Edit: holy shit 3k viewers thanks reddit now that its not 3am and im not shit faced let me explain some things. this isnt as easy as i made it out to be this was my 10th attempt but I can do it almost every time now that i have a better understanding. This can basically knock any ship out of the water except other trade ships they kind of cancel each other out. also i dont know why it says the music is rick ashley but who cares

ArcheAge is a game that needs seasonal wipes in order to be sustainable. The amount of possible grinding to do in the game ranges from absurd to wtf; if you join in more than a month into a server, you'll be cucked unless you start making alt accounts. Gear means far too much in ArcheAge; with a full epic delphinad stone set, legendary ayanad lake shield, and a legendary ayanad medow club, I've managed to solo-wreck a worldboss attempt by a mid tier guild by simply stunlocking them and chucking them off their boat repeatedly and laughing as they failed to kill me through my block chance and healing.
For those not in the know, legendary is not the highest tier, mythic is. "Delphinad" is the fourth tier of gear, and "Ayanad" is the highest tier.
The odds of successfully crafting a single Ayanad item from scratch is in the neighborhood of 1 in 448 - if you ever fail one of the four rolls, you have to start over again from scratch, though there are some tricks around this to bring this number down to 1 in 28 if you have the gold. Tier 3, 4, and 5 (Epherium, Delphinad, and Ayanad) take between 1 and 2 weeks of maxing out your 2880 daily labor points on farming mobs (opening coinpurses) each, and this is capped by your labor points. You can drastically reduce this time by creating alt accounts and giving them all premium membership, parking them in a corner and divvying up the coinpurses between your alts, but this costs a lot of money (my ten accounts put my fee at about 150$/mo.).
Once you've gotten a delphinad item that you know is upgradeable to Ayanad, you have to play the RNG game;
Celestial Grade to Divine grade has a 10% chance of success, 50% chance to revert to arcane grade, 40% chance to explode
Divine grade to Epic grade has a 7.5% chance of success, 92.5% chance to explode
Epic grade to Legendary grade has a 5% chance of success, 95% chance to explode
Legendary to Mythic grade has a ~2% chance of success, 98% chance to explode
By explode, I mean your month of grinding to acquire an upgradeable delphinad just blew up in your face and you have to start over, or be content with an Epic or Legendary. You need at least an epic primary item, and a full set of divine armor in order to even consider going into PvP, and then get all of your honor gems into the items (which is, admittedly, not nearly as bad)
In short, some people get lucky, some people pool their resources together to create one or two monster members in their guild, and then it all goes to shit as the first guild to kill the Red Dragon (which drops a weapon with equivalent stats to an Ayanad, with a dope ass passive) tends to continue killing the Red Dragon every time it spawns without fail, and everybody else... has no decent way to make gold, unless twenty people go full communist for two months with near daily, full efficiency, no-fun-allowed grinding..
People with full epic can absolutely crush people with full divine; again, with full epic armor and legendary shield/club, I've 2v30'd and sabotaged a Kraken attempt with the help of my pockethealer.
So, yeah, this is why ArcheAge is a terrible game; because the only way to catch up is to use playerauctions or sell APEX. The cash shop was never an issue; it's the amount of possible grinding which creates a massive gap between the one-shotters and the one-shotted.
