It's impossible to imagine the mind frame of someone who's experience of themselves is so excruciatingly painful for them, that they just have to die. An ex-addict friend of mine with some lingering mental health issues was having a tough time, a woman had politely rejected his romantic intentions at work, and some other life stuff going on, he told some of us friends of his he was struggling, but no mention of any suicide ideation - even when outright asked, he'd smile and say 'no, it's not that bad' - he was part of a small community of people who loved him. Then he was found dead in his apartment one day - he'd gone and got some smack (after not using any mood or mind altering substances for over 3 years) and injected a lethal dose. He'd clearly spent some time making sure his flat was immaculate, washed the dishes and had hung laundry out to dry, written a note to his mum saying goodbye and to forgive him, and then tied off - gone.
I imagine that Krist was the person in Kurt’s life that would NOT put up with his drug addiction and truly loved him as a person, brother, and friend. Yes it is the most tragic ending, sad, but he tried. In some sense he was successful because Kurt went to rehab. But then maybe he gave in. I wish someone could have locked him up in a house for a month. I also wish he had a good woman in his life. He would still be here today.
Unfortunately that’s not how it works. Locking someone up for a month won’t change a thing. Neither will beating your friend up at the airport. In order to deal with addiction, a person needs to be able to heal in whatever time frame it takes, with compassion and support. I totally understand that it can be the mist frustrating thing for family and friends. But ganging up on Kurt and trying to force him to do it on their terms was a poor choice.

the fact that krist drove him straight to the airport shows that he cares a lot about kurt, since if he brought him to the restaurant he would just be on drugs again
It he walks out the front door, he has to confront the staff who are not just going to say, “goodbye Kurt, hope you enjoyed your stay!” Plus they are going to notify his people. Easier to just jump the wall and be done with it. Probably bought him a good half hour before anyone noticed
Poor Krist. i can’t imagine what its like seeing your closest friend spiral and lose themself to drugs, the last interaction you have with them is a physical fight.
i could feel the way he was thinking. i’ve been homeless and staying at friends and over a love that didn’t go well i was over doing snow and xanax and my emotions were everywhere i tried to kill myself a few times and i remember vividly wanting to go thru with it if i was alone i didn’t have parents in the local city nor did they know who i was. i was alone and had music and skateboarding i use to sit under a bridge as well and watch the truckee river go as it brings its coldness i had no friends but those who skated. i would sit there crying hungry asf always bothering friends for even just a shower. it makes me sad kurt is gone i really really wish i coulda met him. if ya care i’m okay now i worked outta that situation and am not doing any hard drugs anymore it’s been almost a whole year ago. and i started making music to help cope with not wanting to go back to drugs and it’s going good. yea that love that fucked me up, she was also the one supplying the drugs and blinding me with lust.
Either the drug abuse is catching up, old age, or the CTE, but I don't remember ever hearing about this fight between Krist & Kurt. This is some heavy shit, man.
@@thehistorybuff8265 I know that’s what happened to me put me down for the rest of the day or at least those last two chapters and hearing about the fight between him and krist was probably the saddest or at least close
This is one of the saddest stories. I feel so bad that was the last time they saw each other, and if Kurt only knew that those were going to be his last words he would've felt so bad.
Ok ..rome was a accident Everyone said that bandmates, doctor, even Courtney I remember it plain as day them saying that and now since he is dead it's a suicide..ok something smells fishy.
Also, at 1:53, Kurt is wearing gloves. Layne Staley also wore gloves when he was super deep in his addiction and trying to hide the evidence. Its so sad 😞
If ypuve ever loved anyone (in any sense of love capacity) who is an addict, there comes a point where you realize that youncant force them to be better or do better unless they want to.
Krist was an absolute beast of a man so I don't think he couldn't have beaten Kurt in a fight if he wanted too. He clearly loved his friend too much and didn't want to hurt him.
Confronting an addict in this way is an extremely poor choice of action. People didn’t know any better back then. People end up on heroin because of extreme trauma. The last thing you do is corner them and force them into an even more vulnerable position. A person can only get through something as brutal as that with compassion and support. Threats, physical violence and everyone in your life saying ‘you have to go to rehab now’ will almost never work. It will just make the person feel more isolated.
I thought Kurt asked krist to take him to jack in the box because they weren't as greasey as the one they were at and krist got mad after he found out Kurt was just trying to get drugs and be closer to his dealers.
From what I have read and watched in videos.. Kurt supposedly did not have damage to his face. It was bird shot and internal injuries. Unless you go by what Courtney Love says and she is the only one that has said differently. She said there was a puddle of blood but others there say that there was no blood. Except from his ear. The electrician who found him said he saw blood that had trickled from his ear. Someone else said he was a beautiful corpse. Unless we were there we only have what bits of information is put out there. Seems Kurt should of been in pajamas instead of a suit.
