Someone actually found a complete set of Beagles animatronics, and donated it to an automobile museum in Volo, Illinois. The great thing is that they programmed completely new showtapes for them that build off the original ones, and are actually better. If you make a part 2 covering the 90's era and early 2000's I would love to see it, and hope you tell your viewers what I said here, that way fans know that the animatronics get chopped in half and axed in the face before being tossed in the dumpsters, and it is up to us to save them from going to rot in landfills (provided each person checks to make sure dumpster diving is legal in their state).

In fact, there's three Chucks- OG, post-company-marge 80s-90s version, and the post-Avenger modern version. The differences are so stark that it makes sense to me. OG was a rat who found this mouse with nothing more to him than his first name digging through the garbage. Charles hung off OG Chuck like nobody's business, and the old ass grew a soft spot for this poor kid. He took Charles under his wing, showed him the ropes, even let him write some scripts for the band, though the tone was way less crass than they were used to. Everyone liked the kid, and Chuck was getting on in his years, so he retired and gave everything to the new Chuck, even his name. Chuck loved his job, but realized that after so many years, he wasn't hip enough for the kids anymore. So, he tries to reinvent himself as Avenger Chuck. That never fully worked out, though. He was just too old to be hip. So, Chuck followed in the path of his old mentor- he found someone new. A much smaller mouse, yeah, but he was hip and cool and bouncing off the walls with energy. He was the perfect replacement. He's taken over now, and 90s Chuck has gone off to join the OG Chuck on some sunny beach far away.

Me too! My dad built, repaired and recorded tapes for animated amusements like this. And I can tell you, this was his life through the early to mid 80’s all day until 3am. His shooting gallery amusements business went bust along with the rest so after that he only maintained the animatronics on call. He has Alzheimer’s now. All his electronics and schematics were burned in a wildfire. The people whose passion and knowledge went into this art form are a dying generation, and it truly saddens me that more people aren’t fascinated with robotics for entertainment and amusements, since it would be so refreshing in this age of having screens everywhere. My 7 year old for one is obsessed with animatronic videos and wishes she could go to the 80’s to see them! She was disappointed when we went to Chuck E Cheese and they had nothing but screens. Never did I think I would sit down to watch a third entirely independently made documentary about Chuck E. Cheese, but here I am and I have no complaints about it.
I think a lot of these animatronics were trying to replicate the Country Bear Jamboree at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom. The side comments between numbers and the hick voices of many characters seem very reminiscent of that show. Back in the day, many companies would just straight up try and copy ideas they saw at Disney, but bringing the concept to a more local and regional audience, many of whom had never been, at the time. Though a nearly-forgotten gem at MK (Disneyland's being long replaced), the show was immensely popular when MK opened in 1971, where for years the show consistently had 60-90 minute waits. Before rollercoasters were common, animatronics were all the rage and fascinated people who had never seen robots moving around.
This is fascinating. 2000s kid just learning about old carnival worker rat. Kinda wish they kept him a rat and not a mouse. Makes him so distinct. Lil headcannon time cuz I noticed this. They started to phase out his cigar smoking right as Chucky got a new voice actor. Charles realized he was getting a smoker's voice, maybe even a cough, and decided to quit so his singing would sound better. Probably realizing people and especially kids enjoyed when the performers sang clearly. He's a rough rat but he cares about his business and why he started it. For kids and families
The Chuck E./Pasqually interaction actually got me laughing :) I adore these little sketches, they add so much to the audio tapes and give a real sense of movement to these characters. I love Chuck's cynical showbiz nature here, very funny
The little pencil drawn animatics of the show tapes makes me want to see all the old show tapes animated in a classic 2D style. It would look much nicer and portray more emotion than the animatronics could lol
The "wink" actually used the spider mechanism (that little spider in rockafire explosion), it was going up and down from the roof to the beat, and its mechanism was used for the wink, as the mechanism was fully controlled by the computer and so could be programmed to work only when the show ends
57:07 PERFECT COMPARISON of 70s versus 80s shows. I never heard any of the original show tapes until this video, but they surprised me with how sassy they were. Also, maybe it's because I didn't grow up with the Rockafire Explosion in my area as a kid, but I will always find Billy Bob unnerving. Any other animatronic, I'm fine, some are even cute, but there's just something about Billy Bob's face that terrifies me.
