I got 96 out of a "G" reg RS once ...think it was a bit ungoverned ...pissed passed a Volvo from South Yorks on the way to the same shout...The Rapier (We had an "L" reg) was the best Engine I ever drove the mark 1 was awesome ! ....31 years no moving traffic violations... I miss the job ..but not the bullshit !
Looks like the old Shelvoke SPV/ Pilcher Greene rescue tender at the end of the clip - UTW423W. I remember one of the other two UTW421W being at Colchester until 1995.
Nice one. I used to live just outside where the RTC was. Harlow hasn't really changed a lot and I think I know one of the crew. He is my godfather or "aunty Paul" as we know him. How a bod with loads of scrambled egg on his hat at Chelmsford. Any more from Harlow?
@fireboy1203 I think it depends on what model of Dennis RS they were. Some of the Dennis RS's in Essex had the 10.5 litre Perkins 640 V8. There were some with the lesser powered 8.8 litre Perkins 540's which may have lacked grunt.
Scania are rubbish poor car and even worse handling and ride, they may have more power but that aint everything and to be honest Scania are junk no where near as reliable as these
@@YelpBullhorn According to the firefighters who were around in the days of the Dennis RS and are still serving members of the fire service, they ALL say, we'd have the RS back any day. The Scania's are crap.
LOVE THE TWO TONES, THE CREWS DIALOGUE AND THE SOUND OF THE ENGINE!
Two tone sirens, Perkins v8 engine, revolving blue lights just how fire appliances should be. None of the the yelps of these modern ones!
A Harlow boy travelled those roads many a time👍👍
The engine noise! Takes me back, I'm driving a Dennis - full throttle or no throttle, there was little in between!
Awesome nostalgia. And that Perkins V8!

I remember the rapier some machine
Perky v8 at full chat, almost brings a tear to my eye
Reminds me of my dad riding in the back of Dennis rs for Devon fire brigade plus Devon fire and rescue service 30 years has a retained fireman
Yes I drove an RS back in the ninety's for Devon fire and rescue service this video brings it all back.
Cant beat the sound of a real Fire Appliance and with two tones aswel.
Listen to the Perkins V8 on that!

Do 80 with ease.
I had to back off at 80 with mine, even though she was still pulling away.

Grew up there, emigrated to Canada in 92, still go back when ever I can, loads of great friends still there👍
Can you upload more footage like this mate
how come they are racing to an RTC shouldn't they just be working together and helping eachother to get to the scene and also on scene?
@dredgrift Couldn't agree more. Beautiful sounds.

The Perkins 540 engines had a turbo which kept failing under pressure. The 640 is naturally aspirated and therefore alleviated that issue.
good work crew :)
What Dennis is this?
Dennis RS rescue pump with a Perkins 640 V8 diesel engine.
sounds like the old girls running outa get up n go
Yeah they were so underpowered when fully laden. Thank goodness for the new Scanias lol. Good video though.

Mr Townsend.... You are the only person EVER to say that! Wrong way round mate.

You don't know what you are talking about.
