pretty
"You might know them as CowButtCrunchies"
INSTANT GOOSEBUMPS
I fucking adore them.
Absolutely stunning work.
From real hair sidecuts (Levi from AoT) to huge spikes (Yu-Gi-Oh), it's amazing to have this huge range, being a special make-up artist AND wig maker!
I can't wait to make an EXTREME glowing and energy pulsing Super Saiyajin wig with a heavily weathered cosplay, because I love noth: Wigs and weathering! :D
Additionnal tips: Be aware how and where you tease the hair. Use a brush, not a comb! I use a small tip for my heatgun which can be lowered down to a fresh breeze.
Try it!
Pattex from the company Henkel is a german brand of contact cement.
Hey Adam/Team, Life long fan love the cosplay design series stuff.
huzzah for cosplay and the ideas we have for creating cool stuff. i've seen tons creators friends making careers out of this and i'm always proud of them
It's silly how happy I am that I have the same steamer as Kelley and Regan.
I’m glad I watched this. It gave me some good insight I can use for future cosplays
Love her beauty and East Coast accent!!
What amazing guests
I really want to see photos of those Ghibli costumes!!
Adam just coined the phrase word "wiggage" cool stuff Adam.
How splendid of a showcase! Thanks so much for this, I've got all sorts of weird new inspiration to keep floating around my brain now for if and when it'll come in handy someday
Just a whole little master class in such a short video
"Very kinky and not straight" describes me as well
Nice
LOL!!! 🏳🌈 🏳🌈 🏳🌈 🏳🌈
I do hairstyles on my props. I had to learn a lot the hard way. But I really loved the heat trick to lock it in, thanks! I looked for years for bug hairstyle videos for wigs or hair and this just came along and filled in the gaps of my knowledge
Thank you,!
So pretty and very underappreciated in my bubble. Thanks for giving the exposure to this topic
realizing "big" meant something different in the drag wig world - all just so great
OMG, I remember my Rose Quartz wig....dear God. I sewed 3 wigs together and had foam and about 2-3 cans worth of hairspray. She came out amazing but good lord did it weigh!
omg that no face wig was INSANE. i want it.
I just learned more here than any where else! I have watched many many videos!
I used that got2b hairspray so much in my teenager days, my nose remembered the smell as I am watching this more than a decade later ahah
In the early 90s I used to do my cosplay wigs by making a felt hat, harvesting wefts from a donor wig, and gluing or sewing them on.
They are so pretty!
I am smitten
Bring these women back! They're amazing. I have an idea for adam: one day build where Adam designs and builds a cosplay for them and they design a cosplay for adam