I know Jasper’s laughing fits might be annoying to some folks, but that’s what I loved about him. Jasper’s my favorite out of the Pizza Time Players, no matter how silly he may be.
Little did everyone know, was that Crusty broke the species player by being the first cat in history to play baseball with humans. It was viewed at the time with immense controversy, but now Crusty stands on the same league as Jackie Robison.
I was only at a Chuck E. Cheese once back in 3rd grade back around 2000 at a friend's birthday party. I remember the animatronics performed "Chuck E. Cheese Says" after the performance me and some of my friends peeked behind the curtain to see that the Chuck animatronic was gone and a walk around chuck came from backstage and I thought they were one and the same.
I love this video. I actually like to watch a cartoon where all of the characters that have ever been in the restaurant is there. I think Chuck E Cheese being a smart aleck and always roasting his friends is quite interesting someone who seems rough around the edges have a heart of gold underneath I think the new backstory would fit so much for old Chuck E Cheese.
You know this video made me realize something about Colins art It's not the best, (Sorry Colin) but it's really great at getting across expressions. Nice to see them here, really brought a bit of life to the audio scenes
You know, I've always been fascinated by Nolan Bushnell, the founder of Atari and Chuck E. Cheese, it takes a unique mind to come up with the ideas he did, especially where Chuck E. Cheese is concerned. Sure, he wasn't always successful, but he's definitely an incredibly influential individual. I wonder what he's been up to as of late...
We didn't have a Chuck E Cheese in my town, but my grandparents had one in their town. But they hated it so much that they said it burned down and had to be careful driving us around in case we saw it. I wish there had been one around, they looked fun
I didn't know they no longer had animatronics, it's a shame. To me the technology is the coolest part. I didn't know Chuck E Cheese was a thing until FNAF came out, but since then I've been fascinated. Your aversion to the new design isn't entirely nostalgia I think, because I agree. The new one is waay too clean corporate and pandering. I like the tux version too.
I never really went to Chuck E. Cheese as a kid, so I'm surprised by how this video made me fall in love with these characters in such little time, keep it up Collin!
Wonderful video Colin! While Avenger era Chuck E was my childhood, hence I still have a soft spot for him, I think that 70s/80s era Chuck E is my personal favorite, because of how snarky he is! Chuck had so much personality back then, and I even love his carnival barker-like outfit too. I also ADORE Crusty, The King, and The Beagles, and I wish they were kept. My mom tells me stories about how amazing CEC was in the 80s, and as much as I love Avenger, I really wish I could've experienced the PTT era. As for Rockstar, I DESPISE everything about the Rockstar/Modern CEC era. The blander looking buildings? Check. Rockstar Chuck's design? Check, plus he looks like a knock off of Mickey. CEC Entertainment sponsoring Autism Speaks, a horrible organization that actually harms instead of helps? QUADRUPLE CHECK! I also personally think destroying the animatronics is disrespectful towards everyone who designed and worked on them. As for Rockstar-era showtapes, I find them bland. I know I am not the target audience for them, but there is a reason The Muppets, Sesame Street, and 2000s/2010s PBS shows are still beloved today. And don't get me started on the Halloween At The Pizza Time Theatre short, a mean-spirited jab at King, Dolly, and Madame Oink. I don't hate EVERY single thing of Rockstar era though, I actually like Bella and Ronnie, but I wish they had more personality. Back to PTT, I personally prefer Folk Singer Helen over Broadway Helen, but that's just my opinion. As someone on the spectrum, I have always gravitated towards vintage mascots, as they have a timeless charm [most of the time] that can't be found with modern commercials. Hey Colin, will you talk about Domino's Pizza mascots [The Noid, Donny & Dottie Domino, Bad Andy], The California Raisins [so much interesting history], and the pre 2000s Burger King characters one day?