Whats even worse was the reporter asking Krist, Where would nirvana be today if Kurt wouldn't have died,,, FFS, He just poured his heart out, I would have said sorry, Then asked a far diffrent question, Like what have you been doing after that tragic day, Or what is your fondest memory of the band, Something that still makes you laugh,,, Switch the attitude to something lighter,
Krist was just being a good friend to Kurt. Dave even told him not to do any harm on himself over the phone. Courtney tried to revive him numerous times b4. She said in 1of her interviews. Poking needles onto his private parts. Cuz he was in an oblivion state of mindset. Since when did Love knew how to revive him tho as a nurse as a doctor as a caregiver as a caretaker as a wife as a his own baby sitter.
The record company should of had handlers with him after Rome especially!!! So many people let him down but none more than Courtney !! Tricking him, playing games, making him feel bad when he dropped Francis etc (yes I know that’s not cool at all) He needed help so bad, Courtney knew he wanted a divorce and I’m not convinced she tried push him to do it or had it done!!
He didn't try to "kill himself" in Rome. When we were younger than him, we would take tons of Rohypnol to have wonderful experiences. I'm calling BS!!!
Krist was known in Aberdeen to be a brawler, but Kurt was scrappy. Depends on what you're fighting for...He has never had the same light in his eyes since Kurt died... P.S. It was a Jack in the Box, not McDonald's, not important.

kurt jumped the fence at exodus when he could of just walked out the door his mind wasn't his own anymore at that point
That could be it. I'd always assumed Kurt was just being funny.
It he walks out the front door, he has to confront the staff who are not just going to say, “goodbye Kurt, hope you enjoyed your stay!” Plus they are going to notify his people. Easier to just jump the wall and be done with it. Probably bought him a good half hour before anyone noticed
@@justin1978 stuff like that causes a lot of trouble for the techs tho...
@@justin1978 he walked into rehab voluntarily…he wasn’t on any kind of medical hold so he could have literally left at any time without a problem.
Where did you get this info? This is the first time ive heard this story.
I can't begin the imagine the pain Krist must've felt knowing that that was the last interaction he had with Kurt 💔
Poor Krist. i can’t imagine what its like seeing your closest friend spiral and lose themself to drugs, the last interaction you have with them is a physical fight.
Brothers fight..:(..
i could feel the way he was thinking. i’ve been homeless and staying at friends and over a love that didn’t go well i was over doing snow and xanax and my emotions were everywhere i tried to kill myself a few times and i remember vividly wanting to go thru with it if i was alone i didn’t have parents in the local city nor did they know who i was. i was alone and had music and skateboarding i use to sit under a bridge as well and watch the truckee river go as it brings its coldness i had no friends but those who skated. i would sit there crying hungry asf always bothering friends for even just a shower. it makes me sad kurt is gone i really really wish i coulda met him. if ya care i’m okay now i worked outta that situation and am not doing any hard drugs anymore it’s been almost a whole year ago. and i started making music to help cope with not wanting to go back to drugs and it’s going good. yea that love that fucked me up, she was also the one supplying the drugs and blinding me with lust.
God this hurts my heart...
Either the drug abuse is catching up, old age, or the CTE, but I don't remember ever hearing about this fight between Krist & Kurt. This is some heavy shit, man.
I just read this in the heavier than heaven book that I just finished yesterday
finished that a few months ago if you ever need to cry read that last chapter shits so sad
@@thehistorybuff8265 I know that’s what happened to me put me down for the rest of the day or at least those last two chapters and hearing about the fight between him and krist was probably the saddest or at least close
That book has Courtney's fingerprints all over it. Its tainted so take it all with a huge grain of salt
@@lizparsons7301 I do don’t worry most of the ending is questionable
Heavier than Heaven is Courtney propaganda.
Duff from G and R was on that plane when he broke out of the rehab
This is one of the saddest stories. I feel so bad that was the last time they saw each other, and if Kurt only knew that those were going to be his last words he would've felt so bad.
Jeez, I thought that was Arnie Grapes on the front pic.
this almost made me cry
This literally did make me cry. Krist cared about him so much even all these years later
They loved each other that much
It wasn't mcdonalds it was jack in the box and the one he wanted to go to was the one in the capitol hill district by his dealers Caitlin Moore
I hear ya Krist,Its tough when ya More than Care for your friends.Take care,Look for the best nah!Within,Krist.Jcsx
Heartbreaking 💔
Ok ..rome was a accident Everyone said that bandmates, doctor, even Courtney I remember it plain as day them saying that and now since he is dead it's a suicide..ok something smells fishy.
What's the source of this story? Is this something Krist reportedly told someone?
