When I was a kid I had a Welcome Back Kotter lunch box.I would come home every day and watch the show.
A kid in my junior high class based his whole personality on Boom Boom Washington. I can still hear him saying "hi there." It was 1979, I think.

The Barbarino song and dance and the "Hi there, Boom Boom was always my favorites. I love when you ask Freddie what's the "Boom Boom" for then he breaks out with his impersonation of it in a musical instrument. I love it.😂😂😂

I guess because it reminds me of that time. Being in high school and all those things I miss. Like my parents for instance and my sisters.
Everything John Travolta touched during that time, turned to gold. Carrie, The Boy in the Plastic Bubble, Saturday Night Fever (which I actually couldn't see because I was way too young at the time), Grease, and a little later, Blow Out. And, to think, it mainly started with this sitcom.
Am looking for Vinnie doing, "What?, Who? Where? When?" That was definitely one of his trademarks as much as Arnold's hand raising and laugh.
Can't forget Epsteins fake notes signed Epsteins Mother and Washington's catch phase HI There 😊 ☺️ Welcome back Kotter was one of the best shows ever. Never be another show like it

I felt bad for Marcia Strassman. The writers didn’t give her character enough to do. I know that the Sweathogs were central to the story and audience favorites. The writers probably just wanted Kotter to be a married man.
Once upon a time when I was a kid, Welcome Back Kotter was on at 2:30 on WGN and the Cubs game started at 1:20. When the Mets were in town it started raining cats and dogs. They called a rain delay and Roger McDowell was sliding around on the tarp. I always thought that God made it rain because he didn't want us to fight each other, so we can play. Kotter came on during the rain delay, and we all lived happily ever after.

Bobby Heyges came from my (rather small) home town. I knew his sister Beth from school, and I saw him around from time to time. Once he was painting the railing on his parents’ stoop-right at the height of the show’s popularity. Just painting the railing like any other grown son. RIP😢

Welcome Back Kotter is one of the strangest shows to ever appear on television horrible acting strange characters it's like they were just winging it however something about it is endearing I still watch it today and have no idea why.

Even my grandkids dont like those tagalog tv shows!!! They too are fans of the famous John Travolta... Who would want to watch and listen to " bakla and squatter lingo " but the squatters themselves and tsimays, muchacha, etc fans of showtime, asap, voltes 5, etc

I couldn't stand school setting tv shows.. head of the class, saved by the bell, welcome back cotter.
The biggest issue with school shows, especially high school shows, it kind of sets a finite timeline for your characters. so like Saved by the bell, the "cast" has to graduate at some point, which basically becomes the jump-the-shark moment for the show.
Was this supposed to be high school? Why do they all look like they are in their 40s?
Yeah. High schoolers but you will find many “high schoolers” in movies and tv are not. Cast of Grease was even older than these guys.

Studios tend to hire people over 18 to avoid having to set aside 3 hours everyday for kids to be tutored in a classroom setting. They also don’t have to deal with the actors’ parents.
The guy playing Beau De La Barre was 27-28 coz they wanted a man southern women would find hot, they didn't want to cast a real teenager.
@@aboutanything3456You're right about that! Look at Stockard Channing, who was well into her thirties when Grease was released. But, I didn't care about that. I just mainly wanted to see John Travolta and Olivia Newton John and listen to that good music. In the end, I liked the whole main cast.