I grew up with avenger Chuck who was a squeaky clean skater guy but my god do I absolutely ADORE the idea if Chuck being just a pure unfiltered asshole on main. I have a soft spot for asshole characters and how they interact with those around them.
It blows my mind how some people never knew that Chuck E Cheese exists until FNAF considering its been around since 1977. I'm a 90s kid, and grew up going to Chuck E Cheese. Even had a birthday party there, but hopefully one day I'll be able to visit the hybrid store here in Cali. It looks so cool
@Squeakandinkpink Yeah! It's in Northridge, California, and it's keeping the animatronics/two stage while having the dance floor. I haven't been in person yet, but from the pictures and videos I've seen, it looks pretty cool
I bet Chuck had problems with Harmony because Chuck somehow knew (most likely Nolans inside joke) that he was supposed to be a Coyote way before they all started and now they had a coyote and hes pissed it wasnt him and pissed he wasnt so well liked like Jasper and the Gang like her. Theres your headcannon for the animatronics 😂😂😂
I think your final thoughts on CEC today were very interesting! It's definitely true that before this video I was an avid hater of the newest era of the franchise, but hearing your thoughts paired together with the clips of the puppets definitely helped to change my mind at least a little bit on them
My dad built amusement park shooting galleries and ran a recording studio for sound effects in my childhood home. After he went bankrupt in the 80’s, he started a repair business, often getting calls to fix the animatronics in Southern California Chuck E. Cheese’s. Some restaurants still had the picture frame characters, including the confederate flags and the clapping hooves etc. Unfortunately I only have a couple memories of the animatronics actually performing, since the only times I went to Chuck E Cheese was during my dad’s repair runs. I liked The King and the moving stools in the cabaret the best of what I remember. I was not a fan of Munch. I don’t think anyone was. I wish Crusty was kept around! Learning how the animatronics worked early in life was fascinating. It saddens me that kids can’t have the live show experience anymore, since the very idea of the restaurant was to provide an entertainment experience that was far more special than having dinner in front of a screen. TVs were as ubiquitous in the 80’s as they are now, and additionally kids have screens literally everywhere they go. If there was ever an era to not replace live shows with more screens, this would be it.
I grew up watching TPM Vids (mainly about Disney and Chuck E Cheese) and the interests I have are huge. I dunno why, I never really grew up with Chuck E Cheese only going once when I was really little, but learning about the history is so comforting and interesting. I have loved FNaF, ever since it came out, however just learning about these real-life "historical" attractions is just amusing.
thank you for uploading this one it was so much fun to watch ^u^ I was a cashier and a walk around chuck for 2/3 years just before the pandemic hit. I never grew up with chuck e cheese but I quickly fell in love with the characters and silly stories, at my location we still had a animatronic chuck but he was kind of just that hunk of metal in the corner but I got to watch them do his diagnostics in the morning which is super creepy when no music is playing. On slightly sadder news about possibly preserving the animatronics its pretty unlikely, at least in accordance to my old stores rules from the higher ups. All robotics/games that were decommissioned for the restaurant were ordered to be destroyed to the point of no return even if there was no issues with them I guess this was to make them have no value for people who could find them in the trash? idk it was kind of a crap policy but what can you do. Either way really loved this one!
Honestly actually hearing the original Chuck’s stuff makes me enjoy his personality back then and honestly I could see these characters Also working in animated form too if they ever had fully gone through with that animated series idea back in the day.
