Great actor who played many diverse charactors--he should be ranked high on the list of great actors but is wrongly passed over I think because of his political activity later in his life
I like the way Tirzah holds back at the top of the steps, to allow Esther to make her entrance, before joining her before Judah, seemingly offering her a silent support.
Exactly. And later Esther is completely relieved to see Tirzah alive and overjoyed when Tirzah is cured by the miracle. They clearly have a special friendship. I bet Tirzah was hoping and hoping that her brother would marry Esther and bring her into the family. She certainly gets her wish! :)
"I learn to love him". What a beautiful and loaded dialogue in just five words. It speaks volumes of her love for Ben from her young age and conveying him the same in a more subtle way and make him to ruminate about.
Esther is one of the toughest women in cinematic history, and this was long before Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor graced the silver screen. Haya was an incredible actress.
The best thing about the cinematography of this film is that you just pause the video anywhere and make a painting of that frame! Incredible work huge respect 🙏
Just wow……the way he looks at her after she says she’ll learn to love this husband to be. She can’t return the look knowing that she’s speaking now with the man she truly loves. Such a moving scene.
She could not love him at this moment as she’d only just met him for the first time as an adult. Love at first sight is merely lust and not truly love.
Ah, young love and Bible stories. There was a funny scene in Tommy Tune's "My One and Only" play where he's trying to locate his lost love in a mideast harem, and the girls are all wearing veils, so he can't recognize her; , but the harem head sez: "on the other hand, she'd have no difficulty recognizing you.....we don't get too many six foot six white tap dancers in here..."
But in the second half of the film, she is quite opinionated, and they have a big argument. He wants revenge on all of Rome and she rightfully calls him out for talking crazy. When she realizes the mistakes he’s about to make, she says “it’s as though you have become Messala!” right to his face. And ultimately she’s the one who convinces him to avoid that path. None of this ever makes him stop loving or wanting her. Maybe because he respects her as a person and doesn’t mind that she is opinionated and can match him in an argument…just a thought.
The way he looks at her. He’s eyes convey so many emotions. Charlton was a masterful actor.
Yes very true

The score is so good

Judah is his name. Ben Hur is his surname. Means Son of Hur.
i will learn to love him

She was incredible and had such a natural chemistry with Charlton on screen!

What a movie!! The perfect movie!
My all Time favorite movie... Thanks for sharing 👏👏 👌
Judah went from jovial to pensive and bordering on angry in about 5 seconds. Lol
Lol...right? "Tell me more about this man that I absolutely hate and envy."😂

I always wondered a hypothetical age Judah was and Esther was. I'm guessing 30-32 for Judah and 25-29 for Esther. Wild guess lol

@@westyraviz no it wasn’t the first time. Listen to the convo after this. They knew each other as kids.
@@marcusmedlock847 I said this.

Such a beautiful woman.
"If I were not a bride, there would be no goodbyes to be said". If only i had experienced such love.
Nobody remembers the 2016 remake. this Oscar winning 1959 movie is the true Ben Hur
Esther sure was a great beauty!
La forma en la que mira... No sé si suspirar o asombrarme.
Simonides appears to be oblivious to Judah's feeings for Esther...
Well he is an accountant.

Amazing how the two of them are having an entirely different-and deeper-conversation just with their eyes.

This movie is on tcm now and Ten Commandments is on regular tv tomorrow night
The way she speaks, softly, gently, respectfully, that's the type of women men want. Not someone who is loud, opinionated, and argumentative.
Amen. you speak the truth.
The same can be said about a loud opinionated argumentative male. I prefer respectful, kind, quiet, gentle male.

Dropped that truth bomb on her 💯
Is it a Bible story? Which Bible story meets Judah and Esther?
It's fictional. It isn't in the Bible. I should add that there is the book Esther in the Old Testament but it's a different Esther.
What mean anti-auk please?