Also, at 1:53, Kurt is wearing gloves. Layne Staley also wore gloves when he was super deep in his addiction and trying to hide the evidence. Its so sad 😞
That picture is Maybe from 1990 though
Not the same reason
Never heard this before krist must of been highly upset over this
If ypuve ever loved anyone (in any sense of love capacity) who is an addict, there comes a point where you realize that youncant force them to be better or do better unless they want to.
correct, this is because currently there is no known medical cure for any type of addiction.
Do you guys also see that in that one black and white pic kurt looks like dead without corpse paint from mayhem
Watch the interview of the doctor in Rome who treated him.
I never knew this. Holy S*t.
Oh my gosh...I never knew all that. 😔
Why would you? You’re a nobody.
This was in the book Heavier than Heaven, the most famous book about Kurt Cobain. How is this new news? 🤷🏻
Krist was an absolute beast of a man so I don't think he couldn't have beaten Kurt in a fight if he wanted too. He clearly loved his friend too much and didn't want to hurt him.
Source?
Confronting an addict in this way is an extremely poor choice of action.
People didn’t know any better back then.
People end up on heroin because of extreme trauma. The last thing you do is corner them and force them into an even more vulnerable position.
A person can only get through something as brutal as that with compassion and support.
Threats, physical violence and everyone in your life saying ‘you have to go to rehab now’ will almost never work. It will just make the person feel more isolated.
right. very sad, being in that state of mind already im sure it was hard for him..
I thought Kurt asked krist to take him to jack in the box because they weren't as greasey as the one they were at and krist got mad after he found out Kurt was just trying to get drugs and be closer to his dealers.
** You can't control people !!! Especially when they're sick !!!
I never knew it was an open casket, that’s a little messed up to think about considering his cause of death
Yeah and if his EYES were sewn shut then clearly it was not a "gun in the mouth" suicide...
HOW MESSED UP IS THAT..?
Yeah I was thinking the same thing,I thought it was odd that no one noticed him say that, except us
From what I have read and watched in videos..
@@tonicollins8917 I don't understand, how could you kill yourself with bird shot and not a slug?
Addictions aren't easy to overcome. And if Kurt would ve the change to apologize He would ve done it.
Whats even worse was the reporter asking Krist, Where would nirvana be today if Kurt wouldn't have died,,,
FFS, He just poured his heart out, I would have said sorry, Then asked a far diffrent question, Like what have you been
doing after that tragic day, Or what is your fondest memory of the band, Something that still makes you laugh,,,
Switch the attitude to something lighter,
Poor krist what a good soul
Krist was just being a good friend to Kurt. Dave even told him not to do any harm on himself over the phone. Courtney tried to revive him numerous times b4. She said in 1of her interviews. Poking needles onto his private parts. Cuz he was in an oblivion state of mindset. Since when did Love knew how to revive him tho as a nurse as a doctor as a caregiver as a caretaker as a wife as a his own baby sitter.
This is very sad. Just imagine you’re at the airport and you see famous grudge stars Krist Novoselic and Kurt Cobain having a fist fight at an airport
@@terg8472 yeah grunge
The record company should of had handlers with him after Rome especially!!!
So many people let him down but none more than Courtney !!
Tricking him, playing games, making him feel bad when he dropped Francis etc (yes I know that’s not cool at all)
He needed help so bad, Courtney knew he wanted a divorce and I’m not convinced she tried push him to do it or had it done!!
I mean it's rough that it was his final interaction with him, but he was doing what a real friend should do in those circumstances. Peace.
I hate the matter-of-fact "next question" aspect of the interviewer at the end. Bro, leave the guy alone
i wonder sometimes if novoselic and grohl had something along with love to do with it like they all three benefited from it if u think about it idk im naturally skeptical tho and dont trust ppl but its always been in back of head idk
God I felt so bad for Kris if Kurt gotten help Nirvana would’ve been here today
They were gonna break up
nah nirvana was over even if kurt survived.
How is any of this confirmed tho?
Krist Anthony NOVOSELIC

58 años.
You know what's in airports? Cops. Security. Cameras. People. Strange to think the scene described here happened _at all,_ that it was allowed to happen and that no one heard about this until almost 30 years later? Sus.
What would Dave and Pat do if They were there?
Kurt sounds like a real good guy !
You can’t force anyone to get sober. Now matter how you or they want it.
informative video, love it - but i just gotta say: krist’s last name is pronounced “no-vuh-sell-ick”
Erm, afraid not. He’s of Croatian descent and Europeans pronounce it as Nov-o-sell-itch
Wrongggg
Kurt is such a tragic figure, we all wish it could have gone better, no one more than his band mates
Where were they gonna go? Was he taking Kurt to rehab?
Shoutout to Krist for powering through even after losing his best friend. R I P Kurt
kinda wish i didnt watch this video, too tragic. poor guys