I have very fond memories of going to Chuck E. Cheese in the 80s and early 90s (I think the location near me closed in the late 90s, or before it went through its big cosmetic change anyway). I was fascinated by the portraits and the animatronics, even if I also found them a little creepy and uncanny.
Thanks for uploading this not only is it a really interesting video idea but it’s also something I am quite passionate about not to mention it helps to get my mind off a test. I have coming up next week.
So, I may as well throw one of my memories about the brand in here, since we're already sorta doing that at the end. But I really remember when I found out about the characters' earlier looks. My half sister, who for the record I was the baby of the family by about ten years, usually took me to a location that had the retrofitted Rock-afire iteration, but at some point she drove me to one that I'd never been to. And I remember vividly that it still had the original Pizza Time Theater signage. There was a mural on the side of the building with the older Chuck with various directional signs, straight out of an old cartoon, down to one pointing at the sky to say how far away the moon was. Then we went in and it felt very different comparatively, not to mention the fact that Chuck and the gang looked far different and much, much bulkier, let alone it being a much smaller stage. That's when, I think, I got interested in the characters. I mean, as a six year old I was already reading massive books about Chuck Jones and the Looney Tunes. It just turned into a need to find out more about these characters.
ngl while i grew up during the avenger era, the tux era definitely felt like they were still being true to themselves in a way (it's definitely in the outfit)
You know it seems like the beginning of so many franchises there used to be an edge they had back in the day that cold also entertain adults, but as they grow bigger and bigger they try to make themselves more family friendly. It can be seen in places like Mickey Mouse or Muppets.
49:32 hang on now they could be twin brothers, one who likes to dress up like Elvis and one who likes to dress up like Michael Jackson. interestingly, MJ married Elvis's daughter.
The drawing of Munch and Chuck doing the Itchy and Scratchy lemonade bit when you’re talking about the late 80s is so real. I’ve never cared for any of the material after the merger because they just completely watered down the characters. Like what you said at the beginning, the early shows are enjoyable because they’re more “for everyone” but listening to the later stuff just gives me second hand embarrassment. Nice vid
I really wish there was a movie or series that took all of these obscure/lost characters, and gave them a 2nd chance at fame. this time in a diner for adults instead of children, Because don't adults deserve a place to hang out? Edit: OK new idea, Wolfman zapp hires all the rejects to work at his grill and bar, or maybe his business fails and then he meets krusty? They could then convince the others to join them and open a new restaurant for adults called attacat diner.
You might enjoy that, last I checked in May 2023, the Goodletsville,TN location still has its animatronics, including Pizza-Cam. They also all seemed in pretty good condition, even though Pizza-Cam may have been shut off
Did you know Mr. Munch killed Crusty? In the "working show" its revealed that Mr. Munch, while waiting for his food at the ptt, grew so hungry he ate someone alive. After that he sings about he has been working under Big C ever since. How likely is it that poor victim was Crusty? In fact, the only two guests characters that had a second round were the ones during Crusty's time. Does Mr. Munch eat the retured characters?
Tbh, if FNaF didn't exist, I could difenetly see the tv sceen thing working. But thanks to FNaF, I honestly think that could make things worse due to it bringing a different level of animatronic popularity in the public. Like yah, as a little kid they creeped me out, but now, thanks to FNaF, I have a huge respect towards Animatronic characters or animatronics in general. They do really bring a unique charm that tv screens can't quite capture. Like they are trying to evolve with the time yet completely ignoring what younger generations are into, that being horror, especially mascot horror. It suck because there are moments you can tell the company is trying to dip it's toes into the FNaF pool, but are too scared to actually go through it. I dunno, I feel like them completely getting rid of the animatronics would be a bad move due to how popular animatronics, specifically animatronic characters, are right now. Like to an extent where they are arguably more popular with the public/ pop culture than ever before.

Yeah, I didn't grow up with Rockafire and Billy Bob has always terrfied me. It's so life-like, yet without a soul of any kind. Just fully uncanny 😖
Is it me but it sound kinda of unnerving when they talk sweet to each other like the hav been posses by some spirit
Ah yes the Hug reference
You and my daughter lol. Rolfe DeWolfe, however… class act.
the rockafire animatronics are disgusting, all of their faces are ugly and gross looking, i do not see the appeal at all
This was a nice retrospective of the early days of Chuck E. Cheese’s. I really liked your hand drawn sketches of the characters. Very expressive.
I know Jasper’s laughing fits might be annoying to some folks, but that’s what I loved about him. Jasper’s my favorite out of the Pizza Time Players, no matter how silly he may be.
I wanna give Crusty a hug, poor guy
Little did everyone know, was that Crusty broke the species player by being the first cat in history to play baseball with humans. It was viewed at the time with immense controversy, but now Crusty stands on the same league as Jackie Robison.
42:53 and 46:08 - 46:12 Just letting you know that Nancy Lenehan actually voiced Helen from 1983-1991. Paula only voiced her from 1977-79.
Can we take a moment to appreciate all the little comics Collin makes for the recordings he finds? They’re an added bit of charm to the content :)
17:46 Oh Jeez... Mr. Munch Ate Crusty!!! Even when he's gone Crusty gets the short end of the stick!
You know this video made me realize something about Colins art
It's not the best, (Sorry Colin) but it's really great at getting across expressions.
He did an interview on a podcast awhile ago! I listened to it, and it's really interesting to hear his background, and how he started everything
@@princesskristan Where can I find it?
11:41 I was actually very shocked about Pasqually’s voice in those early show tapes like I didn’t even expect it.
I miss the animatronics.
I'm just glad my local arcade Jungle Fun still has an animatronic band
I never really went to Chuck E. Cheese as a kid, so I'm surprised by how this video made me fall in love with these characters in such little time, keep it up Collin!
RIP Crusty, he was pretty tame looking compared to the others at the time
I’d love a part 2 covering the rest of Chuck E Cheese’s history, this is one of my favorite videos on RUclips :)
me personally I would bring back crusty the cat. And maybe some of the other original characters
Thank you for talking about the lost characters and the two recently found bands. I was really hoping you would talk about them.
56:55: The Itchy & Scratchy "Porch Pals" reference there was very nice and very appropriate, given the overly saccharine dialogue.
Always a good time for another retrospective on the the pizza rat baby casino
The doodles add so much to this video! Their so simple yet expressive.
We don't have any animatronic restaurants here in England so it's very interesting to see the older animatronics and how they work.
Hybrid store? Tmm please.
@Squeakandinkpink Yeah! It's in Northridge, California, and it's keeping the animatronics/two stage while having the dance floor. I haven't been in person yet, but from the pictures and videos I've seen, it looks pretty cool
I can’t believe this guy made an hour long video about
A powerful rat, named Charles Entertainment Cheese!
@@Flyboy1953 It was a Defunctland joke.
6:09
another voice line of chuck e cheese was "i tell yah its tough to make a livin' plugged up to the same computah with this dog"
Not gonna lie.
I love your drawings for the audios.
Very creative.
If you ever do a showbiz history or knock offs.I hope you can draw for them.
I feel like OG Chuck and avenger Chuck are like father and son in a way. Related, but different people.
Always love these retrospectives
Both entertaining
And there's always something to learn
Keep up the good work
Chuck e cheese grew backwards, first he appears as an adult since he smokes then he skateboards which means he a teenager and now he's a kid
Lol
I bet Chuck had problems with Harmony because Chuck somehow knew (most likely Nolans inside joke) that he was supposed to be a Coyote way before they all started and now they had a coyote and hes pissed it wasnt him and pissed he wasnt so well liked like Jasper and the Gang like her. Theres your headcannon for the animatronics 😂😂😂
I love your little drawings you put in during the show tape recordings
6:05 “better half”had me dead💀
I think your final thoughts on CEC today were very interesting! It's definitely true that before this video I was an avid hater of the newest era of the franchise, but hearing your thoughts paired together with the clips of the puppets definitely helped to change my mind at least a little bit on them
Love your carebear pic my childhood
I like how you would do some simple sketches to compliment the vintage audio clips.
1:00:04 Good news Colin, footage of the property stage for Chuck E Cheese pre-concept unification has finally resurfaced a few days ago!
Can you show me it?
I grew up watching TPM Vids (mainly about Disney and Chuck E Cheese) and the interests I have are huge. I dunno why, I never really grew up with Chuck E Cheese only going once when I was really little, but learning about the history is so comforting and interesting. I have loved FNaF, ever since it came out, however just learning about these real-life "historical" attractions is just amusing.
You're right the tuxedo is way more classy than the skater get up
thank you for uploading this one it was so much fun to watch ^u^ I was a cashier and a walk around chuck for 2/3 years just before the pandemic hit.
I have coming up next week.
your videos are the most relaxing of all time to listen to!
Do you remember when they would show the Silly songs with Larry segments from VeggieTales at Chuck e cheese?
It just turned into a need to find out more about these characters.
ngl while i grew up during the avenger era, the tux era definitely felt like they were still being true to themselves in a way
(it's definitely in the outfit)
This is so much better than my project. You knocked it out of the park dude.
80s Helen Henry was a Goddess her voice actress was a genuinely amazing singer seriously look up her singing dream chaser it’s genuinely moving.
The Tune Machine being depicted as the stereo from Brave Little Toaster had me rolling 😂
I had no idea the recent iterations were puppets! That's super cute, and they look like fun lil guys!
You know it seems like the beginning of so many franchises there used to be an edge they had back in the day that cold also entertain adults, but as they grow bigger and bigger they try to make themselves more family friendly. It can be seen in places like Mickey Mouse or Muppets.
Glad to see the Patreon back up and running! Great work, as always!
U r by far the most informative channel to cover chuck e cheese most of the time the obscure characters wud jus he mentioned no voicelines or anything
Chuck E Cheese’s Pizza Time Theatre is my favorite era of Chuck E Cheese’s
The Animatronics were My Favorite Part of Chuck E. Cheese. It's a Shame that they're gone
I actually love the new puppets. I think they’re really cute
They also all seemed in pretty good condition, even though Pizza-Cam may have been shut off
Honestly, I just wish the animatronics and crusty would come back
I want Miss Piggy
Mom: We have Miss Piggy at home
Miss Piggy at home: * Madame Oink *
Did you know Mr. Munch killed Crusty? In the "working show" its revealed that Mr. Munch, while waiting for his food at the ptt, grew so hungry he ate someone alive. After that he sings about he has been working under Big C ever since.
How likely is it that poor victim was Crusty? In fact, the only two guests characters that had a second round were the ones during Crusty's time. Does Mr. Munch eat the retured characters?
This video was released on my birthday
58:57 now I gotta know. What was Rock Afire Explosion Spiderman's Canon Event?
He couldn't save his Uncle Klunk.
I was literally thinking only a few minutes ago that I wish you had a new video up.
That perfect timing doesn’t happen much but when it does 👌
What an EPIC video!!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a part 2!!!!! This video is one of my absolute favorite on youtube
My parents actually went to Showbiz Pizza back in the day with one of my siblings, but they liked Chuck E. Cheese a lot better.
Good details, some characters I never heard of before, cheers! ❤
16:27 This is a funny in-joke. The original theme song was written by Ed Bogas, who was also the voice of Crusty.
I was a walk around costumed chuck e cheese in Henrietta ny from 2003 to 2008. We had a robot chuck and the rest were screens.
If you were there then, and Chuck was super active, slightly nutty, and really lively, I may have had something to do with that.
God, I love early Pizza Time Theater thanks for making this video! I'm still watching it but I can already tell this one is great!
